ridgemont high. one of the biggest school's in southern arizona. the school is home to around 4,000 students, give or take a few, and has been known for their absolutely incredible magnet program, arts and stem courses, and for having an average grade of B's and up. it's a pretty welcoming place. until it starts getting a little weird.

on the television, in the newspapers, online, reports of a strange viral infection has been seen around the united states. the center of disease control says they have it under control, but they really don't. prison camps around the states are established to quarantine those who have contracted the virus. what the center doesn't let people know, is that the virus is overruled by dangerous prions that are spreading quickly and have absolutely no cure whatsoever.

now, it's a monday - fuckin' hate mondays - and it's pretty much as normal as it usually is. until there's screams, more and more, and you're forced under lockdown. you're stuck in your classroom, unknowing of what's going on, until, two days later of no sleep, food, and minimal water, you're allowed out of your classroom.

terror seizes your mind and you, plus your classmates are frozen in fear. torn open bodies are scattered amongst the halls; blood is all over the walls. men in uniform are decapitated, still clutching their guns. you look down the hall to see another class is starting to come out of hiding too. some military men, holding big m16s, are leading out students, some scanning the area. the halls you walked around daily, the ones where you giggled with your friends or scowled at other students at, are brought to ruin. the outside, where everyone ate lunch and hung out, is a warzone, left bloodied with bodies and lined with dusty squad cars.

the virus spread so fast, and caused quarantined patients to revolt. they began, what is it - oh, eating people. biting people. no one could control it. they infiltrated ridgemont, killed more than 3,000 students (or, perhaps, some students were saved), and now you, plus some students and staff, are left, trapped, in this hell hole. now, it's up to you, your mates and peers, to try and establish civilization, and try not to get yourself killed.

— there's absolutely no need for reservations. there's infinite amounts of spots and no specific roles. the only specific role available is the leader - and they are not allowed to be reserved.
— This is strictly semi-advanced and above - so you know what that means !! at least two or three paragraphs with five or so sentences, good grammar and spelling, etc. Low muse or being restricted to mobile is excusable, and don't worry about having to write like seven paragraphs each post. But just try to keep it up a few paras !
— Look, no one is perfect. Not everyone has this background of hunting, being able to fight, also know how to treat wounds and illnesses, and survive a disaster. Not everyone is tough as nails. Not everyone is a savior. You're welcome to have characters that have some sort of background that might add on skills, but at the same time, your characters can't be all knowing gods. They MUST have weaknesses and MUST be able to learn from others. They can't get every single shot or anything. So, please be thoughtful on making beauty queens.
— ages range from 14 and up ! your character can be hella young or hella old, so it's up to you. Plenty of teachers and staff survived, too! Just please don't use a 30 something year old character to play a 18 year old, unless you can find images of them being younger.
— Face claims are required, so no random kids from the internet and mismatched images i'm hella picky. Also, make sure they're diverse ! there's so many underused faces out there that could be used. If you need suggestions, let me know !
— character diversity is a MUST. i hate to see the same cut copies over and over again - it's annoying, and leaves little to no room for creativity. if you've been to school, you'll see your average kids, a couple of nerds, the punks sometimes; keep that in mind when creating your character.
— there's no specific roles. think about the walking dead; rick grimes kind of became leader without meaning to, but doesn't really have extreme power over his group. everyone divides labor, by the leader's orders. so there won't be designated medics or hunters - it depends on everyone's skills.
— so, obviously, there's going to be loads of violence and gore. Swearing is hella okay with me, and it doesn't need to be censored if you don't want to.
— This is a pretty open rp, so it's built strictly off side plots and the creativity of each member. Always shoot me some ideas to keep the roleplay running and alive. Work together, build relationships, drama, so forth. Just go for it!

THE LEADER: the leader is a responsible, mature member of the group who divides labor and assigns work to those in his group. He has a few members he trusts to help monitor the group, and often consults them for advice. this spot is NOT reservable. any gender. any age. open.

CLIMATE: It's pretty dry and hot, and also was said to be the sunniest state in, like, the world. It can get pretty nasty during the monsoon season, lightning storms and floods and all that. During July, the record high is around 110 degrees, while the record low in January is around 15 degrees.

SUPPLIES AND SUSTENANCE: The group often go on scouting missions to loot nearby places or even go to the nearby city. The places that had high concentrated population still are littered with bodies, a majority of those bodies having backpacks or cars full of supplies as they tried to get away or save themselves.

PREY: the school is located in the middle of the city, so there's not much to hunt. However, there's birds - pigeons, sparrows, so forth -, squirrels, mice, dogs, cats, lizards and so forth. You can eat most of them, but it's highly recommended that you gut 'em out and check them for any disease. there's a university campus nearby, so there's abandoned stores to loot, too.

WEAPONS: Melee weapons are highly preferred since they do not make much noise and do not draw attention from biters. So, stick to weapons such as axes, baseball bats, knives, and so forth. Loud weapons like everyday guns are highly discouraged. Guns and grenades might be stockpiled in case of emergency and are only given to people who have prior knowledge with them.

TRANSPORTATION: Sometimes they're able to find working cars and drive them back. Cars and trucks, as well as some buses found around the area, are usually only used when they are traveling with multiple people and a great distance. They usually travel by foot, though.

BITERS: the group refers to them as anything from biters to walkers. They're the infected ones who eat anything with meat on it. they are violent, aggressive, but incredibly stupid. some of them are fast. by no means should a biter be touched without protection.

THE VIRUS: The virus begins by any contact of bodily fluids. The most common way is by bite, since infected saliva is transferred into the victim's blood stream. However, often simply touching their blood can actually cause some infection. This can usually be fought, but many do not fight it off and end up developing the virus completely. The Infected often go for the neck or wrists, since they are often most vulnerable and have some pretty major veins and capillaries. If lucky, the infected will go directly for the heart of jugular vein. Once bitten at the jugular vein, the victim will immediately die which provides a meal for the infected.

The first signs of infections in adults include heightened sense of smell, craving of meat, immediate infection of the site where bitten and sudden mood swings. Some victims have experienced whitening of both the pupil and iris, often referred to as Seer Syndrome. The amount of time it takes to progress is determined on how well the victim's immune system is or how healthy they are. Once progressing, the victim will begin to get hostile toward both people and animals, their breathing will become labored, a sudden and unexpected loss of appetite, as well as rotting and smelling of flesh. The final stages before completely turning is vomiting, even more hostility toward other living creatures, inability to sleep (severe insomnia) and constant need for meat products.
Signs in children include immediate Seer Syndrome, vomiting, excessive mucus discharge and the inability to breath. Children usually develop the infection faster, the reason being unknown.

The only way of killing one of the infected is by a direct shot to the heart, jugular vein or in the head. Even so, some are stronger than others and can take quite a hit. If possible, beheading is highly recommended. Many are fast, believe it or not, and possess intense strength.
Since many were alive prior to developing the infection, they are still pretty intelligent and can often perform regular human things such as opening doors, going up stairs, and stuff like that. Depending on how long they've been infected, they will still have the memory of a loved one and may or may not attack.

NAME MEANING: Gunner really is bland, in fact. It simply means "battle strong" or alternatively "battle born", even possibly "battle worthy". It has a few meanings that trace back from Swedish origins that generally mean something about battles and being a warrior. That's basically it.
NAME ORIGINATION: The origination of Gunner is Swedish and American -there's not a particular origination that has been traced back into history. Her full name is from her grandfather who was named Gunner since his parents wanted him to literally grow up to be in the military. Her father was named after him, and now Gunner is next in line.
NICKNAMES: "Depends who's asking," The female responds, a hint of disinterest laced into her tone. Her arms cross over her chest while she thinks long and hard, but seems to come to no 'eureka!' moments. "Meh, I've got nothing. Some might call me Guns, but it's just Gunner to you." Despite her short answer, she does not mention the fact that some often times call her Brightside, due to her rather positive view on things.
PET NAMES: Gunner really doesn't have any and doesn't feel comfortable with nicknames or pet names. even if she doesn't like to say it or make a big deal about it, she really isn't a fan of pet names or nicknames. But if she really likes it, finds it creative and not as annoying as others, she might adopt it full time.

RANK: Gunner was originally a student of Ridgemont - a freshman, about ready to promote to a sophomore. Despite being mildly popular - she knew a lot of people in Ridgemont - she never got involved in sports or clubs, even more so other social events. She did plan on joining the girls' wrestling team once it got put together, but after things went to shit, so did her hopes. Gunner is like a pair of dice - you never know what side you'll get no matter what. Gunner had been raised by many brave and courageous people, but also some who are very cowardly and dishonorable. Some may find traits from both sides to shine in her personality. She grew up around five older brothers and pretty much acted like one - she hardly ever wore makeup, went lizard catching, loved getting knee deep in mud and wrestled with the other boys, and found herself hanging around a lot of other boys growing up. She's basically a huge tomboy. Some may find her extremely selfless and kind, but also aggressive at times and sometimes short tempered. again, she's similar to a pair of dice - the side depends on how much she's shaken up and interacted with.

smart and wise — she's quite intelligent. she's often able to figure out tough equations or problems, and is often seen studying everything. she's usually with her nose in a book, learning about strange things or trying to understand something. she's really just a walking encyclopedia or something; she's just really knowledgeable. add on being a wise raven (she says ravens, since ravens are actually the most intelligent, contrary to the belief of owls being the most intelligent and the wisest), and she's basically your mr. rogers. creative and artistic — gunner is also extremely creative. she loves drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, whatever medium you can think of. she's usually seen with her hands stained with paint or ink, and is usually found doing something artsy. she's often sketching, considering she brings a sketchbook everywhere she goes. she's thoughtful and sees everything with an artistic eye. the sky isn't just blue to her; it's a "blanket of cyan that reflects our world. oh, and some cute li'l fluffy things flying across the sky". birds don't just sing, they "speak of their feelings of often being trapped and seen as mere object, they must express themselves in someway!". since she often tends to analyze everything, she's extremely observant. she can tell by the calluses on your fingers that you play guitar. she can tell that you were making pie just by the scent on your shirt. safe to say, she takes a lot of time to recognize little unique details in people.
kind and caring — gunner is usually the shoulder to cry on, or is usually out to just give hugs to anyone. gunner is notorious for often handing out bundles of flowers to cheer someone up, or making hand made presents as a congratulation. she's just a big fluff ball, really, and is just there to help anyone.
optimistic and happy by default — gunner is generally extremely happy and enthusiastic. she's basically just a ray of sunshine. she goes around and tries to make everyone's day better. she strongly believes everyone has some good in them, unless it is shown otherwise. she has a very optimistic outlook on the world, and is relatively excited to see how the world progresses. she always looks on the bright side, and it's rare she thinks of the bad sides of people or situations. Gunner could be going through the worst of times but could still be smiling no matter what.
tomboyish — Gunner grew up around five brothers and lived on a ranch for quite a while. Do the math. Gunner has always been identified as one of the boys. She often hung around with her brothers and their friends and found herself getting along better with boys rather than girls. Skateboarding and playing football is more of her thing. Short hair cuts? Yes please. Her style might also go along the lines of being a tomboy.
courageous and brave — she believes courage is not being fearless, but being able to face your fears. she's able to overcome barriers, but can get a bit skittish and anxious along the way.however, she's willing to look danger in the face and tell it to screw off, even if she's weak at the knees with sweat running down her face. while she does fear many things, she is often able to overcome them. while she may not rid of the fear in whole, she's at least able to overlook it in some ways and continue on her way.

the down sides — despite all these favorable traits, gunner is constantly battling herself. she feels like she has to make people happy, and she can't do that by being her own person. she tries her best to change herself to seem somewhat likable, and is often beating herself up for one small thing. she's very harsh on herself and tends to look at herself negatively. unfortunately, gunner inherited much of her father's side of the bad traits. Bauer folks always had an odd way of showing affection (if they displayed any), and are extremely stubborn and have a nature of wanting to show that they are likable, which ends up with them being slightly unlikable.

impulsive and reckless — Gunner tends to act completely by impulse. Many times, she will not give a lot of fore thought into her actions. While, sometimes, she might be a bit of a look before you leap type of person, she's actually sort of like well, you only live once so I might as fucking well. Depending who she's in front of, she'll jump into something just to prove something or just because, well, she can.
shameless — While this may not be too much of a negative trait, it's definitely one of her most dominate traits. Long story short, gunner gives zero fucks. If she wants to, she'll do something that could be completely embarrassing but she would do it just because she can. It sort of goes with her being impulsive and reckless. She could even get undressed in front of someone for whatever reason and not be the slightest bit shy about it.
aggressive and violent — Gunner is rather violent and angry quite all the time. She may hide it well at first, but with little provocation, she can give anyone a side hook to the jaw and lay it on them. Due to her loyal-by-nature upbringing, Gunner won't stand for anyone, even strangers, talking sh-t about her family. If you do try to use her family as an insult, even her shitty mom, she'll most likely punch you right in the face. getting on her bad side is a dangerous game and is pretty much recommended you do not attempt to see how angry she gets.
obstinate and tenacious — gunner is a generally easy going person, but once she has her mind set on something, she probably will not let anyone sway her determination. she's often guilty of pressing on, even if others insist she doesn't. while she has the brains to know when to stop or when something isn't going to work out, she's just very determined and is willing to elbow her way to something if she has to.
quiet and reserved — while she may not seem like it, she is usually one to keep to herself and usually doesn't voice her opinions. it's rare she'll speak out on her own behalf. most of the time, she does not contribute her own ideas until it's too late. she tends to panic when she's about to speak, and usually ends up screwing up; thus why she tries to keep to herself.
distrusting and doubting — due to frequently becoming attached to people and them leaving, gunner has a bit of her own trust issues. before, it was rather easy for her to cling on to someone, but now she is a whole other person. it's hard for her to believe people and wouldn't trust anyone. gunner can't bear to be betrayed again, so she puts up a guard that distances herself from people. Gunner doesn't like to get too close to people and even seems rather aloof. She tends to avoid making friends and sometimes tries to walk away or keep things at a certain distance - emotionally - to make sure she doesn't get attached.
nervous and fidgety — it's rare that gunner isn't tapping her foot, wringing her hands or twittling her thumbs. she's usually nervous, even when she shouldn't be. however, anxious would be a better word. she tends to worry easily and cares for people too much. she'll worry herself sick sometimes. she can keep cool under certain pressuring circumstances, but otherwise she is usually a anxious wreck.
secretive and trustworthy — gunner tends to keep her feelings and thoughts to herself, but is quite skilled in keeping secrets. this has upsides and downsides, however. she usually says "cross my heart, stick a thousand needles in my eye," and usually keeps to that.
concealed — Not only is Gunner very talented in keeping a secret, but she's also very talented in hiding her feelings behind a deceptive front. Gunner will hardly ever share her feelings with anyone, even the handful of people she holds dearly close to her. No one really knows what goes on inside her head, which can be a cause of why she's easily angered and short tempered. If inquired about her feelings, she'll mostly come up with a cryptic answer and try to avoid telling the truth about her feelings. Sometimes, she bottles up her emotions and feelings so much she'll actually have a massive breakdown.
contradictory and antithetical — gunner has the habit of often going against her very own words. she'll give advice that she won't follow, and is usually seen going against herself. she tends to contradict herself in several ways that's honestly hard to explain.
