    "Argh!"
The roar of pain burst out from the depths of the forest, the echoing of gun shots dotting around from the same area. The unmistakable stench of humans was carried along on the frosty breeze back towards the asylum. A few minutes passed before all fell silent again.

The crunching of boots crossing crisp snow soon broke the tense air as the humans closed in on their quarry, confused words passing from one to the other as they examined the oddly coloured lion. Prodding the corpse with a gun they soon relaxed as they became content that the lion was indeed deceased. Working together they dragged the body away as they exited the territory, leaving only blood behind as evidence of what had happened.

    Briareos had been killed.

    ---

    StarClan.

"Hm...? Huh? N-no! Not back here! I'm not ready!"
Briareos recognised the starry fields in an instant, a sickening feeling twisting in his gut as he frantically looked around himself. How could this have happened?! And why had the humans come in the first place? It was just like back in the old days when the humans used to set their dogs on the clan in an attempt to massacre them all.

"Lost another life it seems, and you certainly won't be going back to that body of yours either."
The raspy voice came from a black cat who had an almost perfect white diamond shape over his shoulders. The friendly gaze however eased Briareos and he found comfort seeing the old tom after such a long time.

"I thought you had been lost to us, Omenstar. I haven't seen you in such a long time. Where did you go?"
Curiosity prickled Briareos' mind during that moment as he looked the former RedMoonClan leader up and down.
"I was out walking the dreams of the new generations, such fascinating beasts they've become. And to think I used to think having a hare being our medicine cat was as bizarre as they came, but it seems that our world has changed."
He reminisced but it brought him a pang of grief as well. The old days were long gone, the old enemies of RiddleClan now just tales for kits, no one probably even remembered the threat of Chaos of the Stars or how LuminousClan nearly destroyed them all.

"Grim, I will send you back, but... this is your last life. If you perish again you won't be able to return to the world of the living. Do you understand?"
The warning struck Briareos like a sledgehammer, his features becoming pale. So this was it... his final life? It had truly filtered down to this moment. Omenstar gave him a moment before he cat him a wicked smirk.
"Your final life however deserves a spectacular body however, I think I have one in mind that you will quite like, my old friend. Now go, you'll wake up in the courtyard. Take your time adjusting to your final form."

    "Thank you, Omenstar. Thank you."

    ---

    "Ngh...."
He was cold and stiff, his mind and body still not yet fully synchronised. Lifting his head he found himself instinctively trying to crawl towards the nearest patch of sunlight. He needed its warmth. He was so cold!
    "H-help... me..."

It was the only way to survive in the north, being constantly alert--but more and more she was finding that that was not the case among the clans.
The gyrfalcon swooped in, passing right by the pools of blood, intent on first following the humans. Up north, there were few, and even fewer had the bright, dangerous weapons. But she had heard enough of them to recognize the sound of gunfire: It wasn't easy to forget, after all. Ace caught up right as they were leaving the territory, flying high just in case they aimed for her as well.
She peered down, a gasp escaping her as soon as she realized what they were carrying. Briareos's broken body, definitively dead. Ace let out a loud, piercing cry and wheeled back towards camp, fear and confusion speeding her flight. What the hell had happened? She had thought they were safe here, calm and content in their world--it had never occurred to her that anything like this might happen. There was no hope of recovering the Primus's body for a proper burial, so the only thing to do was tell everyone else, and warn them that there humans in the area.
But in the courtyard, yet another surprise met her. Some sort of creature, one that either she had never seen before or was too distraught to recognize the species, was there, struggling to move. Ace paused, hesitating for long moments, then dropped from the skies to land next to it. "What do you need?" she muttered, in response to the animal's feeble cries for help. No noticeable injuries, so at least that was good. As yet she didn't know that this was Briareos--of course not, as she had none of the special powers like just about every other clan member. But the Primus's death could be reported later; right now it was important to try and save this one's life.
