But, not any normal, mortal witches, these were the brutal, obidient and disiplined kind, broken into two clans and broken into even smaller covens in each.
The first were the Crochan Witches, peaceful and indescribably beautiful, bred from Valg and Fae peoples, the Crochan's take after their Fae ancestors. Crochan's once ruled over the Western Wastes, where all the witches were held, often reffered to as the Witch Kingdoms. Five hundred years ago, when the Crochan Witches fought against the Ironteeth, their dying Queen banished all Ironteeth Witches from the Western Wastes, wishing all of their crops to die and the waters to be muddy. Ever since then, the Crochan Witches have fled from the Ironteeth Witches, refugee alike, though easily identified from the billowing, blood-red cloaks they obtain after their first bleeding.
Then the Ironteeth Witches, taking after the Valg rather than the Fae in their blood, are split into three major clans: The Blackbeaks; The Bluebloods; and The Yellowlegs. The Ironteeth witches have immense beauty like the Crochan Witches, though they have retractable, iron teeth and nails along with an additional set of human teeth and nails. Each clan is a conglomeration of several covens. A High Witch or a Matron rules over each clan and a coven of her own, then followed by the Heir of the clan, who will become the Matron of the clan once the Matron dies. The Heir is often a relative of the Matron and her coven is second, only underneath the Matron's coven. The Second of the Heir is next in rank, then followed by the rest of the Heir's coven.
The Blueblood's are often reffered to as 'religious fanatics', as they are in touch with a diety named the Threefaced Goddess, whose aspects are Maiden, Mother and Crone. Bluebloods are considered reclusive due to the immense amount of rituals that they perfom and will only drink specific human blood; like one of a virgin's. The Blueblood Matron has to wear a band of iron, barbed stars across her forehead to keep her anchored to this world, due to their such strong ties with magic and the Threefaced Goddess.
The Yellowlegs clan, whilst less things are known of them, compared to the two other clans, the Yellowlegs seem to have less restraint on the amount of violence that they produce. Unlike the other two clans, the Yellowlegs aren't as picky as to which kind of human's blood they drink. Yellowlegs have saffron coloured ankles, which explain the name and always have their iron teeth and nails on show.
And finally, the Blackbeak clan, they honor obiedience, discipline and brutality over anything. A prized trait of the Blackbeak clan are golden eyes, to be born with pure gold eyes is to be considered the most desirable, and to be born with none is considered a great shame. Though there is not much information about the Blackbeak clan, there is one coven in particular that every witch to of ever lived in Erilea would know of, the Thirteen.
The Thirteen are the most elite of all Backbeak Clans. Being the Heir's coven, these thirteen witches are highly skilled and well trained, only the best can be accepted in and if not good enough, will be put down publicly. This is where our story begins.
