  • Puddle gazed at the she-cat affectionately for a moment, before crouching. "Hold that thought." She meowed quietly, her eyes wide as she padded forward gently. She strained her ears to hear the scratching of the mouse's paws. The small creature was definitely inside its den, and had likely heard her. The scratching sounded vigorous and rushed, and Puddle realized it must've been trying to escape from the escape route all mice dens had. The prey-hunter trotted forward at the sight of the small brown creature emerging from the ground, and her claws pierced into its soft flesh as she leaped upon it. With the weight of Puddle upon it combined with her thorn-sharp claws, the mouse nearly instantly. The she-cat picked the mouse up in her jaws, and trotted back over to Dahlia.

  • Puddle's ears perked up at Dahlia's praise. Her tail wrapped around her paws as she sat the mouse down. "Really?" The she-cat asked, her eyes glistening with pride. "I don't think I'm really all that great at hunting, but I love to hunt." She mewed. Her pale eyes fell down to the mouse at her paws, and she remembered the other two she had buried in the meadow.

  • Puddle's tail flicked as an idea came to her. "Would you like to come with me to retrieve the other mice I've buried?" She asked. "They're in the meadow near the border. There's always prey in the area, and I'm sure we could find something on the way there. Maybe I could show you a thing or two about hunting?" The she-cat suggested. Her heart raced at the thought of teaching Dahlia how to hunt, and she had to restrain herself from kneading the ground in anticipation.

  • Amusement filled her eyes and her whiskers twitched. A single drop of rain fell upon Puddle's head, and her ears flattened. "Looks like we'll have to be quick. I hope we can find prey, with rain coming." She meowed, motioning with her tail for Dahlia to follow after her. The prey-hunter knew the location of her hunts well, but she feared her suggestion to teach the young she-cat to hunt would be quenched by the rain. She didn't know much of prey lurking outside of their dens during the rain.

  • Puddle smiled warmly at the reply. She was always interested in the minds of the cats and their preferences, but something had tugged at her heartstrings at the other she-cat's reply. By the time she reached the meadow, the rain fell lightly upon her fur. She resisted the urge to shake it off. The prey-hunter had difficulty in resisting another instinct - admiring the view before her. Moonlight lit the flowers and the pale sheen in gave them left her nearly breathless. Puddle supposed it wouldn't be a waste if she admired it a moment longer, and turned her head to Dahlia. "Isn't it beautiful? This is my favorite place."

  • The she-cat took in the view for a moment longer, before gesturing with her tail for Dahlia to follow her again. She padded into the meadow, sniffing around for where she had left the prey. Puddle had hidden the hole of prey underneath flowers with heavy petals, a precaution she rarely took. She didn't think the grey clouds above them would've given way so soon. Her luck seemed endless as the faint and damp scent of the prey filled her nose. "It's over here." Puddle meowed as she moved aside a flower with one of her paws. The dirt that had covered and masked its scent was only slightly wet, and not enough to form the slick mud that the she-cat hated.

The glanced upwards towards the sky and let the stars reflect off of her big eyes. "I like being outside the cave," she commented absently. Dahlia loved looking up at the night sky, so much. It was even better having someone else with her when she did. [/fancypost]

  • Puddle followed her gaze for a moment. The small twinkling lights above her were a comfort she often saw as a prey-hunter, and she hadn't even realized that it was unlikely a cave-guard could often see such a sight. Her mother had loved the stars nearly as much as the she-cat that stood by Puddle now, and Puddle wondered if that is why she ventured out that night, so close to kitting. Perhaps she had intended for her kits to have names of stars. She didn't often like to think of her siblings, as they rested with the Tribe of Endless Hunting now, but she reflected that their names also included stars. She flicked her tail, wishing she could ask her mother why.

Her attention turned back to Dahlia, and she meowed quietly, "It's a shame you don't get to see this more." Puddle would have to remember to talk to the Stoneteller, to see about the she-cat beside her. Perhaps her fate wasn't to be a cave-guard.

"I wonder what it's like to live without rules or to just run without obligations." She exhales and looks to Puddle. "The cave can be so gloomy..."[/fancypost]

  • Puddle nodded, vague memories of her own wonders of the clans flashing back into her mind. "I know what you mean." The she-cat responded. She wondered, if only briefly, if she should speak of her own doubts and curiosity. She internally mustered up the courage, and with a quick hope that no one else was listening, she meowed, "I have wondered on many occasions of what life outside of the tribe is like." Guilt was heavy in her words and clouded her eyes.
