  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 450px][justify][size=10][font=georgia]Sweetophelia was returning to Dragonstone, a home she had not seen in many weeks. The majority of her time, the young woman chose to spend in BlizzardClan where she had many friends in Riddlersgame, Enigmaticsoul, Tama, Redlipstick, and the like. It stood in stark contrast to her opinion of Westeros, a place she only remained tied to out of her devotion to Jaehaerys - previously as his niece and now as his mother. If her son should forsake his loyalty to the kingdoms then Sweetophelia would likely soon follow suit for she had no real warm feelings for her birthplace. Her mother and half-sister might have ruled as sovereigns once, but that time had ended with the treachery of Jocelyn Baratheon - someone whom she would never name as her sister, despite the fact that Eurydice had adopted her into the family long ago.

Sweetophelia hadn't known Lorina well, nor did she really care of the deposed queen's supposed crimes against the realm but she still held out on the belief that the Iron Throne should have passed onto a Targaryen - if not Lorina's heir then onto another, more suitable Targaryen. Then there had been many possibilities but now the only Targaryen Sweetophelia cared to support was her own son - not only for the fact that he was her son but because she neither knew nor trusted the other members of the Targaryen house who were but distant strangers to her. But the fact of the matter was that she had not returned to Dragonstone to see them. No, she had came to seek out Jaehaerys.

Stepping quietly from the courtyard, Sweetophelia entered the forbidding castle, her dark maroon dress sweeping behind her. There was much that needed to be discussed, and there was a large, pressing part of her that desired a chance for reconciliation with her son, considering how long ago it was when she had last addressed him as son, and he to her as his mother.

With the current war going on, he had to arrange and plan with commanders about how to best proceed with the siege and the Greyjoy problem. It appeared that the rebel's cause was prevailing over that of the Greyjoys and that was news Jaehaerys was pleased with. Despite the fact that it appeared the rebels were winning, it didn't mean that Jaehaerys had too much free time.

When he did have breaks, the Warden enjoyed taking walks through the citadel of Dragonstone, enjoying the cold salty air that blew over the Narrow Sea. It cleared his mind and the chill sharpened his wits, kept him alert and ready to deal with anything that came along the way.

He hadn't expected to bump into Sweetophelia. To be honest, he was happy about his mother's return, but the idea that she had left all those moons ago bothered him. Jaehaerys knew that he should not pry, but he couldn't help but wonder what reason she had for leaving. "Mother," the Warden offered cordially as he spotted her heading into the castle.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 450px][justify][size=10][font=georgia]"Jaehaerys," Sweetophelia responded quietly, her pale lilac eyes attentive as she looked over at the young man. Now that she was past her "Alysanne" stage or whatever you'd like to classify that, she no longer quite looked at the Warden of the South with the same admiration. Of course, she still cared for him, and in fact she was deeply proud and protective of him, but there was also a wariness to her as she regarded him. She wondered how he thought of her now. But she thought that she might be willing to suffer a negative opinion so long as he wasn't under the impression that Tsubodai was the ideal parent in comparison - even if she wasn't exactly pleased by her own conduct.

"How's your fiancée?" The fair-haired woman didn't quite know how to approach the topic of her own personal revelation and so Sweetophelia had decided to ask after Amare Darling. While she wasn't exactly impressed with the girl Jaehaerys had chosen after witnessing her apparent and quick show of love for her son - and in fact she wondered if no one else in BloodClan had been willing to offer themselves up to a political marriage - Sweetophelia didn't exactly feel comfortable sharing her opinion. Her son was grown now, and she didn't feel like much of a mother - even if she was desperate to learn whether or not her sons still retained any sort of familial affection for her.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; width: 480px; font: normal 16px times new roman; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify]Fiancée? He was pleased by the interest that Sweetophelia showed in that whole affair of him finding a wife. He had been the most eligible bachelor in Westeros for a long time, since he was promoted as knight some time ago. A long time ago. Of course, he'd received some sly offers from minor houses, but Jaehaerys had politely declined those--he knew that he was going to climb in rank and needed to make his marriage count for the greater good of Westeros. Plus, the fact that she was inquiring--it was matters of family.

The slight frost across his features thawed as he returned, "I haven't much from Amare, unfortunately. I plan on heading over there to check on the situation with her." Though he thought that it was a decent match, the fact that Amare had made a small political blunder and lost contact with him made him reconsider her as a candidate for marriage. "Any other suggestions to solve the situation of my unmarried status?" he asked, a small smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 450px][justify][size=10][font=georgia]While Sweetophelia would applaud her son for thinking with his heart rather than his heart or another organ lower on the body, neither was she completely comfortable with the idea that Jaehaerys was holding out on a strong political marriage. She had strayed from traditional Westerosi values, thanks in part to her childhood spent in BlizzardClan, and she preferred his happiness over a political advantage. But then again, Sweetophelia supposed that that was what mistresses were for. Bastards were common everywhere.

"I preferred her sister," she remarked plainly with a shrug, a slight smile creeping into the corner of her mouth. "But I'll treat Amare - or any other girl you choose to wed - with affection." At least outwardly. Sweetophelia wasn't inclined towards faking friendship or any other emotions but she could be practical. A monster mother-in-law was not what she had dreamt to be when she grew up. "If you're looking beyond BloodClan however, there are a few eligible bachelorettes in BlizzardClan." Though she imagined that if Jaehaerys chose to follow the trail, he would have to be willing to court the girl. BlizzardClanners seemed to be less ambitious and hard than BloodClanners - at least overtly.

"Amour Darling? Yes, she seems to be very capable, too," Jaehaerys agreed. He had been hoping to think that perhaps either of the possibly single BloodClan leaders would have taken his offer of marriage, but he had never broached the subject with them in fear of coming off too strongly. Political marriages were done to secure power, and the more power either individual had, the better. He couldn't help but smile at his mother's comment. Jae had heard somewhere that every mother loathed to see their son wed and go off with another woman.

At Sweetophelia's offer, Jaehaerys considered for a few seconds before adding, "I would be open to those from BlizzardClan, too. BloodClanners seemed lukewarm in throwing themselves at my feet." Though the BloodClanners seemed outwardly okay with the idea of arranged marriages, Jaehaerys supposed they were only veiling their dislike for what they thought to be a barbaric custom. To most people, marriage was of love, not politics.

But speaking of BloodClan, that reminded him--"Mother, did you know that old Lord Boreas is currently residing in BloodClan?" the Targaryen offered, a little bit excited with giving the news. After all, Boreas was a legend to him--Jaehaerys had always admired his great-grandsire for bringing the Targaryens back from the brink, just like he had done.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 450px][justify][size=10][font=georgia]The idea of Jaehaerys wedding the other BloodClan leader, Evangeline, would seem strange to Sweetophelia because she had been friendly with the other female back in the earlier days, when they were both rising through the ranks and Evangeline was besotted with Heartbreakkid. But that wasn't a really fair reservation, was it? To discount someone on the account of their age, especially considering her opposing view of Amour. Perhaps Sweetophelia was just reluctant to see her last son married off, although she did believe that she would be content if he would only be able to find someone like Amour Darling.

Her sister was a poor substitute. "I'll make sure to arrange a meeting should I find one to your liking." Her attention was quickly moved away from marriage however, when he mentioned the name, "Boreas". "He's calling himself by that name again?" she scoffed quietly, looking largely unimpressed by Jaehaerys' apparent admiration for his great-grandfather.

"Did he treat you with respect?" Sweetophelia had never met her ancestor but she had heard multiple accounts of him, of the cold way he treated his children left in Westeros - Eurydice, Neva, and Dragonpaw. "I'm surprised by his sudden change in attitude," she remarked. "After he left Westeros, he reverted back to his original name - Permafrost. He had dozens of other children living with him in ColouredClan but when his daughters - Neva and Dragonpaw - came to seek him out, they were turned away. He warned your grandmother to keep them away, and threatened Westeros as well." Sweetophelia didn't understand the true extent of her mother's loathing for him, but she understood enough to distrust him herself.

Jae dipped his head in thanks towards his mother at her generous offer. As a member of a different group, she had no incentive to do so, but they were family--the Targaryen felt happy that his mother was playing a more active role in his life.

At the next inquiry, he frowned slightly, wondering what his mother had against her grandfather. Jaehaerys had heard nothing off about Lord Boreas, outside of the fact that he had left Westeros and resumed his identity of Permafrost. "From what I've heard, he is going by Ambael or Permafrost," Jae offered cautiously. Admittedly, he was curious about Sweetophelia's dislike for Boreas, and his curiosity was soon rewarded when she explained it.

Jaehaerys frowned slightly at Sweetophelia's account. Abandoning his family members? It truly resonated with him in how Tsubodai treated him, leaving him to fend for himself in Westeros, but Jaehaerys was a reasonable person. Perhaps there was more to the story...hopefully, unless that was the truth. He merely gave a small nod. "He did not treat me with any disrespect."
