"Midnight, when you study, you have to do it on a real table if you want to concentrate."
He never called her any nicknames. The dragon always addressed her by her full name, whether or not she was actually in trouble. Stern, coarse, stubborn- always right, even if he was wrong.
Despite how much she actually ignored such advice as this, Mids never thought she'd actually be using it for once. The kitsune didn't actually think it would help- it never did. When it came to doing serious work, she quickly lost concentration, and it was probably why she needed lots of time and a lot of details to get work done.
As a pup, she'd been forced to study, and had endured lengthy lectures from her father often because she needed to know 'what is right from what is wrong.' And he said it just like that, too.

The kitsune sighed. On the table before her was an array of flashcards she had made for herself, all about herbs. She'd been tempted to tape the actual leaves on each, but that'd be a waste of herbs, and the cards wouldn't stack well. So naturally, she attempted to draw them, but the drawings were so mediocre that she had to include a written description as well.
Oh, she just wanted to get this overwith, but she knew that if she studied fast, she'd only be temporarily memorizing what was on the cards for the sake of freeing herself from this madness she had forced herself to stay in.
    Ten minutes.
    Twenty minutes.
    Thirty.
And she'd only gotten through about fifteen cards, which wasn't much compared to what she was supposed to know. She didn't even know how to use the herbs she was studying- just how to identify them.

Spinning around and leaning halfway out the window, she'd gaze at a couple cards in her paws with a miserable expression...
Until they slipped from her grip and fluttered down onto the snow below. Luckily, she was on the first floor of her house, but it wasn't like she could reach them, still.
"Ahhh. Ahhhhhhhhhhh." Her short legs waved after them as they fell. What a hopeless case she was.

Leave it up to Alfred to run into the person procrastinating, so he could be more of a distraction. Why not, right? Then again, from the looks of it, whatever this was just wasn't working. Maybe he could be of help, or at least take her mind of whatever torture she'd been forced to endure or something. Hey, it was an effort made.

Raising his head after speaking with the fallen cards in his mouth, having picked them up when he saw that her little legs weren't doing much, Alfred rubbed the back of his neck and offered a dorky grin behind the cards. He put them on the open window, sliding them over to give them back to their creator. They were a bit cold and slightly wet, but nothing that couldn't dry soon.

Now before anyone though that Alfred was just stalking Mids or something, he was totally innocent. He hadn't even shown up over here for Midnight, the reason he was where he was could be found around his neck. One of Cassius's snakes were comfortably wrapped around his neck and shoulders loosely, looking as if it was trying to snuggle into his fur. He'd found it freezing in the snow after looking for it for about an hour. No snake was dying on his watch, he was not prepared to go through seeing a piece Snake Lord's soul die with the snake. Insert long but loving sigh here.

[color=#FCDC3B]"Rest in peace, dear Midnight." Seriously. Studying sucked ass, and he didn't have to do it.

Papika couldn't help but become excited when she saw another of her species, bright blue eyes catching sight of the three-tailed vulpine through her open window. Even from her position in the distance the child could see her well enough to distinguish certain features as well the cards that just fell. However, before she could make it over in time to help Alfred had already beat her to it. As the canine picked them up she noticed those strange markings on the paper again, the little scribbly things that she would eventually come to know as letters. "Wait, I wanna see those!" the ginger-furred fox called out, reaching for the notes a bit too late. Instead of just waiting for one of them to respond the kitsune started backing up, putting what she believed was a decent amount of space between herself and the house in order to build up a decent running start. With a speedy leap she attempted to throw herself into the open window but depending on how high up it was would determine whether or not she'd make it.[/fancypost]

She was going to faint. Out of all times, Alfred had to appear now? She felt so childish, reacting to her little mishap the way she did, but at the same time, she loved every second of it. This was the sort of things only her imagination could fabricate... or all the typical chick-flick high school movies.
    MIDNIGHT, THAT'S GROSS.
"Oh, th-thanks," she'd yip with a sheepish chuckle, carefully shaking off some small bits of frost that had been clinging to them before putting them on the table behind her. She thought to say something to him, perhaps to make him linger so she'd have a reason to stare longer (which was GROSS, MIDNIGHT, LIKE, STOP), when a wild Paprika suddenly came pouncing onto her windowsill. Or at least partially. "Ah!" The older kitsune reached forward and tried to pull the rest of her in. "Y-You coulda just used the door," she joked as she did her best to reel in the orange girl. Was she that desperate to see her cards? Well, she supposed it was alright, even if it had been troublesome to go through the process of dragging her in. Even if she couldn't read, she could look at all the crude drawings of herbs that were on each card. At least she got to see Midnight's house, too. Oh! Speaking of which...
"And, uh, isn't it cold out there?" she'd ask Alfred. "Do you wanna... come inside?"
She could just pretend like this was her thanks to him for rescuing her flashcards.
