  • "I thought I was shy and quiet, but you take the cake." He tried desperately to get her to say something. "Oh yeah, I wrote down instructions on when to apply the cream." He handed her the paper and smiled. "What's your name?" He asked. "Mine is Kai."

  • She slowly took the paper from him. She hesitated before speaking in a soft tone. "Danielle.." She murmurs, sitting down on the floor, her face a bit pale and her eyes glassy. She watched him despite that.

  • "Well, Danielle are you hungry?" he asked. "I've got plenty of food since I'm the only one living here. Your welcome to stay for lunch or just until the rain stops." He sat on the ground across from her and asked "Why are we sitting on the ground when there is a perfectly good couch right there?"

  • "Didn't think I'd have the energy to move to the couch." Danielle says softly, staring at the ground. "And I'll stay only if you'll let me.." She whispered.

  • "Of course, I'm always alone so it would be a nice change of pace to have company over. So, Danielle tell me more about yourself while I go make us something to eat." He got up and walked into the kitchen which was connected to the living room. He dug through the fridge and started up the oven. He didn;t really know how to cook so he just put some chicken fingers and fries in a pan and threw that in the oven. He set the timer and walked back into the living room.

  • "What to do you want me to tell you?" She inquired, frowning at him as she made herself comfortable. She scanned the room they were in, her eyes wandering around a bit. She quickly turned her gaze back to him.

  • "Who do you live with, what do you want to do when you grow up, and why do you have all of those wounds on your body?" He seemed pushy but, he didn't want to send her back to any abuse that she might be facing.

  • "Some of the questions are none of your business." She said a little too harshly. "S-sorry.." She whispered, lowering her voice. She stared at the ground, going back to being silent, seemingly, she was afraid of what he would've said or done after she spoke like that.

  • "It is my business if something is happening to you and I don't do anything to stop it then I'm just as bad as the person abusing you." He might have shown a little too much emotion but he wasn't willing to let another person get mentally or physically abused.

  • Danielle looked at him. She then turned away. "You hardly even know me.. So why should I be of any of your concern.."

  • "I had a friend that I've known since I was seven years old. She was like a sister to me and as time went on I noticed bruises and cuts all over her body. I was to scared to do anything and one day she died. That changed my life and I made a promise to myself to never let that happen to anyone else. So please, let me know if something is happening," he begged.

  • Danielle huffed, sighing in defeat. "I don't want to talk about it.." She murmurs, refusing to look at him. She began to shake, and not because of how cold she was.

  • "Fine, you don't have to talk about it but I don't want you to go back to your house until I know that you're safe. Do you have a family member to stay with or a close friend?" he asked. It was unlike him to act so warmly to someone but she needed someone whether she wanted it or not.

  • She shook her head and she pulled her knees to her chest and buried her face in her knees.

  • Kai noticed that she was uncomfortable so he got up and brought her a glass of water. He gently placed it on the floor next to her and said "I'm only here to help. You can be yourself around me, I wouldn't do anything to hurt you so please trust me," he pleaded.

  • Danielle slowly raises her head and took a small sip of the water, although she didn't say anything. She sighs a bit.

  • "I can't tell what your thinking so please talk to me so I can better help you. I know this is tough on you but please trust that I will help you as much as I possibly can." Kai got up to go check on the food which was finally warmed up. He set the pan down on the stove and got out the plates. He then walked back to the living room and offered her his hand.

  • Danielle watched him for a long moment. She sighs and she eventually placed her hand in his. She frowns.

  • Kai gently pulled her up and led her to the kitchen table. Lunch will be ready in a few seconds so just sit tight for a bit. He headed towards the stove and grabbed a spatula and placed most of the food on one plate and the rest on the other. He then brought the food to the table and gave her the one with the most food on it. "I hope you like this," he smiled.

  • Danielle sat down and she stared at the food. "I-I haven't seen or eaten that much food in what feels like forever.." She whispered admittedly.
