Littlepaw was looking wistfully at the trees. He could remember Talonstar's voice ringing in his voice. He could remember a promise. A promise to teach him how to fly. He never really learned to, though. She died too sudden before the opportunity came. Now, he was a bird stranded on the ground with nothing else to do but crawl. It really bothered him, but he couldn't do anything about it, huh? The wind gently brushed against his gray fur before he hopped onto his paws. Learning to fly wasn't going to make him useful to the clan now, would it?

He had duties he needed to learn before he could be of any use! As an apprentice, he could do so much more! But, the little fella didn't really know how to hunt properly. The sky that the trees didn't cover was dim with silver pelt dancing in the sky. The stars glimmered with the low hanging moon. The apprentice couldn't sleep. His daydreams were keeping him up and alive. He looked around the den, seeing the other apprentices sleep peacefully. Should he go?

He felt a strong urge to go. Go outside and practice on hunting. He had been an apprentice for a couple of sunrises, but he still hadn't caught a thing. The thought fueled his longing to go outside. It was awfully dark, but he wasn't too bothered by it. With a gently push, he was on his paws and taking extra care to not step on any tails tonight. With a matter of heartbeats, he managed to slip out of the camp.

it was late out, yet thrushstar did not return to her den. as usual, she would watch her clanmates retreat to their nests for the night before climbing into her own. out the corner of her eye, she noticed a small gray figure exit camp. littlekit. her half-brother.

he'd only been an apprentice for a few sunrises, so the leader worried for his safety. she felt an unwanted urge to protect him, much like her desire to protect her full siblings. "where do you think you're going?" she questioned, easily catching up to him as her legs were much longer than his. her question sounded a lot more harsh then she intended it to.

Littlepaw thought he was alone with the success of sneaking out of camp. He was too busy thinking where to go next bat he didn't hear the soft steps of somebody following. Then there was a stern question as Thrushstar caught up with the apprentice. He stiffened.

"Err, oh hi Thrushstar!" he squeaked. He halted in his tracks and stared at his paws. "I, uh.." The apprentice was fumbling with his words. Why now? He couldn't say it. "I don't know," He was a pretty bad liar. What would Thrushstar say if he said he was just going to practice his crouch? His ears were pinned against his head, his paws shuffling nervously.

"you do realize that it isn't safe for young apprentices like you to be outside alone this late." she meowed sternly, flicking her tail in the direction of the night. thrushstar was being overprotective, but it had only been a few sunrises since her encounter with the badger den.

"next time, at least take someone with you." she added. it was clear the spotted tabby intended to follow littlepaw wherever he was planning to go.

His ears were flat against his head. His yellow gaze was filled with guilt. And to think that he wanted practice hunting outside? The idea of going outside late at night didn't even have an inkling of consequences. What if he was caught by a badger? Killed? The apprentice didn't even have the skill to hunt, let alone fight off badgers. His head hung low. "I'm sorry," he apologized heavily. The wind gently blew, ruffling the trees nearby.

He looked up. Was Thrushstar going to follow him? He looked around, feeling guilt fluttering inside his stomach. "I just wa-wanted to go out and hunt," he admitted through muddled words. He couldn't keep up the lie anymore. It just wasn't him. "But that kinda sucks, I guess," he murmured faintly. "I don't really know how to."

since littlepaw had just become an apprentice, it was no surprise he couldn't hunt yet. thrushstar supposed that not everyone was as talented as she when it came to hunting. the spotted tabby had taken after her mother; silverwing never missed a single piece of prey. finchfeather, her sister, was excellent as well. "want me to show you a few tricks to help?" the she-cat offered. it looked like his mentor wasn't doing as good of a job as she'd hoped.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border:0px; width: 500px;text-align:justify;]He shuffled his paws as he waited in heavy silence. Perhaps it was a dumb idea to ask, wasn't it? He opened his mouth to apologize, but Thrushstar had an offer. He peeked up notably with a little jump on his paws. "Really?" In the dim light, he had a barely noticeable smile. "I mean, only if you want to! That'd be so cool!" Then he could finally have this hunting jumbo jumbo under the hood and be useful for once! The thought was exciting. But then he stopped himself. "W-well, if I deserve it," he mumbled reluctantly with eyes on his paws. He did sneak out of camp at night, which seemed to have worried the leader. He felt guilty.

//this is so late i totally thought i replied to this sorry!!

thrushstar let out a light purr at her half-brother's excitement. "alright, let's see your hunter's crouch first." a good crouch was crucial to a hunter's success; without it one was doomed to fail. of course, littlepaw's would become better with continuous practice but she supposed she could point him in the right direction.

/ ey it's no problem! i would have forgotten if it were me

He notably perked up, shaking out his pelt before nodding eagerly. "Got it!" He was rather excited to get some master hunting tips. Especially from Thrushstar! It was certainly somebody he was quite happy being around with. With that in mind, he crouched. It was pretty sloppy. His stomach was probably mouse-lengths away from the ground with his paws tucked close to his chest. If anything, he looked like he was sticking his butt out for fun rather that hunting! It was certainly quite the silly sight to see.

thrushstar successfully held back a laugh at littlepaw's crouch. certainly, it was amusing, and less of a proper crouch then she'd hoped. "lower your stomach closer to the ground a bit, that'll help." the she-cat advised, slowly circling him to get a better examination of his stance. "also, keep your front paws ready to pounce."
