Maybe it was for the best that she had come back. The lands out there, beyond the safety of her clan, they were so cold and unforgiving. They had taken her and chewed her up and spit her out, made her more wary of strangers. Ah, not that she showed it now. She had been pretty much holed up in her room the entire time she had been here, except when she was out attending meetings or greeting joiners, and she had been lost in her thoughts most of the time.

It had started out when she went to go exploring beyond the safety of the tribe, because it had been the tribe of burning dreams back then. She had wandered into a loner’s territory. Things had been fine at first, but then he wanted her to stay and talk with her and keep him company. She had said no, because she had understood what the male had been implying. She had duties back home, and kids would just make everything worse.

Her room was dark, all the candles blown out or knocked over in her utter haste to get inside and lock the door, paranoia clawing at her chest and thoughts. It wanted out, the thing inside her wanted out and it was howling around inside her, clawing and trying to escape. No. Mintyswirl wouldn’t let it out, because she knew what would happen if she did. She just had to stay strong, she wouldn’t mess up anymore.

So the girl sat, huddled in her room for hours on end until finally, finally, the thing inside her won. Something inside mintyswirl snapped and her soul flickered for a moment, resisting the pull of the demon that had possessed it, but it had to give in - mint had already given in to the sugary sweet notes of surrender.

She had killed him in the end, when he tried to take advantage of her. He had been sorely mistaken if he thought he could beat her, It had been quite simple, an act of kindness to the wretched thing, really. He deserved the end she had given him by slicing off his head with her sword and then burning the rest of his body. She had kept his body as a trophy.

It was now in her room, a kind of macabre decoration, she guessed. Mintyswirl enjoyed it. It showed everyone how strong she really was. She should. . .she should go do it. The voice was whispering these thoughts into her head, telling her what to do and guiding her pawsteps as she made her way out of the asylum and into the woods. She had to find another victim, she would find one. Soon, the voice whispered. Soon. With the thing inside her controlling her, the girl made her way out of riddleclan territory.

In the end, she returned clean and smiling, her memory manipulated by the creature that had possessed her to think that she hadn’t just gutted three loners and burned their remains in a fire after dismembering them.

She thought she was normal, and as far as the creature inside her was concerned, everyone else would think so too. It was a completely normal day, and mintyswirl felt alive for once. Maybe it was for the best that she had come back.

He wouldn't have cared regardless—if it's not a clanmate, it can't do any harm, can it?

He almost ran into the water dog. "hey there, minty. What're you doing?"
