in the recent days, mossstep had committed suicide and winterpaw had disappeared. so, that meant the medicine cat position was now open, and despite littlekit not knowing much about what medicine cats did, she wanted the position. her main reason was simple: littlekit wanted to be important, like her mom, sparrowstar. that way, no cat could ever tell her to shut up and go back to the nursery again.

since littlekit had signed up to be in the competition for medicine cat apprentice, she thought it wouldn't hurt take a walk through the medicine den and familiarize herself with the job she was getting herself into. her clanmates couldn't possibly mind, as the den was now empty. after days of disuse, it was getting dusty, and littlekit coughed a little as she entered. wow, this den is pretty neat! she realized, staring at the stacks upon stacks of herbs. i wouldn't mind living here.

Since she had joined the Clan, she had pretty much forgotten about the injury. Perhaps she was too focused on everything else, or she didn't want to think about it. But it seemed that, suddenly, the injury was causing her to limp. Somecat had told her that she could go to the medicine cat den to get help, so she had gone.

However, she had only found a stale-aired den and... a kit. She stopped, and looked at the situation. She seemed to simply be a curious kit, exploring a place that she hadn't been before. "Don't be messing up any nests, or scattering any herbs." Dustclaw personally didn't care, but she had heard how the medicine cats were annoyed when their leaves were unorganized.

Lilyfang then skipped into the den to stand beside Littlekit. She knew that the kitten had signed up to be a medicine cat, just like she had. "Good luck," she whispered.

  • [justify][fancypost bgcolor=; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia]Sandmask too had put his name in the running. The sandy tom had been growing more confident ever since he'd helped Dustclaw, and had begun to think maybe he had an actual chance! Now he padded into the medicine den, a few stalks of goldenrod in his mouth. Well, either that or marigold...

Sandmask was pleasantly surprised to find so many other cats, and dipped his head in greeting. "Hello, everyone!"

Suddenly it seemed like the whole of ShadowClan was there, each of them running for the medicine cat position. Dustclaw wondered how genuine their politeness was. Surely, some of them were ready to claw at each other's throats. They were all competing for limited spots, for a title that would make them respected across the forest. There had to be some rivalry.

However, Dustclaw couldn't find any. Well, she had come here for a reason. Then again, she didn't want to say anything about it. In fact, she just felt overwhelmed. Her huge size could barely fit into the cramped little den, and with the extra cats it was suffocating. "If someone wants to prove to Sparrowstar that you can heal, follow me for a little opportunity." As always, Dustclaw's voice was flat. She limped out of the den, and was thankful for the fresh air. Now, hopefully, someone smart would actually try to help her.

  • [justify][fancypost bgcolor=; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia]Sandmask looked briefly puzzled, but the cream warrior followed after Dustclaw without much hesitation. He wondered if she'd managed to hurt herself again - that would be unfortunate. Well, either way, Sandmask was eager to prove himself.

Ah, the same tom who had popped the joint back into place. He clearly was trying to show off. "I was told to go to the medicine den, but at first I only found a kit doing a little exploring." It was rude, and that was Dustclaw's intent, but her voice gave away nothing. Everything about her was plain, dull, yet biting at the same time.

well, dustclaw was a grump today. to littlekit's knowledge, the oversized warrior hadn't even been in the clan for that long. who was she to tell her off? "i'm not!" the mostly white kit meowed indignantly, her tail flaring up with annoyance.

"you too!" she whispered back to lilyfang. actually, it was more like a shout than a whisper. unfortunately, littlekit hadn't learn the art of whispering or the concept of indoor voices yet. apart from being another one of the cats auditioning for medicine cat, littlekit didn't know lilyfang well, but she supposed the warrior was nice enough.

then, sandmask had entered the den too. unlike the other cats, littlekit recognized the warrior tom right away. "hello sandmask!" she chirped happily. sandmask was actually one of her favorite cats in the clan, apart from sparrowstar of course. the kit would be so glad if she and sandmask could mentor her to be a brilliant medicine cat apprentice.

as much as littlekit resented dustclaw for telling her off, she still wanted to impress sparrowstar and increase her chances of being chosen. sadly, the young she-kit had no training whatsoever so she simply stood next to sandmask, ready to help him at the moment's notice.

  • [justify][fancypost bgcolor=; bordercolor=; borderwidth=0px; font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia]Sandmask nodded, although a frown crossed his features as Dustclaw mentioned Littlekit again. "She's only a kitten," he scolded - surely the bobcat hadn't been this serious when she was younger? "Poppy seeds are pretty much always used for pain. Too many might make you groggy... I think I'd say about three for you, since, um, you're bigger than most of us," Sandmask explained, pausing to glance down at Littlekit fondly.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=; width: 350px; border-left: 1px solid grey; border-right: 1px solid grey;][justify]Dustclaw nodded her head briskly at Sandmask's diagnosis, doing her best to simple ignore Littlekit. She had never liked the young cats. They were loud, ignorant, and whiny. They had to get their way, or they complained. Dustclaw could never understand why any cat would ever want them.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border: none; font: 8pt Georgia][hr][hr]L I L Y F A N G -- [justify][size=8]Having Sandmask here was staring to make her nervous. It seemed that he already knew something about herbs, while she knew absolutely nothing. StarClan, please watch over me a guide my paws, she sent the silent prayer. As a young kit, she had always been taught to have a close bond with StarClan. Lilyfang had no idea if other warriors prayed the way she did, but it didn't matter to her.

Lilyfang nodded to Littlekit. She gave the kit a small nuzzle, absolutely adoring her. Littlekit was just so adorable! "I'm sure that StarClan will guide our paws down our paths," she told everyone, whiskers twitching.

She smiled softy and meowed, "I've got to go on a hunting patrol, it's almost sunhigh. You guys are welcome to come with me if you like!"

littlekit's ears perked up as she heard an opportunity in sandmask's words. "i'll get them!" the mostly white kit offered eagerly, referring to the poppy seeds. she immediately jumped up to her paws and was now rummaging through the herb stores in search of the tiny black seeds. fortunately, she knew what the herb looked like, and unfortunately, in her quest for the seeds she had scattered other herbs all over the place.

"Oh, Littlekit, look at the mess you've made!" the warrior light-heartedly scolded her. "I'll help you clean it up. I don't know anything about herbs, but they should all smell different. How hard can it be?" It seemed that her patrol would have to wait, or maybe she could find an NPC to cover it.
