  • Butterflykit had refused to come out of the nursery for most of her life, to terrified of what might be out there. This fear was normal for butterfly. She had always been jumpy and fearful... She'd once even been terrified of her shadow, although now she was used to it.

The tiny torbie kitten was trembling as one of the npc queens pushed her out of the nursery, muttering things about 'to big to stay' as she did so. Terrified, Butterflykit didn't the only thing she could think for; she hid in a patch of ferns. The entire fern patch quivered as she trembled, her turquoise eyes wide in a mix of awe and terror as she gazed around.

She found herself calming down as she took in all the sights and smells. The colors out here were more vibrant than the ones in the nursery, as everyone and everything was illuminated by the sunlight. The scents were more mixed, but a lot stronger here, and she couldn't identify all of them at this point. She could see the sky, almost as bright a blue as her eyes were. It was all so stunning that she hardly noticed the cats around her.

  • [size=8]"Butterflykit! What are you doing in there?" Sparrowpaw asked in a soft voice, crouching down and peeking through the ferns. She'd seen her littermate's brown and white tail flicking through a small gap and curiosity had led her over. A small frown crossed the calico's features as she imagined other cats bullying her sister. Sparrowpaw squirmed forward, pushing through the ferns and lying down beside Butterflykit. "You okay?" she asked, gently nudging her littermate's ear.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=;border:0px;text-align:justify;line-height:14px]runningkit's interest had peaked when he noticed sparrowpaw peering into the ferns, then slowly sliding inside to join someone else in the patch. trod ding over, the kit would stick his head between two of the delicate green fronds, blinking as he came face-to-face with both of his littermates.

"oh, it's just you two." runningkit said, almost frowning. but what did eh even expect? he didn't have the same compassion as sparrowpaw to notice how uneasy butterflykit was at being out right now, and he couldn't sympathize with her due to the fact that he'd basically charged out of the nursery the first chance he got. he hadn't really ever paid any attention to his other sister, either. "what're you doing in here?" he echoed sparrow's question that she'd asked butterflykit, looking at the both of them curiously.

  • Butterfly had twitched in surprise, turquoise eyes wide, before she realized it was her sister. She flattened her fur, scooting over just a bit to make room for her. "One of the queen said I had to come outside... That I'm getting to big for the nursery now." She whispered. The nursery was all she knew, and it was rather scary for the jumpy kitten to take in everything all at once. She jumped again when runningkit spoke up, her pale patched fur fluffing up in surprise. She hoped he had heard, since she didn't really want to repeat herself to her brother. "it's so different out here.." she murmured, tail wrappings around her body.

"that's nonsense - you shouldn't be forced to do anything you don't want to!" the medicine cat announced as she came closer behind her children. they'd never know, though. they'd never know how hard she'd worked to keep them safe, how much she loved their father. they'd never know the things she'd done for them, the torture, the pain. how she'd broken the codes for them.

instead, she'd always be the medicine cat. at best, sparrowpaw's mentor. that was her fate in life, right? she eyed up butterflykit as she approached, and smiled at her. "mintyblossom. i'm one of the, uh, the ones who rescued you from bloodclan." she told the girl, taking a seat behind her apprentice.
