Several others were stacked at his side, a few of them with bookmarks in them all around half-way. The book he was reading then was titled 'Dictionary'. A boring book to most, but he was trying his best to sound out the words to get a better understanding of his clan-mates' language.

Nozomi sighed and flipped the page, setting his paw on one of the words. 'Ignominy'. "Ig... no... my... knee...?" His brow knitted together and he tilted his head. "Ehh??"

[fancypost bgcolor=; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=; width: 420px; margin-top: -6px; font-size: 8pt][justify]Nathaniel had simply been taking a break from sorting through his countless albums of music to find one disc and had decided he would go back to doing that after he got something to eat and drink. He certainly wasn't going to drink any of that salt water - he heard it made people delirious and talk all sorts of weird crap, and Nathaniel certainly didn't want any of that stuff. He may be a little dumb but he wasn't that dumb, Christ. Large paws guiding him forwards, the fiery colored wolf would find himself approaching a few trees that were standing close together in a bunch though the trees themselves wasn't what had brought him closer. No, instead he noticed the familiar black figure of Nozomi sitting just under one of those trees. He remembered the guy quite clearly!

His bright green gaze sparkling, the DJ and mechanic would bring himself closer until he also noticed the stacks of books that were next to Nozomi. His fictional eyebrows furrowed together just slightly, though he immediately understood why the dark-furred cat was hunched over one of those thick-looking books. He seemed confused, too, so maybe he was reading English material? "Hm? What's up?" Nathaniel would question with a curious tilt of his head, his nose twitching faintly as he looked down at the dictionary. The words looked upside down from where he was, standing in front of Nozomi, though his gaze remained firmly planted on the word just above Nozomi's paw.

It took him a few moments to process what the other had said, trying to translate the English words to Japanese. "Learning." He finally responded and turned his head back down, focusing back on the word.

He tried to sound it out a few more times before giving up. A defeated groan slipped out of his mouth and he tapped his paw a few times on the book; eventually he looked back up to Nathaniel, then furrowed his brow and glanced away. Almost begrudgingly, he motioned to the word. "How do... you say?" Nozomi mumbled out, tail twitching.

[fancypost bgcolor=; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=; width: 420px; margin-top: -6px; font-size: 8pt][justify]Nathaniel grinned sheepishly as he flopped his rump onto the ground, dipping his head slightly in apologies towards Nozomi. He hadn't meant to startle him, though he supposed he should've greeted the other when he was a little further away so he wouldn't have made him jump. He didn't really think about that kind of stuff until it was too late, which may cost him in the near future. Eh, I'll think about that crap later. The male's striking emerald gaze flicked back up to Nozomi when he gave a reply to his earlier question and let out a small 'ah' in understanding that was accompanied with a faint nod of his head. Seemingly not many people spoke Japanese around the Exiles, and it looked to be that Nozomi had taken it upon himself to learn the vernacular they used.

The flame colored wolf would flicker his ears forward as the feline began to sound out an word, and his fictive eyebrows seemed to rise upon noting that he seemed to be having trouble. A few moments later, with Nathaniel contently watching with curiosity, Nozomi had given up on saying the word. Nathaniel perked up slightly when he had tapped his paw on the book, effectively regaining his attention, and his gaze drifted down towards the book once again. "Uhm..." Oh, right, the book was upside down. Nathaniel shifted until he was beside Nozomi and leaned over the book, squinting his eyes a little at the word Nozomi had motioned towards.

"Ignominy... i.. ig-no-mi-nee." He mumbled quietly before sitting up again and turning his head towards Nozomi with a smile and repeated his pronunciation of the word carefully. "Ig-no-mi-nee!"

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px; width: 425px; text-align: justify; font-size: 9pt; line-height: 1.3; word-spacing:1px;color:]The fur on the back of his neck stood up as Nathaniel quite casually placed himself next to Nozomi. Right—it'd been quite a while since he'd had physical contact with anyone at all. The feline quivered slightly and scooted over more so they weren't as close, deciding to focus solely upon the book instead of the canine beside him. He almost didn't hear Nathaniel say the pronunciation to him.

"Ig-no-mi-nee." Nozomi mumbled, blinking back to reality. "Ignominy." It rolled smoothly off his tongue, and he repeated it a few times before glancing sideways up at Nathaniel. He blinked his plain gray eyes and looked back down at the book. He moved on to the words that came after, speaking them all quietly to himself. He seemed to catch them rather well; after a while of repeating words back to himself, he grew bored and let out a sigh. Nozomi bookmarked the page and closed the book, pushing it quietly to the side.

He sat in silence for a few long moments. "Thank you." The male finally said, keeping his gaze on the ground in front of him.
