Name Meaning:
Vlieghunds; directly translates to 'Flying Dogs' in Afrikaans.
Subspecies types:
Type one: (Name Here)
Type two: (Name Here)
Type three: (Name Here)
Appearances/Abilties:
Type one can be any breed/species of canine (i.e. a fox, a doberman, a grey wolf, etc.) with any kind of bird. The 'feet' are bird talons, and are mostly mixes of owl talons and paws, but the feet differ with the type of bird. Around their face is a 'crown' of feather, starting with the pelt color and slowly melding to the wing color. Under the chin is a feathery bib, that can be any color. Tails are completely avian; they have to be in order for the Vlieghunds to be able to fly. Wing size and shape is determined by the type of bird that the canine is 'fused' with. Eyes can be any color, as well as the feathers. Pelt must be a realistic color.
Type one example (wip):
Type two is based off of Bats, and like type one, can have any kind of canine base. Type twos tend to have larger ears and noses, along with smaller, darker eyes. They have a mane of softer fur around their head and necks. The fur also trails along their spine. Type twos have immaculate hearing, and the ear fur tufts are longer and more wispy in order to pick up sound waves and movements better. Tails are like bat tails; they have a membrane connecting it to the rump. Paws are thin and spidery, but also have better fine motor skills. Type two also are able to have venom or vampire mutations. Wings/manes have to be a darker color than the rest of the body. Pelts must be realistic colors.
Type three is based off of Dragons, Drakons, or Wyverns. They have scales matching the colors of their wings around their eyes and faces, with horns sprouting from their skulls (horns are optional). Like type two and one, they can have any canine body as the base. Wings are usually somewhat larger than the other types, but they are heavier and render them somewhat slower. It is very rare that they can breathe fire/ice, but it can be common for them to have venom. Paws are a mix between dragon claws and paws. Scales/spines protrude along the spine, trailing down to the tail. The tail is completely scaled, and can end in a whip-thin end, and end with a spike, or an end with a tuft of fur (must be matching to pelt color/consistency). Can have any eye/scale color. Must have realistic pelt color.
Anatomy/Bone structure:
The entire species of Vlieghunds have a similar bone structure. Type ones have hollow bones in their wings, legs, and tails, but maintain the canine full bones for the rest of their body, including the ribs, spine, etc. Type twos have full bones, but they are thinner, and the type as a whole is skinnier than the other two. Type threes have thicker bones than the other types, and their wings are slightly bigger to compensate, but as I stated earlier, they are slower because of it.
