Daniel followed her down, he noticed she was holding the sleeves of her sweater so the bruises wouldn't show. It hurt him to know he hurt her, that he was so blinded by the flashbacks that he didn't think that he was home. The embrace of his parents soon engulfed him. It was a comfort, but he was glad they just thought he was relaxing like Skylar had told everyone else despite what happened. If he had almost gotten strangled by an ex-lover he would be inclined to let it slip, but he knew and Skylar knew that they weren't ex-lovers. In fact, they both still loved each other even through the breakup. It was hard to admit that he was jealous of Jamison, but Daniel knew Skylar was smart enough to see the tension and jealousy even if Danny did his best to hide it. She was always able to see right through him. It was a relief when Skylar's mom called for the second half of breakfast because Daniel was tired of answering questions he knew were bound to come. He just didn't want to think about it anymore, but he knew better than to think they would all just let it go.
What Did You Ex[p]ect?

Skylar sat down across from Danny with Jamison next to her. She glanced over to Danny before back up to Jamison who was speaking to her. She knew that Danny was jealous, it was easy to see. The looks he would give him. She didn't know if anyone else saw but she hoped he wouldn't be called out for it. She felt terrible about it though. She felt as if she were leading him on though she wasn't trying to. She felt like the worst person but she kept it to herself.
Sky was speaking with others at the table as if nothing had happened. She laughed with them and shared crazy stories of work and coworkers. She went and reached for her cup when she thought Jamison was about to jump out of his seat by his sudden freaking out. "What the hell happened to your wrists?" He snapped. She jumped and pulled her hands back as she looked at Jamison. She looked around her as everyone fell silent and you could hear the sound of forks hitting plates as people set their silverware down to look over. Sky looked over to Danny with a slight fear, she didn't want Jamison to freak out. She looked back up at Jamison but couldn't think of anything to say. "Did somebody hurt you?" He asked while raising his voice. There was anger in his eyes. "No." she replied instantly. "Then what happened?" He snapped at her for a reply. She couldn't help the small flinch as he yelled at her. She hated when he was mad, he would yell and have this look in his eyes which sometimes scared her. "I was at work and I was helping moving a couch to where I wanted and it fell on my wrists. But I am ok." Sky spoke trying to calm him down. She felt like a child whenever he yelled at her, he made her always feel like she had done something wrong when he yelled. He seemed to relax as he sighed. "You should have told me, how come I haven't seen them before?" He asked in a much calmer voice. She sighed softly as he calmed down. She didn't realize how tense she was until her body visibly relaxed. "I didn't want you to worry. I am fine. And I have been covering it with makeup." She spoke in a soft voice. He sighed and nodded his head. "Tell me next time." He spoke to her as a demand. Sky gave him a tight smile and nodded her head. She turned back to her plate and glanced up at everyone who turned back and began to eat and talk again. She glanced at Danny for only half a second before at her plate. She grabbed her water and took a sip before putting it back. She had lost her appetite.
-
Danny was quiet, he wanted nothing to do with food or socializing, but what made it worse and when Skylar's bruises showed as she reached for something and Danny's whole body went rigid. Even after she "explained" what happened he was tense. He should tell them. The military taught him never to lie. He was betraying part of himself by keeping this a secret. Though at the same time how would he explain that. He hurt Skylar in a rage panic attack. It would be something they couldn't just forgive, but he needed to come clean about this. With one sorrow filled glance over to Sky, he began speaking, visibly nervous about the reactions he would get, but he really needed to be truthful. Sky didn't need this burden to hold and neither did Danny to be completely honest. "Excuse me." he began trying to calm himself down as he spoke. "I have, to be honest with you all, it feels wrong to lie to people I've considered family for many years. Skylar's bruises aren't from work. She is covering for me, and I can't let that be a burden on her shoulders." he could sense that someone might want to kill him, or they all might he wasn't too sure yet. "I caused those bruises on Skylar." Danny knew Jamison would be at a point of anger boiling, just as Danny would. He was braced for anything that may come his way. "I wasn't calming down while I was up there. Actually, I had hit another PTSD episode, and when she came back I grabbed her. I pinned her down...." Danny was at a point of trying to hold back the anger he felt for himself. "and I hurt her. I didn't realize what I was doing, but that is no excuse for the damage I had caused. If you want me to leave I will." he said. Still glancing over to see Skylar's reactions to what he had just confessed to everyone.
-
Skylar looked up at Danny after a few seconds just in time to catch his look to her. Her eyes went wide and she knew exactly what he was going to do. She didn't want Jamison to flip out on him and she knew very well that he would. Jamison had a very thin temper and he was very protective so it wasn't the best mix. Her heart was race as everyone fell silent and looked between Danny and her.
Sky shook her head as he continued speaking. She really wished he wouldn't have started to say anything. "Danny stop." She pleaded him. It was too late though, everyone seemed to have gasped and looked at her. She glanced at everyone else before back up at Danny. She already knew that Jamison was fuming by the news. She flinched and put her head down and shoulder up as if scared and to protect herself when he suddenly stood up. "You did that to her!" Jamison snapped loudly. Sky looked over to Danny before back at Jamison. She quickly stood and grabbed his arm. "Jamie please. It was an accident." She tried to calm him down. No one else was saying anything, no one knew how to react. "I don't care! He can't do that to you and just get away with it! Like he said there was no excuse!" He then snapped at her. She flinched again and felt small and like a child as his anger eyes stared down at her. "Jamie please relax. I am perfectly fine." She tried again. "You have damn bruises on your wrists because of him." He yelled at her. "Can we please just talk outside?" She asked him in a small voice as she looked up at him with a slight fear in her eyes. He simply grunted and yanked his arm from her grip. Sky took a shaky breath before following after him. Her eyes were watering as she stepped outside to talk privately with Jamison so he would cool down. She felt terrible for leaving Danny in there alone with everyone but she had to deal with Jamison first. She would leave them all to talk.
-
His mother shook her head in obvious disappointment, but at the same time his parents knew his PTSD was violent. Though Skylar's parents had needed some explaining, which he did with no hesitation. They were very understanding, not completely forgiving after all Skylar was their baby girl, but they both understood the war and how those horrors could affect people. It was Jamison he was worried about. He knew he was in for hell if he ever met him and Sky wasn't there, but he reacted just as Danny would have. To be completely honest Danny was just as mad, if not madder over what he did to Sky. He wasn't just going to get away with it. Anyone who knew Danny knew he would beat himself up over this, but Jamison didn't know Danny. Sky did, but he doubted Jamison would understand after all they just met today and he wasn't exactly friends with him.
-
Skylar hoped it was going ok inside because she knew it was going to end bad outside. Jamison was pasing back and forth and she tried to calm him down. It was very hard to get him to calm down. He had an even worse temper than Danny. She hated when he was upset and went out to drink then came home or to her place when they weren't living together. She would sleep on the couch waiting for him or lock herself in the room too afraid to open the door and face him. She had once and it was a big mistake.
Sky had tears in her eyes along with fear. "Jamie please stop! He jut grabbed me that's it!" She tried to explain. He wiped around and looked at her with anger. She froze where she was and watched him. "He grabbed you Sky! He bruised you! Hurt you!" He yelled. She looked away from him and closed her eyes momentarily. As she looked up she saw him moving closer to her which made her jump and move back but her back hit the outside of the house. "Please stop yelling." She pleaded him softly. "It wasn't his fault. It is not his fault that he has PTSD." She tried to explain. "I don't care! He takes pills for it. He shouldn't have forgotten the damn things and maybe this wouldn't have happened!" He yelled ignoring her plea to keep his voice down. "Yes and it was a mistake! It happens, I am ok." She spoke. Sky looked at him confused though as he started to laugh. It wasn't a good laugh though, it terrified her. "Do you like that?" He then asked with a glare and anger and jealousy laced in his voice. She looked at him in fear and her heart raced, she couldn't control her breathing very well. "What?" She asked confused. She gasped when he suddenly grabbed her arms tightly. "Do you like when men grab you like this? They squeeze so hard they bruise you?" He growled in her face. Tears started to pour down her face. "Jamison please. Stop you are hurting me." She spoke weakly. "Do you like being pinned like this? Held down feeling weak and useless?" He snapped at her. Sky flinched and looked away from him. "Please stop." She cried quietly. He then let go and stepped away. "I am going home. You can think about what he did to you and how you deserved that for not standing up for yourself." He spoke viciously then walked to his car. She watched him as she cried against the house. After he pulled away she quickly tried to wipe away the tears. Her eyes were red and puffy as she took a deep breath and walked inside. She believed what he said, that she deserved it for not being able to stand up for herself, she needed to learn to do that better. She still wasn't mad at Danny and didn't blame him for it at all because it was out of his control. Sky walked back to where everyone was and quickly wiped her eyes again when she felt tears on her cheeks. "I am going to go lay down for a little bit." She spoke weakly and before anyone could ask what was wrong she left the room and went straight up the stairs and to her room. She went up to her room and closed the door but didn't lock it. She laid under the covers on her bed and began to sob once more. Her whole body was shaking as she cried.
-
Danny could hear them from inside. He couldn't make any words out, but by the way, Sky looked coming in he knew it wasn't good. He went to go check on her, but his mother stopped him. She wanted to check on her, she told Danny he should stay down here. He was pacing just like everyone else. Anyone who knew Sky knew she always went to lay down when she was upset.
Jackie, Daniel's mother, walked quickly up the steps and down the hall to Skylar's room. The door was closed. She knocked quietly as she announced that she was coming in. As she came in she saw Skylar sobbing and the covers were vibrating as her whole body shook. "Sky, darling." she said, warily. "What happened out there? What is going on? Everyone heard Jamie shouting. We're worried about you." she murmured, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
-
Skylar heard the knock and tried to stop crying but it was hard. She heard Jackie's voice and she felt herself relax some. She knew that Danny would be very pushy to know what had happened. She knew everyone was probably freaking out downstairs and she knew Danny would be pacing. He always did that when he was worried. She used to love watching him study the day before a test pacing back and forth with a book in his hands. She bit her lip at her question.
Sky didn't know how to answer, she didn't want to completely lie to her but she didn't want to tell her the truth. She didn't want to give any of them details about what happened. Everyone had thought that their relationship was perfect and they were always happy all the time when they were together. For the most part that was true. "He just has a very short temper." She began. Sky didn't face Danny's mother, she was too scared to. "I was trying to calm him down and it wasn't working. He was yelling... then he left." She spoke quietly. She wouldn't tell anyone that he hurt her, on purpose. She knew now that he probably wouldn't go out shopping with her and her mother. She wiped her tears and sat up finally turning and facing Jackie. She gave her a weak smile. "I am ok. I am just upset." She spoke a more half truth.
-
Jackie knew Sky well enough by now to know that when she faced away she was usually not telling the truth or she was leaving details out. Like fights with Danny when they were in school she would try to play them off, but when talking to her she never faced her. She was doing the exact thing now. "Sky, I've known you for a long time and even I can tell you aren't telling me the whole story. I don't want to pry, but by his tone and his tone of voice it is obvious something more went on out there." she didn't want to pry, but this was something she couldn't just let go. After all, Sky was like her daughter there is no way she could let it go if she knew she was lying. Jackie also knew Danny was down below them pacing waiting to hear about how Skylar was doing. Jackie hated to sound harsh by prying at her, but she wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. She just wanted the truth, and she assumed Skylar's own mother would want the truth as well.
-
Skylar frowned and looked down at the covers. She knew she should tell her but she really didn't want anyone to freak out. She didn't think it was that bad but she knew everyone else would, especially Danny. She didn't know what he would do if he knew of everything that happened with Jamison, not just today but before that as well. She felt her eyes watering again.
Sky looked back up at Jackie with worry. She used to talk to her about all of her problems with Danny and she also would talk to her own mother. Usually it was a fight at Danny's house because they were usually there more often. He own house used to have people around all the time, her parents loved to throw parties so her and Danny would just go to his house. "Jamison has a temper. Sometimes he freaks out a little too much and does things he shouldn't and regrets." She spoke softly. Sky wasn't positive that he was ever regretful but she said it just to try to make it easier. "He was yelling at me for sticking up for Danny saying that it wasn't his fault. I tried to tell him that he only grabbed me and that he didn't hit me or hurt me too bad... but he didn't believe me." She spoke and her voice started to crack and eyes water. "He grabbed my arms and pinned me against the house as he yelled at me. I know it sounds bad but he was so angry and I get that. He was upset and he doesn't know how to deal with his anger or how to control it. I am fine though." She spoke as tears rolled down her cheeks. Sky had looked back up at Jackie. "He is not a bad person. I promise." She spoke weakly. "Can you please not tell anyone that though? Especially not Danny. Please? I don't want any of them to worry about something that isn't a big deal." She pleaded her. She didn't want anyone to know and she hated that she had even told Jackie because she would worry too.
-
Jackie was shocked, Jamison never seemed like the kind of guy to grab a girl, let alone Skylar. She knew he had been quite uncomfortable about Danny being back. She noticed the glances to each other, she didn't think anyone else had, but Danny hadn't come home last night. So he must have been talking and then passed out in Skylar's room, which could sound worse if you didn't know them. Danny and Sky had been best friends since they were in middle school and dating and breaking up had done nothing to really change the dynamic of their friendship. A friendship like Skylar and Danny had was not something that could just go away. Those feelings Danny had and no doubt Sky had were not easily forgotten, after all, they both loved each other with every part of them. She had even gotten regrets and musings from her son while he was overseas about Skylar, but told her to not tell her about what he said. He always said there was no use to get her hopes up again if he didn't come home one day. Jackie understood Skylar's request for that information to stay quiet. She had every right to ask for that. "Of course Sky. I will not say anything, but you really should discuss this with your mother." As much as Jackie loved Skylar as a mom, her own mother had a right to know about what happened, so did her dad, but she would let Skylar break the news.
-
Skylar stared at her with worry as she waited for a response. She knew it was a lot to ask of her, to keep this secret. She didn't tell her everything he did but she didn't ask and hoped she wouldn't. She knew if she told her other and father about it all of hell would break loose. Her mother would cry while her father would call the cops or yell in anger because of what he did to her then beat him the next time he saw him. She was terrified that Danny would find out. She knew he wouldn't wait until the next time he saw him like her father would. He would hunt him down and beat him senseless.
Sky felt herself instantly relax when she agreed. She gave her a weak smile and nodded her head. She wiped whatever tears had fallen. "Thank you Jackie. It really means the world to me." She spoke honestly. She then sighed and nodded her head. She would try to tell her parents but she had to find a way to make it sound not as bad as everyone would seem it is. "Ok. I promise I will." She spoke. Sky then stretched and yawned before laying back down. "I will be down a little later, could you just make sure everyone calms down and tries to stop worrying. I am just going to sleep it off." She spoke in hopes that it would work. She would always come up to her room and lay down when she was upset and eventually passed out from crying herself to sleep or was just so emotionally drained.
-
Jackie nodded knowing Skylar would need some time to herself to think and figure out how to tell her own parents and Danny. She knew Skylar well enough to know she won't want to tell Danny, but Danny was someone who wanted to keep her safe and there is no way something like that would slide. But Jackie had promised to tell no one. As she came downstairs the questions flooded in. All she could do was tell them that Sky was resting and just taking some time to herself and that she didn't want to be disturbed which could be understood by anyone there. Danny was, of course, worried as always. He did finally sit back down for the rest of the meal. They all sat in a silence as they ate, waiting for Sky.

Skylar fell asleep once Jackie left. She knew that she was right. She would have to tell her mother and father but she didn't know when. She was still debating on whether or not she would tell Danny or not. She was leaning more towards no though. She would break up with Jamison and it would be over. She still loved him though, even with his short temper and jealous. He did terrify her but she still loved him. Though she did love Danny more and couldn't stay with Jamison knowing that.
Sky slept for a good hour before waking up again. She got out of her bed and walked to her bathroom. She brushed her teeth and looked at herself in the mirror. She slipped off the sweater she had put on and felt her eyes water up again. She looked like a total mess. Her eyes were red and puffy from her crying and rubbing and cheeks tear stained. She had bruises on her wrists and there were faint bruises on her arms where Jamison had roughly grabbed her and had her against the wall. Sky shouldn't have even moved against the house, she should have stayed grounded, though he would have probably shoved her against it anyways, he had done that before. She didn't realize that she was crying again until she felt it on her jawline. She quickly wiped her tears away and put her sweater back on. She couldn't do anything about her red eyes so she would have to go back downstairs looking the way she came up. She took a deep breath and started her way down. Breakfast was probably over by now or just finishing up so she went the other way of the dining room. Instead of going right and into the dining room she went left and into the living room. The fireplace had a fire from this morning and she sat on the love seat closest to the fire. Sky curled up in the corner of it and watched the fire with her head resting on the back cushion. She faced towards the fire and away from everything else as she focused on the sounds of the fire. She only took up half of one cushion of the two cushioned couch that someone named the love seat. She always thought it was rediculous to name a couch a love seat.
-
Everyone had left and Daniel and his parents stayed behind. Everyone was talking in the kitchen and we faintly heard the steps as Skylar descended. Danny was hesitant, but he knew it might help for her to have a friend around right now. As he opened the door to the kitchen and entered the living room. Where Skylar's father had made right after everyone left. He saw Skylar in the loveseat that her family had even when they were dating. He remembered cuddling up on it when they would watch movies at her place. He decided to slump down in the chair across the room. He stayed silent because he didn't want to push her, but he wanted her to feel safe and open to talk to him. Not as an exe and someone she loved, but as someone who was her best friend for years. He wanted her to be able to feel like she could talk to him so he just sat there.

-
Skylar knew that Danny had walked into the room. She could feel his eyes on her and had heard his steps. She didn't know what to say exactly. She couldn't tell him about Jamison and the way he would act towards her when they were alone. She couldn't tell him how he scared her when he just yelled or gives her a dangerous look. He would worry and freak out. Jamison wasn't always that way. He was very sweet to her. He made her smile and laugh and he did make her happy. She would always be on edge though and had to watch her words very carefully just in case she said something wrong and he snapped.
Sky looked over to Danny with a hidden pain in her eyes. She felt drained from the day and it had barely started. She didn't want to go out with her mother and go shopping but she knew it would be a good distraction. She gave him a small smile as she kept her eyes locked with his. She knew very well that he was worried about her. "I am not a wounded animal Danny. You can sit with me." She spoke in a soft voice with a sweet smile of amusement by his distance even though she felt like she couldn't smile. Danny could make her smile without even trying. When Sky was around him she just felt better about everything, she would always find a way to lighten up the mood around him easily because he simply just made her happy. With Jamison when he was upset or something was going wrong she couldn't make anything light and happy. She looked at the negative instead of the positive. With Danny she didn't need to watch her words and she wasn't on edge. She felt safe around him, even now after his panic attacks and when he grabbed her. She still trusted him and knew he wouldn't ever hurt her on purpose... unlike Jamison.
-
Of course Danny knew that Skylar wasn't a wounded animal, but the last thing he wanted to do was overstep his boundaries. And above that, he was afraid, not of Skylar, but of what he, himself, did to her. He couldn't imagine ever hurting her even if he was in an attack. He was ashamed to admit he had hurt her, but it was the right thing to do when he told everyone. Skylar shouldn't have to hide over something that he did. He said nothing, but let him mind wander to a time when everything was simpler. High school, not the best time in his life, but Skylar made it a lot better than he thought. He never knew how much Skylar could and would change the way he looked at his life. It was exciting for him to think about those times. The dances they went to when he had his breath taken by her beauty. It was overwhelming to think about. The dates they went on. The movies they loved to watch together. The parties they went to as a couple. The whole school calling them the power couple. That time seemed so far away and he can't believe he let it end for four years. He traded that life for a life of off the record missions and being tortured by the enemies. He lost his best friend to the war, he lost the love of his life to the war, he almost lost the will to go on because of the war. What happened to him that made him think it was a good idea? He should have listened to Skylar that night that they argued and fought.
-
Skylar watched Danny with slight worry. He stayed where he was and not over next to her. She knew he was worried and still upset with himself even though she didn't think he should be. It wasn't his fault and she probably shouldn't have touched him. She had to remember to look up things about how to help with people who have PTSD. She wanted to know what to do if it ever happened again. She wanted to prepare herself for the worst as well.
Skylar kept her eyes on Danny with a frown. She didn't want him to be so worried and upset. He shouldn't have to be, she shouldn't have touched him and she needed to learn to stick up for herself like Jamison had said. He was always right about her. "Danny..." she began as she stood from her seat. She moved to the other couch that he sat at across from where they used to always cuddle. She sat down next to him and looked up at him. "Why are you beating yourself up over this?" Sky asked in a soft voice. Everyone was gone except for their parents but they were all either in the kitchen or in the living room, but most likely in her father's over sized office that he turned has a seating area in it. She grabbed his hand and gave it a small squeeze for comfort. She wanted him to talk to her because she would always be there for him. He that as well. He could always talk to her if he needed it or wanted to get something off of his chest.
-
Daniel was snapped out of his thoughts as Skylar asked him why he was still beating himself up. How could he not be upset? As she sat next to him he took a deep breath before he began speaking. "Skylar.. I hurt you. I don't have any excuse for what I did. Even in a PTSD episode I almost didn't hear you. I could have killed you Sky. I don't want that to ever happen to you again." he signed. Danny sat back on the couch and covered his face with his hands. He was so drained, but he just couldn't seem to get what happened off of his mind. Never in his right mind could he see himself hurting Sky which is why when it happened it was still a huge deal. He didn't want anything like that to happen again, but what if he ever ran out of meds or he forgot, would he hurt her again or would he be able to fight against the urges of his attacks to save Sky. "Please explain to me why you don't care about what I did, knowingly, or not? I bruised you, you started crying and the fear that flashed through your eyes are burned into my mind. How can you just forgive me so easily?" he mumbled as he turned his blue-grey gaze to stare into her beautiful eyes he had grown to love so long ago. And the eyes he had remembered overseas. The eyes he would love to see in the morning when he woke up.
-
Skylar listened to him carefully as he finally spoke. She was glad he was telling her even though she knew mostly why he was upset. She knew her reaction scared him. She would feel the same if he looked at her the way she looked at him. She understood but she just wished he would realize that she wasn't scared of him and she would be there with him through all of this. She frowned when he wanted an explanation.
Sky didn't think she would have to give him one, that he already understood why. She sighed softly and didn't answer at first. She wanted to collect it all first so she knew what she was saying. She looked away from his eyes that she adored and loved so much but only for a moment. She didn't want to look away too long, she didn't want to worry him and she didn't want to miss looking into his eyes before he was pulled away from her again. She looked back up at him with her soft brown golden eyes. "Danny. I love you. I was scared. I didn't know what was going on, I didn't know what to do to try and help you and that scared me. I wanted to be there for you, to be strong for you and help you... and I couldn't." She spoke with a frown of disappointment in herself. "I knew that you would never hurt me, not on purpose. I knew you would regret it the instant you realized what was happening because that is who you are. You aren't the PTSD. You wouldn't do that. And yes I got hurt but I will live and I will be perfectly fine." She spoke and gave him a reassuring smile as she reached over and grabbed his hand. "I wasn't scared of you, I have never and will never be scared of you. The fear that you saw was for you. I was terrified for you. That the war could do such a thing to you, could put you in so much pain when you don't deserve any of it. Yes the pain made me tear up but it was mainly because I was so fearful for you. I don't want you to be going through this and I hate that you do, I hate it more than anything." Sky spoke with a deep frown and a slight anger towards it all. Her features softened though as her free hand moved up to cup his cheek and bring him closer to her. "I will forgive you every time, no matter what you do. It isn't you. It is the fear and violence the war put on you. I love you no matter what and I need you to understand that completely. I don't know if you forgot over these four years, but I still love you just as much and That includes, now, the PTSD. I could never be upset with you for this." She spoke in a gentle voice. She really needed him to understand that she did love him.
