ThunderClanners were hunting there, RiverClanners were fishing, and even SkyClanners used the large sun-baked stones to lounge. It hadn't caused any troubles yet... but that wasn't going to last long. Leafbare was on the near horizon, and with that came the shortage of prey. The Clans couldn't share territory, especially a strip of land that usually held a fair amount of prey. Fights would break out among them. It was better if somebody claimed them now, and that was what Dapplebreeze was here for.
Admittedly, she wasn't in the best shape to fight. The silver bengal's left eye was still swollen shut and horribly scabbed from Sparrowfall's attack, and the limp had returned in her back right leg. Maybe a fight just was an all-around bad idea; but Marshstar had commanded it, and so it must happen. It wasn't like the ThunderClan deputy was going to fight now; she only had Redwing and Ivoryskies with her. And maybe ThunderClan wouldn't have to fight at all. If RiverClan and SkyClan simply agreed to let them have the territory, then there would be no fighting. But Dapplebreeze doubted that that would happen.
Her paw pads were warmed by the stones as she stepped onto the Sunningrocks. With a nod of her head and a flick of her tail, she sent her two other Clanmates scattering off in different directions. She moved from tree to tree, spraying each one with ThunderClan scent, in turn with her Clanmates. By the time that they had finished and were standing on the Sunningrocks again, the entire area on their side of the river reeked of ThunderClan scent.
Dapplebreeze sat. Her tail was curled around her paws, and her chest was puffed out. Sure, one of her back legs was sticking out a bit awkwardly from beneath her and her eye was an ugly mess of blood clots. But the confidence that burned in her open blue optic and the strength that radiated from her made her a clear threat.
The deputy parted her white maw and howled. Her voice poured across the river and echoed through RiverClan's territory. Even after she had ran out of breath, she sucked in more air and continued the noise. It was loud, and filled with stubborn strength. She was only trying to get RiverClan's attention. The other patrol heading to SkyClan would have to meet up on their border; but Dapplebreeze got the special treat of showing RiverClan what she had done. What ThunderClan had done. She would wait until another cat appeared before she would tell them what was happening. That was, if they didn't figure it out by the overwhelming ThunderClan scent.
