He's here for a reason. It's hard to put the exact goal into words, but he's here for something. That's what Darkpaw keeps telling himself when he sits at the border. His eyes are cold and wary, but underneath the sheen comes something like anxiety. Worry. He doesn't want to be driven away. That was the same thought that had plagued him while he was in SunClan. It was slow steps to this border. ScarClan, their worst enemy, when he'd been around. ColouredClan, an anticlan but not an enemy. SunClan, one of their greatest allies. And now the canine sits here, feeling like he couldn't breathe. Go back to ColouredClan. Talk to Red. Forget about this. Not yet. Darkpaw had been here when he needed a family, and they had provided. Was his family still here? Would anyone remember him? It doesn't matter. Yes it does. He's not sure anymore. He's here for a reason, and that's his camera, probably tucked someone in not-future-not-self's belongings, because he was Darkpup but Darkpup wasn't him. Never would be.

"Excuse me? I'm. It's Darkpaw. Used to be Darkpup. I'm visiting?" He'd ditched his knives for once in his life, and the apprentice feels bare without them. Dark fur, bright eyes, a carbon copy of who he was supposed to be. Thick fur shifts with the breeze and then his own breath, paler paws shifting nervously in the grass. "I need to get something of mine."

  • ★ ★ ★ weaving her way through the tall stalks of grass and clusters of waxy-leaved shrubbery, daypaw would find herself by the border, and facing an unfamiliar male. she had never seen him before and he was on the border, so the feline guessed that he was either a visitor or a joiner. then he spoke. he was a visitor named darkpup and he needed to get something. worry began to creep into the feline's being, and her breath began coming out in short little huffs. calm down. was she allowed to let random people come in and look for something? what if he was a spy? calm down, if he was a spy he wouldn't have some to the border! that thought helped calm the advisor down a bit, and after a few moments, she spoke. "hello darkpaw, i'm... i'm daypaw an advisor here." a pause, "what exactly are... are you looking for? we... we should be able to help."

It makes sense that she would suspect him of something like that. It would clear up, though. When B or Stevie or — Chervil, maybe? San? They sort of know him. Is Kate here? Happykit? They know him. But this is a face that he hasn't seen before, and it's right of her to worry about it. Smart. He would approve of that, honestly. He's as paranoid as that and then more. "Dark and Day," he remarks dryly, smile small and almost emotionless. Her rank didn't mean too much to him, as almost everyone he had known here had shared something similar. Hell, his not-future-not-self had been the deputy before — before Darkpaw happened, and then everything went to hell. No matter. "I lived here before. Some of my things are in one of the huts. I need them back." Here, the wolfdog hesitates and swallows hard. "Is there — I'm looking for Boypaw? And Stevie? Do you know anyone named Wraithstatic?" It's not easy. It wouldn't be.

  • [align=center][fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px; width: 420px; maxheight:; text-align: justify; font-size:8.5pt][font=arial]He wasn't able to mistake Darkpaw for Win, surprisingly. Or maybe unsurprisingly. There was recognition but there wasn't even a single, brief flash of deja vu, or even the need for a double take. Maybe he'd finally accepted that Win was gone, but- how was he here? He'd thought- he'd thought that Darkpup grew up. That B had buried him with Win, that the child who'd curled into his chest had bled out right alongside Win, seeping away with only memory to preserve him. And even with that, B wasn't the most reliable resource anymore. "He's gone." For a second he thought he was talking to himself, putting a voice to his confusion, but he was answering Darkpaw instead. "Wraithstatic. Haven't seen him." He thought he was gone, anyway. There was too much in his head to concentrate fully, thoughts and memories merging together, tangling everything, and for several moments, he just stared at Darkpaw, his features devoid of anything remotely responsive. If this was real, Darkpaw wasn't the child he knew anymore. There was an unfamiliar brand on his shoulder, and he was older, in more ways than the obvious aging of his body. "Your things are still here." He thought they were, and finally, there was a shift in his expression, just a small furrow in his nose. Was he leaving for good? B still didn't know what the hell was going on, but if even a piece of Win had lived- if there was some part of him left-

No. Darkpaw wasn't Win. He thought he'd already settled that before, but here he was, lost again. "Wasn't expecting a visit." He didn't know he could.

He has to force himself to control his inhale, sharp and full. He doesn't know what he expected. Maybe the same person that he had left, but there's something different about the sight in front of him. Of course there is. He's only here when something's wrong. That makes his throat stick some, sharp and coppery. Bloody cotton. It's gross. At least it's better than choking on it entirely, though it's a close thing. He's bigger. Dark looks him over a few times, just to make sure that it's the same person. The start of a mane makes him look bigger still, a little fluffier. Not fluffy, though. Tough. Pale eyes linger on his paw — it had been bandaged, last time. Healed now. Of course. They're both different, because things had changed, but they were still standing. For now. "Gone," Darkpaw echoes, heavy word followed by a heavier sigh. He forces himself to accept it. "Lock, too? What about Kate? Happy? Prague?" The more he talks, the more prominent the slow waver of fear becomes. The world keeps turning. With or without him.

"I'm — Win had them. I assume." It would make sense, right? So maybe the wolfdog's asking permission, maybe for directions, maybe for company. More than anything else, really, he wants to throw himself into the lion and sleep for a bit. "Uhm." The tremor is back. "I wasn't going to. Visit. I don't —" Belong here. It's true, isn't it? No matter what B had said, way back then. You'll always have a place here. That wasn't the truth, but it had still felt nice.
