Sleeping:
Most of the time, this is in his meditation chair/chamber. However, Vader also has this other thing that's i've seen somewhere that's like a coffin? Other than that, refering to this tumblr post, Vader could sleep Standing up.

Can he smell?
YES!

Could he get sick?
Yes, but no one would notice until Vader makes a swan dive for the floor and is out cold. Or he's walking into doors and talking about the Clone Wars. here. and here

Eating?
Darth Vader eats in the privacy of his cabin, away from everyone else. When he eats, he opens a slot of his suit, and basically receives it through a tube to his stomach. It's shameful- and he isn't proud of it.

imagine being able to slaughter an entire squadron of rebels and then watching someone struggle to lift a 10lbs weight. it’s got to be a jarring experience; regular people must look like baby bunnies.

and, see, vader forgets entirely what it’s like to be fragile. if he loses a limb, it’s replaceable. if he gets punched in the gut, someone going to break their hand before swallowing a healthy dose of lightsaber. everything about him is mechanical, replaceable, so he’s separated from the humanity of fragility. when humans break, they heal, when machines break, they’re good to go in a couple minutes or so.

naturally, vader comes to see the average person as weak and breakable.

Relationship between Palps and Vader:
From Vader's perspective;

From when Anakin first came to the Jedi, he was shunned upon by many - but Senator Palpatine looked out for him growing up in Coruscant and they developed a relationship of confidence, in that Anakin felt he could only speak to Palpatine about things he wouldn't even mention to Obi-Wan, his best friend and Master.

Throughout Episode III, he 'knows' Palpatine to be a good man who will lead the Republic to peace, and follows the Sith's lies to the point where Anakin becomes vulnerable - the Windu confrontation, in which Anakin cuts off his master's arm in order to protect his 'friend'... Sidious immediately kills him afterwards.

Having told Palpatine a lot about his feelings for Padme, his nightmares and more, Anakin felt he was close with Palpatine - so much so that he could call him master and abandon his position in the Jedi Order to serve with Palpatine.

However, what he believed Palpatine did not know was that Anakin planned to learn the powers of his master, to then overthrow him and become the new leader of the Empire with Padme. Of course Palpatine was aware, and events which unfold show that Palpatine knew Padme would soon be dead - she was the only motive Anakin had left to live. Without her, Vader became completely obedient to Sidious - and lived the rest of his life carrying out his master's plan to eradicate the Jedi and rule the galaxy.

From Sidious' perspective;

Palpatine engineered the entire relationship from the first day the two met; he knew Anakin was the chosen one and that he was far more powerful than any Jedi of his kind - and so he played a long game in which he gained Anakin's trust as he ascended further in power politically in the Republic.

The relationship begins to shift between Episodes II and III - Palpatine plants the idea into Anakin's head that the Jedi are not who they claim to be, and whether they can truly be trusted to look after the Republic's best interests.

The truth is, Palpatine doesn't care about Anakin personally. He sees Anakin (or 'Vader') as a key to unlock greater power, and he uses it.

We know this to be true, because in Episode VI the Emperor is only interested in having one Skywalker kill the other - either Vader striking down his son, which would further consume his will to live and truly finish his transition to utter darkness, or Luke defeating his father - tapping into his anger and becoming the very villain he had just slain, a servant of Sidious offering power far greater than Vader.
