  • [fancypost bordercolor=transparent; width: 450px][justify][font=georgia]Ephemeris had been out rather late at night, especially for a younger creature. Night just... called to him. The dazzling array of stars freckling the ebony sky, pale clouds sprayed across. But most of all, the moon. The blinding orb that was carelessly perched in the sky, and on clear nights you could see the deeper craters on the surface. He felt at east under the dark cover of night. His orange eyes seemed to be blazing in the moonlight, focused on the sky. His face was so serene and peaceful, as if he was in a deep trance.

  • [align=center][fancypost bgcolor=none; bordercolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; width: 370px;font-size:8pt;line-height: 130%;][justify]It wasn't common for Cherviltea to be up at this time, however, tonight, his usual routine had been thrown into disarray, briefly. It wasn't as if he wasn't getting as much sleep as he probably should have, or anything, and it wasn't as if there were worries keeping him up. There were worries, of course. The sudden plunge into leadership hadn't been something that he had been expecting, after all, and he held his concerns close to heart.. Nonetheless, such wasn't why he was awake, tonight.

Much like Ephemeris, he had merely been beckoned by the tranquility of the dusk, that enveloped the outdoors. Cherviltea couldn't say that he felt more comfortable, at nightfall, than he did in the sunlight's warmth during the day - yet tonight, however, happened to be an exception. Tonight, the world seemed embroidered in a thin, alabaster lace, ethereal light being spun from the moon, which had plastered itself confidently over the onyx expanse.

It was then, that the collie stumbled across the male's serene form. His aureate orbs blinked, for a moment, before he pressed onwards, opting to approach the other. A small yawn breezed by his parted jaws, before dissolving, as a drowsy, though content smile, traversed his expression. "Hey, Eph, what are you doing up so late?"

  • [fancypost bordercolor=transparent; width: 450px][justify][font=georgia]Ephemeris, still under the moon's control, hadn't heard the new-leader approaching until he spoke directly to him. It took him a few seconds to pull his wide eyes away from the Earth's natural satellite and turn his attention to Chervil. He blinked a few times, the words not immediately making sense. And once the syllables finally sat it, he didn't understand; was it uncommon to be up this late? He could recall memories of living with his mother, him staring at the sky while she got drunk. Typical evening.

"Oh. I guess I'm always up this late." He said with a perfectly lopsided grin. "Are you not usually up at this hour?" Eph asked, head turning to the side. His eyes held a fraction of worries, and he could only imagine how anxiety-provoking it must be to take over a clan on such short notice. "How are you taking this.... After Prague stepped down?" He asked slowly, hoping the subject wasn't touchy. He didn't seem like a nervous wreck, though, and probably got this question a million and two times, so the tabby decided it was probably safe to ask.

  • [align=center][fancypost bgcolor=none; bordercolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; width: 370px;font-size:8pt;line-height: 130%;][justify]The collie was somewhat surprised to hear that Eph was usually up this late.. Though, he did suppose that felines were often naturally nocturnal - though, times had changed, it seemed. A lot of people here had schedules they went by. Maybe, being up at this late of an hour had been simply engraved into Eph's lifestyle, for a long while now? Cherviltea didn't know, but the thought of a child staying up so late, every night, happened to worry him. It probably seemed like a trivial worry, at times, but it was still there.

"Ah, I see. You don't get tired?" Chervil would inquire, before shaking his head in response to the other's question. "Not really; I usually sleep early, and wake early." He'd admit, with a light smile. "I'm a sucker for the dawn." Just as how Ephemeris was likely a sucker for the moon - as he himself had been, on this night in particular, for some reason. Maybe the moon simply seemed so.. prepossessing, tonight.

Their follow-up question had surprised him, as his aureate orbs widened briefly, blinking several times in succession, as the question finally sunk in. Nobody had actually asked him as to whether he was doing well, or not. Not yet. He didn't expect them to, either. It wasn't as if he was.. supposed to feel somewhat upset about a succession into leadership. He did feel torn, that it was his comrade whom had stepped down. He did feel grief, over the fact that he would no longer be seeing his friend around as much.. But, he knew that there was a job to be done - and now, a clan to be led, at that.

After a moment, as the faint surprise dissolved, he replaced such an expression with a small smile, as his canary-hued orbs skirted the ground. "I'm.. fine. I was just a little surprised, that's all." He'd pause, sucking in a breath, as he contemplated elaborating a little, and eventually decided that.. Perhaps, there was little holding him back from being honest, with Ephemeris. He didn't know the other too well, but it wasn't as if he'd be revealing his deepest of secrets, either. "I have to admit, I'm pretty worried." He'd explain, with a sheepish smile, and a slight shrug. "That, and I already miss Prague." There was no doubt that he'd be the only one, at that, too. "But.. I'm fine. I should be fine, so I'm fine.. Wait, does that make sense?"

Did it..? He didn't know, but he knew that he'd be fine, at the very least. It'd take some time to.. adjust, he supposed.. But, there was still a lingering sense of doubt. A lingering sense of doubt in himself.. A lingering sense of doubt, probably, in those beneath him, doubting their non-existent faith in his capabilities. It worried him; it really did.. But, every leader was ridiculed, at some point in time. He wasn't planning on breaking beneath the pressure of that.

  • [fancypost bordercolor=transparent; width: 450px][justify][font=georgia]Eph wouldn't understand if Chervil had voiced his concerns; it was like staying up late was coded in his DNA. Why would someone worry if he stayed up? He didn't know that a great number of other creatures couldn't bear to stay up into the dark hours of the night. He couldn't remember a time where he went to bed early. It was just so.... unnatural. It felt wrong to him, almost. As if it went against something deep inside of him.

"No, I get plenty tired." He explained, once again shrugging his broad shoulders. "Just not as early as others do." He admitted. It wasn't uncommon to find the feline snoozing until way after noon. He knew he would have to change that if he wanted to help better his clan, but it would be hard. To be honest, he didn't think he'd ever woken up early enough to see the sun rise -- he had, of course, stayed up late enough to watch it. He could understand appreciating dawn; the calm tranquility, the world slowly arising from its slumber, earth coming to life before one's eyes.

Ephemeris flinched internally as he saw Chervil hesitate at his next question. Maybe he actually was the first to ask him. He hoped and prayed he hadn't overstepped his boundaries and put his foot in his mouth. He released a surreptitious sigh when the new leader spoke. He listened carefully, nodding in sympathy at some points. He could understand; he would be a complete mess if he had been unexpectedly promoted to leader, of all things.

"I don't think you're supposed to be fine." He said slowly. "I mean, I wouldn't be fine. I think it would be hard to be... fine." He continued, choosing his words carefully. "I understand missing him, but I think you'll be a fantastic leader." He said, his tone genuine. Not that Prague wasn't a great leader; he just believed Chervil would be fantastic, too. He paused, looking at the canine. "I know we don't know each other too well and I'm so much younger, but if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here." He added in. He wasn't just saying it out of courtesy -- he really wanted him to know that he would be there for him.
