Tom swayed his way groggily into the kitchen, all the while groping the walls and air in attempts to steady himself. He was wasted as f***, wearing only his loose blue boxers and ridiculous fuzzy teddybear slippers. He shuffled past the window and growled at the sunlight and jerked the blinds shut.
-
Matt was sitting outside for God knows why. It was too early for him to be catching any kind of bus. He was tying his shoe with books scattered about on his porch.
-
"I'm surprised you even woke up this morning." His foster father, Rodger, sounded almost impressed as he tugged at his work coat; more often than not Tom wasn't up before noon. He gave his 'son' a firm pat on the back before stepping to the door. "You should get dressed before you're late for the bus. Unless you want me to take you to school?"
Tom rubbed his nonexistent eyes and began to pour cereal."No thanks, I'll get out in time."
"That's my boy!" Rodger made a scene out of ruffling Tom's hair before he vanished out the door. "Hey and remember to sign up for football this year like we talked about!"
"Yeah whatever." Tom griped and shoved frosted bits of o's in his face. Yeah yeah..I'll sign up to punt morons across a field in 100 degree heat when I'm gay.
Timeskip___
After he was finished getting ready, it was just about time for the bus to pass by. His 'mom' forced a kiss goodbye before he managed to smuggle himself outside. The air was remarkably chilled and the humidity low; being accustomed to this weather, Tom didn't mind this one bit. He shouldered his backpack and strode over to the sidewalk where the bus would stop.
-
Matt began chasing a few papers that had been taken up by the ever subtle wind. He honestly was ready for school, but couldn't remember when exactly he was going. He saw a few people getting out of their houses and took that as queue to go to his bus stop. He only knew where that was because of the sign at the end of the sidewalk.
-
Tom tried to just keep his gaze focused on the road. More and more people were beginning to draw out from their houses and out to the sidewalk. The thought made him anxious and irritated and he started to tap his foot. Another s***ty year ahead. He cranked up the volume on his phone and jammed his hands in his hoodie pockets.
-
After getting his papers and shoving everything into his backpack, he trotted over towards the growing crowd of people. He surveyed the crowd and felt a bit over dressed. He tapped on a random person''s shoulder to engage in a conversation.
-
The dusty-haired brunette sidestepped to separate himself from the crowd of happily chattering faces so that he didn't have someone walk up to him and get the wrong idea of his intentions. He wasn't here to socialize. He was here to be quiet and to be miserable. How could anyone be looking forward to this? He didn't realize that he was already pretty marked out and sticking like a sore thumb. Tom thought that everyone would be towering over him again this year, but it seemed like he had grown taller than he thought over the summer, freakishly even. He suddenly felt like a giraffe standing with a bunch of goats.
