The apprentice groaned as she felt herself grow more and more restless. There was nobody to talk to, as usual. Flamepaw was laying flat on her belly in her usual thinking spot. A flat, broad stone that jutted over a wide portion of the river. She loved to sit at the very edge and watch the torrent of the river rush under her. Nothing could be more relaxing, in her opinion.

But today she was having an exceptionally difficult time feeling relaxed. Rolling onto her back, the reddish she gazed up at the clouds. Maybe someone would come along to socialize with her, before she went crazy with boredom.

Cobrapaw had spent the morning gathering sticks, planning on taking them back to camp. Why? he wasn't sure, but it gave him something at least mildly productive to do. The apprentice had a large pile gathered by now and frowned at them, eyes narrowed. How was he going to carry all of these back to camp? He might be able to tie them together, but with what? Cobra eventually settled for grabbing as many as he could in his mouth and walking back to the camp.

As he went on his way, the Somali felt his paws squish into the moist ground beside the river. Ugh. He couldn't really look down because of his cargo, but didn't think much of it. The roar of the river sounded beside him as he followed it back to camp, shaking mud off his paws with every step. Suddenly, the ground gave way under him and Cobra slipped, his sticks flying into the river- and himself following after. The young tom knew how to swim, but the torrent carried him a ways until his paws hit the ground, near a rock that was jutting out over the fast-moving water. He hacked up some water angrily, fluffing his already fluffy fur out to dry. Great. All that work for nothing. Hopefully no one had seen him.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Her cloud gazing was disturbed by the sound of splashing. Not the usual splashing of the river but like a fish or a large animal had swam by. Curious, the apprentice peeked over the edge of her resting place to spot Cobrapaw, looking completely soaked.

Flame grinned broadly at the sight, whiskers twitching with amusement. Her Somali clan mate was usually so stoic, seeing him in an awkward situation was incredibly rare. "Enjoy your swim?" The ginger she would laugh as she pushed herself off her back, peering down at Cobra with a playful gaze.

The apprentice tried to conceal his jump as a voice sounded above him. He glanced up to see an amused Flamepaw, and his cheeks burned with embarrassment. Of everyone who had to see that, it had to be her. The one she-cat he actually kind of knew, and... Well, liked. Before his thoughts could get any farther, Cobra shook his head and sighed, turning so he could face her a little better with more craning his neck. "Unfortunately, no," He replied, frowning. Oh, he would never live this down.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Flamepaw shook her head at the toms response, her gaze glinted with laughter. It was refreshing to see that even ever serious Cobrapaw could wind up in awkward situations. "Well, don't be embarrassed." The ginger tried to sound encouraging, by the looks of it Cobra wasn't happy about being soaked. "You can come dry off up here in the sun." Flamepaw patted a spot on the rock beside her as she spoke. There was plenty of room and the stone had warmed to a pleasant temperature from being in the sun.

She was offering to share her rock with him? That was... Kind of her. Cobrapaw nodded and jumped up on the rock beside her, doing his best not to drop water all over it. He glanced towards her, then slowly laid down. The rock was warm, and had a nice view. He could see why Flamepaw liked it. Flattening his ears a little, the Somali turned his head to glance at her. "Thank you," He told her. Normally he hated to be pitied or helped by others, but it felt... Different coming from her. She genuinely meant nothing but good.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- "Don't mention it." The apprentice would grin as she moved to make room for the Somali. She didn't mind sharing her rock. In fact, she was happy to have someone to spend time with. "I'm glad to have company anyway."

This was the first time the fiery pelted she had spent one on one time with Cobra. He was usually so reserved that Flamepaw didn't know much about him. He fascinated her though, he was so stoic it made the apprentice want to crack him open and read his thoughts. "So, tell me about yourself." Flame fixed her copper hues on the tom, her tail swishing rhythmically as she waited for him to open up.

I'm glad to have company anyway. Save Splinter, he hadn't thought anyone enjoyed his company. Seemed he was wrong. The tom raised a paw to his face and wiped water off of it, scattering droplets onto the surface of the stone. Her question made him pause. Tell her about himself? Was that how people got to know each other here, by just spilling their life stories? Truth be told, the Somali didn't have much of one to share, but he still felt a little uncomfortable opening up. To anyone else, he would have said no, but... Flamepaw had just been kind to him, so he might as well respond kindly as well.

"I joined RiverClan a little bit ago, with my bro- er, friend Splinter. I don't knew where he is," Cobrapaw told her, nodding as if he was finished. Was that good? Did she expect more? He stared at the flame-colored feline, awaiting her inevitable response.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Flamepaw tilted her head with curiosity as she gazed at Cobra, listening to him speak. She was surprised that he had joined not long ago, just like she had. The common ground made the ginger she happy, at least she wasn't the only sore thumb around here. Although, the Somali seemed to fit in better than her.

"I joined recently, as well." She paused to give her chest fur a few smoothing licks before looking back up at him. "What do you mean you don't know where he is?" Concern clouded her expression in regard to Cobrapaw's friend. She would feel awful if she didn't know where her friend Spear was. The apparentice could imagine it would bother the red tom quite a bit, enough to mention it at least.

Something else they had in common: they weren't native to this Clan. Cobrapaw knew he wasn't the sole outsider, but it was always nice to hear of others joining after being a loner or kitty pet. Right? Was that the right term? Eh. "That's interesting," The Somali rumbled, flicking his tail, "And... I just don't know where he is. He just disappeared. I've known him almost my whole life, but I suppose he needed to move on." A hint of sadness touched Cobra's tone, but his gaze was steady. He had searched for his brother, his best friend, but to no avail. The other tom must have decided to leave, not bothering to tell anyone about it.

"Who are your friends?" The fluffy feline asked curiously, noticing her concern when he mentioned Splinter. Flamepaw was a energetic, friendly sort; she had to have a social group here in the Clan.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Sympathy pinched the felines heart as she listened to Cobrapaw's explanation. She would reach her tail to touch his shoulder in attempt to offer some kind of comfort. It would be awful to be left behind like that, but she was glad to have the Somali tom around. "Maybe he'll turn back up when he's ready." Flame's voice was light hearted and positive as ever, hoping to encourage her friend.

"I only have a few good friends, my best friend is probably Spear. Although, I haven't told her she's my best friend yet." The flame colored she would shrug, casting a lopsided smile. Spear was her mysterious friend, Flamepaw didn't see her often. But when she did they had the best times. "Oh, and you, of course. You're my friend too."

//hey!!! I have a plot idea for Flame & Cobra & possibly Burntpaw. I'm not sure if you have any plans for him already, but I was hoping I could get your thoughts on it? c:

Cobrapaw jerked a little as she reached out to touch him, and tensed as her tail touched his shoulder. He'd never been one for physical contact, but Flamepaw was gentle. Kind. He didn't mind her motion, it was one of comfort. He couldn't help but hope her positive energy rubbed off on him sometime, her everlasting optimism made him smile a little bigger. "I'm sure."

Cobra listened intently as she explained about Spear- a loner name, and not one he recognized. Hopefully he would meet this Spear soon. It bugged him that he didn't know the person Flamepaw kept mentioning and would probably continue mentioning. Before he could ask about Spear though, the bright feline mentioned him as a friend too. Him. They were friends, and she had said is as casually as the weather. "Oh, yeah. Of course..." The Somali told her with a short laugh, relaxing his body again.

    //I'm game! Whatcha got?

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Noticing his flinch Flamepaw would pull back her tail, hoping she hadn't over stepped his boundaries. Some cats were weird about personal space. It was something she would have to keep in mind, since she wasn't alone anymore. But, she chose not to dwell on it. "So, where did you come from? Before RiverClan, that is." Part of her wondered if Cobra had been a kittypet like herself. At times she felt like her clan mates looked down on her for her soft former lifestyle. Little did they know, it had been anything but.

//So, Burntpaw is crushing on Flame as well. But I like the contrast between Cobra & Flames personalities. So I was thinking, in the future if more becomes of them and they become mates that Flame would screw up and get catnip wasted with Burntpaw accidentally and have kits with him, but she feels guilty and she never tells Cobra for fear of hurting him/ruining things and tries to fix the situation by having kits with Cobra. & it seems foolproof until one of 'their' kits is born looking exactly like Burntpaw. & then the kit finds out who his real dad is and flips out and tries to kill/expose his lying mother maybe joins BloodClan or something like that. I just really want Flamepaw to get caught up trying to save people's feelings because she's so "nice" that it really comes back to bite her, since she's kinda got Mary Sue syndrome at the moment. But hey let me know what you think because I'm open to changes/suggestions/trashing it if you think something's wrong aha <3

He hoped she didn't think he was angry at her for the touch, but just wasn't ready to be embraced or anything yet. Cobra shrugged at her question, unsure really, of the exact location. Most people in RiverClan didn't come from the Clan, and he knew Flamepaw hadn't either. "Just from another part of the forest. Near the Clans enough to have heard of them, but far enough to never be involved in their business. Until now," The Somali answered. If someone had told his kit self that he would be joining a Clan, he would have tried to claw them. Now look at him.

//That sounds great! I've never really had a long-term plot before, so this one would be great! :D

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Ah, so Cobra wasn't a former kittypet. The apprentice felt a little intimidated, she imagined it was hard living in the forest without the help of a Clan. Perhaps this was why the Somali was so serious all the time. Either way, Flamepaw was determined to get him to open up more.

"Then what lead you to join? If you don't mind me asking." Her long white whiskers twitched with curiosity. She could imagine Cobra taking on the world in the forest on his own. But, she couldn't think of why the tom would give that up for Clan life. Not that she was complaining, she was glad he had joined.

//mobile rushed ahh. But oh great I'm glad!! I'll send the plot to Burntpaws person later to see what they thing c:

Her curiousity didn't surprise the apprentice. She didnt know his story and was curious. His history must seem like one of the stories the elders made up for the kits. He lowered his head again, thinking of the snake, running, starving, finding Splinter... His life before this Clan was definitely out of the ordinary, but he wasn't regretting his decision to join.

"I joined after I... Ah, lost my family. I ran into Splinter and we became friends. He led me to join here," Cobrapaw responded, glancing up again. "Without him, I wouldn't be here." And now he was gone. Gone, gone, and without a trace. Cobra sighed. "And you?" That was quite enough about him.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- "Well, I suppose I'll have to thank him when he turns back up." Flamepaw would say, trying to be positive in face of Cobra's story. She wanted to thank the cat who brought her friend to RiverClan. If Splinter had not led the reddish tom to their clan, then Flame would never have known him. The very thought of not knowing Cobrapaw made her sad in a strange way that the apprentice couldn't quite put her paw on.

The ginger she was shaken from her thoughts at the sound of her friends question. Usually, she didn't like talking about her past. When she was asked, Flamepaw would skirt around the truth. The reality of her past was far too painful for her to think about. So, she kept it bottled up. But something about this instant made her feel like she could talk about it. Maybe it was Cobra's calming presence or maybe she just didn't wish to deny it anymore.

"I lived with humans, I guess you could say I was a kittypet." Flamepaw would begin to launch into her story, taking deep breaths to calm herself. "They weren't nice though. Their kits would throw me from things and feed me things that made me sick. It was just bad. So, I left. RiverClan was the first clan I came too." The tabby feline gave a halfhearted shrug before looking at Cobra, her copper hues meeting yellow ones. She didn't want this to be a sob story so she let out a small laugh before speaking again. "I guess I got lucky!"

//ah so sorry for the late reply

Cobra nodded and smiled softly at her words. He was glad for her support, but was curious to her own story as well. She seemed to hesitate, something the Somali wasn't exactly surprised about. His history was simple, while others were often hurtful to speak of. For a moment he didn't even think she was going to say anything until she finally spoke. A kittypet? If it wasn't Flamepaw, he probably would have scooted back a little bit. Even as a loner, kittypets were something he had despised, with their soft and comfortable lives.

But her story wasn't one of comfort and luxury. Cobra's brow furrowed as his newfound friend spilled her short but not at all nice story. That must have been horrible; even a life as a loner was better than abuse. Especially by humans. "Oh... I'm, uh, sorry," He told her with a hint of awkwardness and sympathy, "I guess you did though! We both did."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- The apprentice felt a bit bad for bringing their conversation to a somber tone. Her past wasn't something that typically left one feeling warm and fuzzy inside. But, she still had questions. Flame was gifted with endless amounts of curiosity and Cobra had fascinated her.

"Enough of the sad stuff. What's your favorite color?" The tabby would say, hoping to change the mood to a more light hearted one. She hated when things were sad.

Cobra hadn't really noticed the somber tone; he supposed he was used to it, and didn't mind. However, her sudden change elicited a small laugh out of him. Determined to stay happy, was she? Flamepaw was almost the opposite of himself, yet he felt at ease around her, not at all at odds. "Color? Um... Bronze or copper, I suppose?" He replied. They were simple colors, but it could be shiny as well. "You?"

    //Okey!
