[fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 450px; color: white; font-family: bell mt; font-size: 22pt; text-align: right; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px black;]Avery Adelaide Castor[/fancypost][fancypost borderwidth=0px; border: none; border-top: 1px white solid; width: 430px; color: white; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify; letter-spacing: -1px;][b]NAME Avery Adelaide Castor
NICKNAME(S) As the grounds and keys keeper, Avery doesn't qualify as a professor. She doesn't consider herself one, at least. To younger students, she tends to be dubbed Ms Castor. To older students, Avery. To those she knows well (friends, perhaps, or colleagues) she goes by Lady. Older year students are free to call her any derivative, as long as they are polite about it. Younger students are supposed to stay with Ms Castor, but she will make allowances if they interact more.
NAME MEANING Avery is traditionally a name derived from Alfred. It means "wise": in French, (from aelf, raeld) "ruling with elf-wisdom"; in English, "counsellor". It is also similar to the world 'aviary', as in a habitat for keeping birds.
Adelaide comes from French, meaning nobility. There have been a number of saints and princesses by this name.
Castor comes from greek mythology. Castor was a son of Zeus and the twin brother of Pollux. The constellation Gemini, which represents the two brothers, contains a star by this name.
AGE Avery is 27 years old. In looks she is perhaps a little younger, certainly not older. Mentally she is beyond her years, because of her responsible and serious personality.
BIRTHDATE Avery's birthday lies on the third of December. This makes her a Sagittarius.
GENDER Despite having questioned her gender as a child, Avery remains a cisgender female.
SEX She was born female.
PRONOUNS Only she / her, feminine pronouns.
TEACHER OF Avery is no teacher. Instead, she is the keeper of the grounds and the keys. Sometimes she is called upon to fill in as a teacher, specifically in her better subjects of apparitions, charms and ancient runes. Sometimes she is called on before a lesson to help out with setting up a class or for the best way to use the grounds.
HAS TAUGHT FOR As she is only young, Avery has only taught for two years. She was a graduate of Hogwarts and noted the open position while seeking employment.
HOUSE The sorting hat placed Avery in Ravenclaw, with only a little consideration. The pause was because of her sense of responsibility and her less competitive spirit, while many Ravenclaws will do anything to win.
WAND 12", Holly, Dragon heartstring core.
PATRONUS Spotted owl.
BOGGART Avery's boggart is her father. He is out of her life now and has been for a long time. But for her he represents abuse of power, becoming trapped, not being accepted.
BLOOD STATUS Halfblood. Her mother was a muggle and her father is a wizard.
HAIR Avery's hair is a darker brown. It spirals in loose, larger curls and frizzes when it gets wet or it's humid. She takes slight care of it, but nothing beyond shampoo, conditioner and tying it up. She is content with her hair, neither pleased nor displeased about it. When straightened it reaches to her back, although such a thing is rare.
EYES Avery's eyes are brown. Dark, about the same shade as her hair. Their shape is nothing unusual and is framed by the usual lashes. Often she wears mascara to differentiate, simply because so much of her is brown, when lengthens her eyelashes.
BODY TYPE Avery is averagely sized. She is 5'8" tall and is content with that size. Her build isn't chunky, nor slim. Instead she remains somewhere comfortably in between. She does a fair amount of exercise as part of her job so she is not unfit. Aside from a few jogs, she puts in no extra work to remain so.
BODY MODIFICATIONS Avery has two ear piercing, one in each ear lobe. She also has a number of scars. The most prominent is one that follows the line of her collarbone. She is reluctant to display them, which makes swimwear a no. They were inflicted by her father when she was younger.

PERSONALITY First and foremost, to any casual observer, Avery is reserved. Not keen to chat or participate in small talk, she'll rake her gaze over you, nod, then walk on. Not rude, just conservative. If you strike up a chat, she will reply with short sentences. She is grave, solemn, serious, not given to witty remarks. Unusual for someone from Ravenclaw. Yes, she was in Ravenclaw! Surprise at her house and intelligence is not unusual. She doesn't let it bother her, like most things. Yes, she has a great memory and was always very motivated to chip away at study or homework. She puts in the constant effort. Her hard working nature and commitment gets her there in the end.
She is no young adult rebel, to be certain. Her sense of responsibility and abiding by the rules is tutted at by many younger miscreants. She isn't above doing the right thing for the right reasons, even if it breaks rules. But going to Hogsmeade under-aged or sneaking around after dark is not such a thing. She will tell the offender to return to where they are supposed to be and will not shift from this. If she recalls this, she may tell a superior staff member. She is no tattletail. She will only do so in an appropriate situation.
Her responsibility works on herself, as well as others. She has always held herself accountable for her actions. Some would say she is too hard on herself. Others would say she is too hard on others. Her sense of responsibility always lead to her admitting fault where due in Quidditch, or owning up to a mistake. Mistakes rarely happened twice, because of this accountability.
In private or to a trusted friend or peer, Avery is a little different. She is restless. Often the keeper will set out for a walk or job about the ground. She calls them patrols, but really they're where her restlessness and wish to move on, to get out of being trapped and confined, has become unbearable. Such confidents are rare. Avery is solitary and lonely. Her quarters are apart from everyone, as is her manner. She is not aloof, although some make take it as such. She is just unsure about how to engage and afraid of becoming confined in a relationship (platonic, working or romantic) and having to make a commitment. Such fears can make her prickly. When she is flirted with; prickly. When someone leans over or gets too close; prickly. When an individual is acting particularly macho; prickly. It is her distancing mechanism. She has perfected it ever since she found out about her father.

HISTORY This will be brief, apologies.
Avery was born twenty-seven years ago, in the village of Keelsby. The inhabitants of Keelsby number around 2,172. While growing up she experienced a mixture of the magical and the mundane, with her mother being the latter and her father the former. She got her invitation to Hogwarts, a few years after the signs of magic began to assert themselves. For her mother it was all very exciting and new. Her father never took much interest in her, but this was the one exception. He gave her enough money to buy her gear and some treats in Diagon alley.
The city was a strange place for Avery. She economically rationed her money, buying all she needed. The spares were spent mostly on books -wizarding books!- and the expected sweets. To this day, one of her fondest memories was when her wand choose her. 12", Holly wood with a Dragon heartstring core. Her father had flaunted his thornwood wand about at home, but this was hers. Despite not being one commonly given to excitement, she let out a squeal at platform nine and three quarters. Hogwarts got better and better, despite the crowds and constant noise. She was sorted into Ravenclaw and fit in quietly.
It was later that year that she got the letter. The letter outlining, in blunt terms, that her father got sick of mundane Aberdeen and did away with her brutally. No killing curse. Just an Alarte Ascendare, slamming her into the roof over and over. They'd been arguing and Avery never knew. She knew that her father was the dominant patriarch of the house, but not how far it extended. Crushed, the year dragged on. She didn't go home for any of the holidays. When she had to leave Hogwarts, finally, she stayed with her muggle uncle. All of the wizarding folk she knew were her fathers friends. Somehow she found out more and more about her father. He'd been with another woman before. His wife ran off with their daughter, afraid for their lives. Her father was being punished; she didn't care to learn out how. Her mother had been trapped. Avery had meant her mother couldn't leave.
She recovered, but slowly. Already reserved she became more so. Her cello became more and more worn. Avery got fits of tears when alone. She became more drawn to being alone, became more restless, both drawn and repelled by the wizarding world. She moved on one tortured step at a time. Soon, she passed her OWLs spectacularly, became a keeper for Ravenclaw and graduated. She travelled Europe, unsure what to do.
She received an owl after a few years of travelling. It stated that the keeper of keys and grounds position was open. Still lost for a direction in life, she applied and was accepted.
BIRTHPLACE Born in West Lindsey, a rural area.
PARENTS Aberdeen Clark was Avery's mother, while Merlin Castor is her father.

SEXUALITY Heterosexual, with a romantic preference for male-presenting individuals (it doesn't matter how typically masculine they are, however).
SIGNIFICANT OTHER None. Not particularly interested in having one.
SPOUSE Avery has no spouse. She doesn't want to settle down into a permanent commitment like that. Marriage didn't end so well for her mother, after all.
CHILDREN None and currently reluctant to have any.
FACECLAIM Avery's faceclaim is Alicia Keys.
MUSE My muse is quite high at the moment. Rather then being super active and quick to respond, it seems to have built up into muse. A couple of paragraphs at the very least. I won't give you it in numbers, mostly because I find it hard to rate as such. I'll stick with high muse.
ACTIVITY. Although I check around every day, I don't have time to reply every time I check. School is a bit of a pain, as is my extracurricular activities. I do expect to post around once a day. When I do get time to post, I post a fair few times, so you need not worry about that. The main thing is that I will be present at all the necessary threads.
