  • Mouseflight: *my smile soon disappears and i look just as uneasy as darkfrost did* oh um... *i awkwardly look around for any cat until i notice tigerstripe and snowpaw come back from their training* hey tigerstripe! *i quickly bound over to him and snowpaw, kind of squeezing between them* h-hey tigerstripe, remember that thing you were gonna tell me about? *lowers my voice* that very important thing that's away from here?

Tigerstripe: *raises a brow as i look from him to ebonypaw to him again, lowering my voice* ok...what did she do that was so-- *my eyes round when he mentions shrikeclaw and i look a bit wary* *everything that happened with boulderstar and those two is all still a touchy subject with us all in some way or another* *knows if ebonypaw knows, it won't be a big deal, but if rippletail or slatepaw knew...* *sighs until i finally come to some conclusion* just tell her he was a friend. plain and simple. nothing more and nothing less

Mouseflight: right... *i then awkwardly go back over to ebonypaw, my words rushed, as if i really don't wanna talk about it* *i lower my voice though so only ebonypaw can really hear* oh yeah totally shrikeclaw is just an old friend of darkfrost is all *i then grab a fish, even though i hate fish* this fish looks nice, thanks ebonypaw *i then walk away from there*

Tigerstripe: smooth... *shakes my head as snowpaw and i walk over to the nursery, snowpaw dropping a mouse for foxfur and i lay down a sparrow for linnetcloud* hope this is enough

Dovekit: *my eyes round as i stare at the sparrow before poking and padding at it*

    Foxfur: *purrs* thank you snowpaw

Snowpaw: of course. you have to keep your strength up for those little ones

Foxfur: oh do i *i look down at the three little bundles and ragekit seems to be the most active out of the three*

  • Ebonypaw blinked as her eyes rounded with concern. "Oh dear, did something terrible happen to him?" Her question went unheard as Mouseflight walked away before she could ask it. She frowned, casting a glance towards the warriors den where Darkfrost had gone then went back to grooming her fur dry.

Wheatkit looked excited as Snowpaw dropped the sparrow. His ear twitched, hearing Linnetcloud only murmur a thanks to the white she-cat then poked the prey with his paw. "It looks good!" He squeaked and bounced on his paws. "Did you catch it all on your own?" He asked, looking up at Snowpaw with big curious eyes.

  • Snowpaw: *looks thoughtfully down at wheatkit* yes i did and one day you'll be able to catch one too
Tigerstripe: *i slip out of the nursery and eyes over at rowanstar's den, wondering if i should tell him about all of this or not* *shakes my head and figures it's not too big of a deal as long as that name doesn't spread to other ears*

Darkforst: *the next day, we're back at the river, but today i seem more irritable and easily angered than before, finding wrong in everything ebonypaw is doing* no! what is wrong with you? like this *i hook my paw to make my claws act as a lure as i easily scoop out the fish as i aggressively bite into it* see? that's how you did it *sits down, my fur ruffled* you'll never catch anything bigger than those small things* *i'm trying not to take out my anger for shrikeclaw out on her but after yesterday all those feelings just came back up like a nasty hairball* why do i even bother...

  • Ebonypaw pinned her ears against her head in irritation; she was doing the exact same thing as she was yesterday when Darkfrost had been proud of her, and even now she was trying to imitate what he was showing her now. She glanced to the pile of silvery fish next to her and held back a growl. It's not as though I've done nothing! She thought, increasingly getting more and more annoyed with Darkfrost's current demeanor. Her ear twitched as he mumbled the last part and she couldn't help but to get angry with him. "I have been dealing with your grumpy attitude all day!" She yowled and rose to her paws, tail flicking back and forth crossly. "I am trying my best here and if you've forgotten, I've never done anything like this before; I wasn't born out here like the rest of you were! I don't know what's gotten into your pelt or if there was a thorn in your nest, but there is no need for you to speak to me as such!" She paused a moment, glancing towards the river then back at Darkfrost as hurt flashed in her eyes for a moment. "If you didn't want want to be my mentor, then you should've said something!" Ebonypaw then turned, whisking her tail and started to pick up the fish she had caught, clearly finished fishing, and spending any more time with Darkfrost for the time being.

  • Darkfrost: *i try to hold my tough demeanor while she's yelling at me, but the more she goes on the more hurt and terrible i feel* *my eyes sadden as i watch her go, head hanging low as i blindly watch the fish swim away from me, as if even they are angry at me* *my ears droop as i look behind me, my anger bubbling again but i say nothing as i grab my fish* *i quickly realize she caught all the fish except this one i angrily snatched from the water* *i try to get back to the clan quickly to catch up to ebonypaw, but by the time i do, i see slatepaw comforting her* *despite what she might be telling him, i rush over to the prey pile, dropping the fish and slowly goes over to her* ebonypaw i'm so sorry, i didn't mean-- *regardless of anything i've been through my entire life, the look she gives me just shuts me right up* *my voice gets softer and quieter* just let me explain...

  • Ebonypaw narrowed her eyes as Darkfrost padded over. She gave him a look that was colder than the river in Leafbare then parted her jaws to speak, only to close them a heartbeat later. She turned her nose up at the tom and looked away from him, no longer acknowledging him being there with them.

Slatepaw shuffled his paws awkwardly as he glanced between Ebonypaw and Darkfrost. He touched his tail to her shoulder as he tried to soothe Ebonypaw's anger. He then turned to Darkfrost and tipped his head to the side. "I'm not sure exactly what happened," he meowed as he suddenly felt trapped between two pairs of angry claws. "But maybe you both should just take a break for the day." His fur then spiked with embarrassment, feeling as though he'd spoken out of place. "I mean, if that's alright with Tigerstripe and Rowanstar of course."

  • Darkfrost: *my eyes sadden again as i look from him to ebonypaw* that's probably a good idea... *i walk over to rowanstar's den, not hesitating one bit since i feel we both need time apart* excuse me, rowanstar? sorry to bother you, but i was hoping if you could re-asign ebonypaw a new mentor for a few days *looks away* we both just need a break. i'm sorry to have failed you and her, but i promise i'll be a better mentor to her after this

  • Rowanstar looked up at Darkfrost and blinked with surprise at his words. "If that's what you feel like you need to do," he meowed, a bit curious as to what had happened between him and Ebonypaw. He then frowned a bit. "But you haven't failed anyone, Darkfrost." He said as he rose to his paws, shaking scraps of moss from his pelt. He didn't mention Shrikeclaw directly, afraid to make Darkfrost more upset than he already looked, but Rowanstar knew that he wasn't the reason that the gray tabby had done what he did. "You're a great mentor; I don't think any of us would've even tasted a fish if it weren't for you."

  • Darkfrost: *i mumble something inaudible as i just look up at him, not feeling any better* thanks.. *i then look away again and then looks back at him* would you mind mentoring her for me? i don't know rippletail too well and mouseflight is too awkward to put up with her attitude. just for a few days and i trust you

  • Rowanstar still looked a bit confused; Darkfrost was right about Mouseflight, though Rowanstar was sure the brown tabby would do fine with the right apprentice, and he trusted Rippletail enough after taking care of Slatepaw his entire life. But that's what Darkfrost wants. He told himself and nodded. "Just for a few days," he reassured the black and white tom; he'd hate to take his apprentice from him, after it seemed like they were finally doing well the day before.

  • Darkfrost: *nods as i then walk out, going over to ebonypaw* rowanstar will be your new mentor *i then walk into the warrior's den*

Snowpaw: *i take notice of the little drama between ebonypaw and darkfrost and it's very odd to see the specked tom looking so down* hmm..

Darkfrost: *the next day, i watch as rowanstar takes ebonypaw for training, along with the others, but before reedtail heads off she comes padding over to me* *i give her a look, still trying to be tough, like nothing's wrong*

Reedtail: *i lay my tail on his shoulder* just give her time and after you've both calmed down, just say qhat's really on your mind. i know she'll understand *smiles as i lower my voice* and stop comparing her to shrikeclaw. she's not him as much as you want her to be *i then pat his side before heading back over to slatepaw*

Darkfrost: *i stay silent, too lost in thought*

Ravenkit: *i'm bouncing around the place, acting like i'm hunting but i look more like a frog hopping around* *finally i stop as i crouch down and slowly stalks over to shriveltail's tail, narrating as i go along* and now the fierce and brave ravenkit stalks her unexpecting prey. taking one pawstep at a time before she--pounces! *i spring myself at him, limbs outstretched before landing and clinging to his tail*

  • Rowanstar began to follow Ebonypaw and Slatepaw, who were chatting to each other as they made their way out through the tunnel. He noticed Ebonypaw looking a bit down, though she was obviously trying not to let it show. He paused and waited for Reedtail to join them again before he squeezed out of camp through the brambles.

Shriveltail's ears twitched as he heard Ravenkit sneaking up behind him, mumbling to herself again as she did. He let out a mrrow as she landed on his tail and he turned to her, his eyes narrowed. "Except it wasn't prey, but the tail of a giant dog!" He purred then reared up on his hind paws, stretching his forepaws up into the air. He chuckled as he heard her let out a squeal and he dropped back to all fours.

  • Ravenkit: *my fur fluffs up to make myself look bigger* even if you were a dog, i bet i can take you on! *i charge at him and throws myself at him, playfully biting and pawing at his side*

  • "Me too!" Sootkit cried as he charged over to Shriveltail and his sister. He heaved himself up onto the hefty tom's shoulders and felt him reel as Ravenkit weighed on his side. "Dogs aren't scary!" He puffed as he battered at Shriveltail's ears with his tiny paws. "They're just smelly and dumb!"

Shadekit watched from the edge of camp through narrowed eyes. "Mouse-brains," he mumbled to himself, glancing away as he rolled his eyes and tucked his paws underneath himself. Part of him wanted to join his siblings in their game of attacking the "dog", but he knew that's not what warriors did; Crowstar had told him so.

  • Ravenkit: *that's when i give sootkit a look* you've never even seen a dog. how do you know? *looks up at shriveltail for answers* maybe they look like those foxes

  • Shriveltail shook out his pelt, loosening the kits from his fur. He gave an amused purr when Sootkit landed on his rump with an oof then tipped his head to the side with a thoughtful look. "I suppose they are a bit like foxes." He then looked to the two kits, who were looking up at him with round eyes. "Though, sometimes they're a lot bigger or sometimes they're smaller." A part of him worried that the Ravenkit and Sootkit would be curious about how he knew so much about dogs and that his kittypet roots would be found out, but he pushed it away. "Foxes are pretty easy to chase off, but dogs will almost always chase you."

  • Ravenkit: dogs sound stupid *sticks out my tongue before looking over at sootkit before pouncing on him* you're the dog now and i'm a brave warrior that's going to defeat you!

Lavenderheart: *lately i've been noticing ratear acting more and more unlike himself and we start to grow further apart* *right now i'm out hunting with shrikeclaw, one of the few cats i feel i can really talk to about anything anymore* *i glance around, always fearful of crowstar watching my every move* i wonder how much longer we're going to pretend all of this is ok.. *looks up at him* i love the kits *smiles* even shriveltail's cool, and everyone that came with us *looks down at the ground* but... *looks off in the distance* this isn't our home...*sighs* i just don't see a life for me here *that's when i slowly look up at him, my eyes saddening* not with him as leader at least

  • Sootkit squeaked as Ravenkit landed square on him. "Help!" He squealed and battered at his sister with his hide paws, listening to Shriveltail let out a mrrow of laughter.

Shrikeclaw felt unease creep up his spine as Lavenderheart spoke. He uncomfortably shifted on his paws, unable to look at her sad gaze. He's still my brother, he thought; he knew now that they had been tricked, but Crowstar was still his littermate and Shrikeclaw felt like it was his job to stay with him, just like Laurelsong had done for them. He also realized that Lavenderheart was talking about the pine forest and RowanClan and the silver tabby's heart ached when he thought about how much she wanted to go back and how he could never go with her. He was quiet for a long time before he spoke up. "You can go back, you know," he meowed softly, gazing at his paws as he trudged along beside her. "We'll be okay."

  • Lavenderheart: *i then give him this look, hard to read* i could...and it would be really easy to sneak off again *i then find myself just staring at the silver tabby before looking awkwardly away* but i can't. i need to try and protect my brother and i just....can't leave. not yet. Not without you*i then start to walk back to where we buried our fresh kill as i sadly think back to my interaction with darkfrost* besides...even though this place isn't home, it kind of feels like it because *i look up at him before getting all flustered and looks away* you know because reasons

  • Shrikeclaw held back a sigh of relief, feeling better that he would still be together with Lavenderheart, at least for the time being. “Well good,” he meowed and gave her shoulder a friendly nudge. “Because it’s fun having you here for reasons too.”
