[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]Kevin never responded, due to the fact the house phone of mine started to ring. A small groan left my lips because Myra started to run to the bathroom just as Kevin left. Myra ended up going back to her movie and her food when she saw Kevin had gotten the phone. I took this chance to get finished showering and got out after turning the water off, drying off quickly and dressing. I adjusted the way my shirt stuck to my skin, which felt odd because I didn't dry off properly. I pulled my wet locks back with my brush before pulling the red strands into a braided bun on top of my head. After making sure I wasn't soaking myself due to my wet hair, I adjusted the way my sweats hung off my hips, and left the bathroom to go see who was on the phone.

"It's Grace," I said, handing the phone to Ayo when she came out from her room. I was done talking with Pete, so Grace had taken the phone back while Pete went upstairs with Natalie to her room. When Ayo affirmed she had the phone in her possession on the other line, Grace informed her that they were still waiting for a call from the sheriff about what was going to happen to me and Pete. So far, they'd found nothing. "What I don't understand," she said, her voice barely betraying her confusion. "Is how they could live for so long out there...It's beyond me."

"Is how they could live for so long out there...It's beyond me."I nodded when Kevin said who it was and when I was handed the phone, I stated whom I was just so Grace knew. As she spoke I listened quietly; nothing was heard from the sheriff yet. I stared ahead when she continued, sounding rather perplexed as she did. My end of the phone was silent for a few minutes. "Well, depending on how they were raised before they were inside the forest, they could have had the knowledge to survive. If they didn't then by God it certainly is a miracle they survived, especially as long as they did. Kevin here told me not too long ago he was about eleven when he first remembered getting into the firest with Pete, which puts him at my age. If this is true, isn't there some way to track any missing persons? Perhaps they have family somewhere close? And if not, Kevin shouldn't need foster care nor should Pete, considering Kevin will legally be old enough to claim him as his own child." As I rambled on, I listened for my niece though she was curled on the coach watching her movies still, cuddling the stuffed bear I made her oh so many years ago. I looked briefly at Kevin as I listened and waited for whatever Grace had to say in response.
[/fancypost] -
"I guess..." Grace said, not sounding very convince. A ring on the other line ended further conversation, however, and she said a quick goodbye and hung up, leaving neither Grace or I much the wiser. But the part about foster care I understood enough about to feel worried. As far as we knew, our parents had been our only living relatives. What if they took us away, and apart, regardless of how old I was? I cringed - no, I couldn't fathom being separated from Pete, much less than being separated from Branch, or Pete from Elliot. "What if there is no one else?" I asked Ayo, frowning.

[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]I looked at my hands after putting the phone down, calculating the weeks till my own birthday. I wouldn't be eighteen for another three weeks. I couldn't legally adopt either boy until then. My eyes softened with understanding and fear until I looked back at him. "I won't let them split you two up nor will I let anything happen to Branch or Elliott. I will do anything to keep you lot together." I said in a serious fashion as I turned to look at him fully. "I may not be old enough to adopt you two for another three weeks, but perhaps Grace can hold onto Pete and I can you until you are eighteen. I am certain if I asked my older brother he'd step up to take legal custody over you both till you're eighteen and stable enough to provide for Pete." I was already running the numbers on how successful this idea would be. It had a fifty/fifty chance of going good or bad.
[/fancypost] -
"You lost me after legal custody. Whatever that is," I said, some of my humor returning, despite my anxiety. I did understand enough about what Ayo was telling me to have some mixed feelings, though it was probably for the best. Still... "Aren't we already adopted? Branch and Elliot did raise us for six years. Even if they are dragons, I'm sure that would still count. They're people, too...in a way."

[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]I shook my head at his words. "The government doesn't see them as people. They don't even think they exist. I've stopped telling people of me seeing a dragon because I was losing the image I worked so hard to build in this town. Things aren't so sweet everyday, Kevin. Things now run the way the government wants for you two, which is why we're going to keep you a secret. I. Can easily say you're family visiting and easily make up everything needed until you're old enough to take custody over your beother." I sighed, rubbing my temples. "I wish it were as easy as you think."

"So basically, I have to pretend to be something I'm not, and discredit something that is, even though people don't believe in it," I summarized, irritation coloring my voice. With a sigh of exasperation, I sank into the couch, noting that it was comfortable enough, for something that wasn't a nest of leaves and grass. "Life was SO much more simpler in the woods," I said, somewhat depressed towards the problems that had now appeared before me. I grabbed the pillow cushion nearest to me and buried my face into it, not really wanting Ayo to see me vent my frustration.

[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]The words he said only made me sigh with a bit of a frown. After all, that is true. "I'm sorry." I said in a genuine manner, turning away from him to go brush my curly, tangly mess of hair. Myra was asleep where she was on the sofa watching her movie and I needed to get her in her room before she woke up again, if she were to. Mostly because I didn't like her out there in the living room without me while she was asleep. I left Kevin there, sending his frustration; I didn't want to be around when he was frustrated. We already were on rocky terms though we just met... We just met. How could he or I love each other? We hardly know each other!

After I had let loose the majority of my steam, only then did I take the pillow away. Looking around, I saw that Myra and Ayo had gone; Ayo must've been putting her to sleep. The logical thing to do was to go outside, rather than being inside and making a ruckus. Branch was waiting for me outside as I came down the steps, laying out across the lawn like a dog waits for his owner. "Hey, big guy. It's been a weird day, hasn't it?" I asked, talking more to myself than to him as I rubbed his snout. This wasn't our territory, figuratively speaking; we belonged in the woods. It was home.
But Ayo kept intruding on my thoughts. Our discussion of our attraction was still floating around, waiting to be brought back up. Ayo felt it, I felt it, but whereas I was convinced we could fit, Ayo was sure we could not. Nothing made sense.

[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]Leaving my niece's room, I sat in the empty living room, changed now into something more appropriate for bed. Not that a pair of woman's boxers and a sports bra and a t-shirt that was my older brother's was very appropriate, though it worked for me. I sat back on the sofa and removed the plugs I insisted to wear, putting them in a drawer in the coffee table before attempting to relax. The sounds of a classic movie started playing and I only glanced at the tv to see what it was, chuckling softly to myself before returning to trying to relax. The day was far more hectic than normal, and definitely far more emotionally driven. I couldn't really think of a way to keep Kevin and Pete together without having them split up for a short time nor could I figure out what to do about Branch and Elliott roaming the forest.I just sighed and forced myself to sink into the soft cushions of my couch, eyes closed, hands behind my head and my feet on the coffee table, crossed at the ankle. And then there was the thing with Kevin. How could he possibly think we fit together when we just met? It's the animal instinct you two have. Animals know when they've found their mate. My mental self said again, but my logical side was having none of it. How could that even be possible? I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
[/fancypost] -
For a while, Branch and I were perfectly content with lying on the grass and looking at the stars. Eventually, however, my big winged friend's stomach called for a refill, which meant he was going to have fly off, like he usually did when he and Elliot were finding food for us in the woods. I never minded, but after today, his company was sorely needed. Nevertheless, I let him go, and I watched him wing into the sky, feeling a little more alone than ever. Which wasn't exactly true - I knew I could go and see Pete whenever I wanted to. But still...

[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]The rumble of a vehicle on the gravel leading towards my house sounded down the road, my ears didn't pick up on it. I was currently staring at the report Grace filed with the police regarding the brothers we found, I had no idea I was getting a visit from my brother. Steven pulled up into the front of the house, turning the headlights off on his truck and stepping out. He looked over to Kevin who still laid on the grass and his face lit up. "Hello!" He called, smiling at him. He was the spitting image of our father, except Steven was a brunette like Mama and Papa was a red head like myself. His normal scruff was freshly shaven and it looked like the lumberjack/butcher had just returned from work. "You must be Kevin. I'm Steven, Ayodele's older brother. I heard from Nikki and Lance you were here? They said you were with Del when she picked if Myra and I figured you would still be here. Uh. Do you mind if we go inside and talk with Del? I know this is all sudden, if you don't want to come I don't mind. I just came over to talk to my sister." Steven's green gaze looked hopeful he would join, but by this time I was standing on the porch, leaning on the supporter beam, looking like Kevin and I had had some fun under the sheets with the way I was dressed. I had put my hair up in a messy bun to keep it from my face and motioned both of them to follow without a word, glaring at my older sibling when we were seated in the family room. "You don't have to stay in here, Kev. I think my brother only wants to get more info on what's going on. I assume you already talked to Grace?" Steven just nodded over his coffee and I leaned back into the sofa, sitting cross legged on the furniture.

[/fancypost]//Couldn't help yourself, could ya XD?
I had jumped a little when Steven had pulled into the driveway, but by the time he'd introduced himself and established his sibling connection to Ayo, I was assured of his good nature. I was about to politely decline joining, but then decided against it as he seemed hopeful that I would, and Branch would not be back for a while, it seemed. Plus, it would be weird if I said I was waiting for a friend. So I followed them in, staying in the kitchen area and sitting down at the table while I let them talk.

[fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]ooc: you know me all too well xDIc: I rolled my neck, sighing deeply. "You came over to talk to me and Kevin. For what? You know I can't keep him here long. You also know I'm in no position to adopt anyone." I said in a defeated tone. "I came by to see how you two were doing. Lance and Grace said y'all looked edgy near each other, and judging by the plugs I just watched you put in, I think I get why." Steven looked over to Kevin and then back at me before taking another sip of his coffee. I personally didn't drink coffee, but always had it on hand for those who did. I looked towards the kitchen where Kevin sat and leaned forward to look at my brother. "As much as I don't mind another person here, it's different with Kevin. I don't know how to explain it, but whatever it is he is like a drug to me. I can't go through my own house without smelling his scent, it's driving me insane, okay? And from what I saw earlier, it is doing the same to him." I explained the reasoning behind the nose plugs. Steven just minded slowly, humming in thought. "Give me a week and I'll get my place ready for him to go there. I'll see what I can do about Pete, but I don't know if I can take them both. Kevin will certainly be closer to his brother then. I'll come back in a week, just make sure he's ready to go." He said, standing up to hug hme. "And next time don't look like you just had fun in the sheets. It's a little off putting, okay?" He teased as I looked back down at what i was wearing. "These are my pajamas you prick!" I laughed, following him out the house. "Whatever reason you're not letting him stay with you, put it behind you, alright? I see that boy cares about you. Let him, and let yourself do the same towards him." I just waved goodbye as my brother pulled out the driveway after he was in his car. I just stood there as he disappeared into the forest, heading back the way he had come before slowly going inside, removing the plugs.
