    [font=trebuchet ms]{{ I was tempted to make it, "Minnie actually looks nice" AU, but there are times when she'll try to make herself look decent. And then- well, you'll see. c; }}

Neatly-groomed long fur, slimmed down against her back and the fur on her belly tugged to hide behind her awkward limbs. Yellow eyes danced with uncertainty, but otherwise she appeared to be well. Striding out early morning, once exposed to the dull gray morning light, one would note she also removed all dirt and clumps of her nest out of her fur. Was she trying to impress someone? Feel better? Whatever the reason, she didn't look half bad. Of course, she wasn't the most attractive in the clan, and still had a tiny bump on her stomach from her feeding habits, but it was hardly noticeable with her fur.

    Something... was weird. Maybe?

Minnowpaw made her way out of camp when she noted not a lot of people were up, not even mentally checking if she would be fine with the consequences later. The short apprentice would make her way to the river, as per usual, but this time she would walk along the shore until she came up to a patch of reeds. Minnie wasn't aware of anyone watching her, and so she would lurch forward, swinging a heavy paw at them and causing them to bend quickly at the swipe.

She seemed... almost satisfied with the force of the impact, smiling softly before looking to the water, seeing some silver flash by. It was too early for her to try hunting, even if she felt good for the day. She knew her limits, and hunting fish wasn't exactly her strong suit. But, voles and rodents were a different matter.

Now, why would she try to look good for the day? Simply, she remembered this would have been her old mentor's birthday. She didn't want to be seen by anyone lest they asked her why she wasn't still asleep with a ruffled pelt, not wanting to explain the situation to anyone. She just wanted... to have a day of peace. To try and work on her fitness for this day before returning to her usual routine before they eventually gave her a new mentor.

Why wasn't Sandstep away from the river? Shouldn't he be terrified of it by now? He nearly drowned in it, even. Well, the warrior was reckless and didn't like to shy away from things. That's why he would be heading to the river right now, wanting to face his fears of the watery depths.

He stepped through the trees and laid eyes on an unfamiliar female. She looked stunning, and her fur was flawless. Who was she? The tom had to know.
Putting on his signature smirk, Sandstep would slick his fur back and stroll up to Minnie's side, saying, "Hey there. I don't believe we've..." He trailed off, noting the cat's facial features and eyes. She was all too familiar, and now that he thought about it, her unique scent was flooding his nostrils. "M..Minnowpaw?" Sandstep stammered, folding his ears in embarrassment for trying to make a move on her.

He didn't tend to flirt with her; she seemed more like a friendly figure than someone that he would want to engage with. Although, she did look stunning today.

Jealous of the attention fish-brained Minnie was getting--the attention she deserved!--by Sandstep. With a forceful smile, the apprentice licked her chest fur a few times before approaching the two, aiming to put herself in front of Minnie so that the tom would be looking at her instead of the other she-cat. "Hey, Sandstep," she purred, batting her eyes. "What're you up to?" She wanted him to look at her. She was prettier, firstly, and and she worked for it. She was positive Minnie had happened to wake up well-groomed; it wasn't like she actually put effort into her appearance, as she did each day!

  • [size=8]Lichenpaw was much too young for romance, and he barely realized what was going on as he bounded towards Minnowpaw, Charlotte, and Sandstep. He debated interrupting, but decided against it when he saw the look on Charlotte's face. Instead he jumped up onto a rock close by and gazed down into the water, swiping at its surface hopefully. He could see the minnows right there! Why couldn't he get them? "Frog-dung!" the flame point hissed unhappily. Would he ever learn? Would he ever be a good hunter? It failed to occur to him that he had only just gotten his apprentice name; he didn't even have a mentor yet! He had time to learn how to fish, and to fight, and to learn all those warrior things. It just didn't feel like that, as he sat there, pawing ineffectually at the river.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0pt;] Lavender was sure she could compliment someone without seeming like she was flirting. Afterall, she wasn't gay(she didn't think?), and if her life continued on the path it was then she wouldn't be allowed to have a mate anyway. And friends could compliment friends, right? Was that what they even were? Friends? "You look really pretty!" Lavender exclaimed, albeit after a moment of silence to gain the courage in speaking.

The tom had given up on attempting to sleep, and now had given up on his relaxation. There were too many cats out, too many vibrations. He wondered what was up?

Lifting his long neck, his blue eyes stared curiously across the water. It was Minnie, causing the ruckus, her fur combed beautifully and shimmering in the sun. She seemed embarrassed by the attention, even like she wanted to be alone, but the tom couldn't help himself to say something. "Yeah, you look lovely, lass!" he called.

[font=trebuchet ms]The first voice was enough to almost send her off-balance, but she quickly would have turned to look at Sandstep with an expression that held mostly confusion, but a good trace of amusement. "I-I'm... pretty sure we've met." She replied with a faint, awkward, stifled laugh, unsure if she should accept any compliments or just brace herself for any thrown her way. She took a step back as a certain female made her way in between.

No, Minnie wasn't mad. Actually, she found herself about to step away from the two "lovebirds" before almost running into the rock Lichenpaw was on. She didn't recall seeing the apprentice before, but then again, she had a pretty bad memory when it came to names. "Heh, they're always difficult to catch." She stated aloud, smiling politely before turning her head to Lavenderpaw.

She hadn't met the female personally, but knew her medical abilities were amazing compared to most. "Oh, h-hey Lavenderpaw. I- Hahah, no, not-" Before she could finish her embarrassed ramblings, Quiet Lark would have also happened by and complimented her. The gray-furred apprentice shook her head in silent disagreement, even sitting back on her haunches and waving her front paws upfront of her dismissively. "I-I'm not- Not that nice. Just a four-moon thing, y'know?" Her tone quickly altered to a mumble, to where she was unsure if the tom would even be able to sense her voice over the river's vibrations.

  • [size=8]Lichenpaw had given up on the minnows and turned round to face the people complimenting one of the many unfamiliar faces; an eye-catching silver she-cat who reminded him at once of the fish he'd been failing to catch. He grinned bashfully. "Yeah, I can't get 'em." the flame point tilted his head to the side. "Hey, what's your name? I'm Lichenpaw!" the way he subtly emphasized '-paw' and puffed out his chest, combined with the lingering hints of kitten-fluff on his belly and tail and overall youthfulness, made it clear that he had only very recently become an apprentice. Blue eyes drifted over the rest of the RiverClanners and he gave them all cheery smiles, inquiring, [b]"Who are you all?"

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 400px; text-align: justify; letter-spacing: -1px; word-spacing: 2px; line-height: 117%;][ ★ ★ ] At Lichenpaw's voice, Charlotte made her way over, a small smile on her muzzle. She had always had a soft spot for kits, even if this one was an apprentice now. He still had that squeaky voice, that notorious kitten fluff, the curiosity and liking for adventure-- It almost made her purr, and she would have if Minnie hadn't been there.

"I'm Charlotte," she meowed. "What's your name?" She didn't recall seeing him before.

[font=trebuchet ms]"I'm Minnowpaw, though everyone calls me Minnie. It's a pleasure to meet a strong apprentice like you Lichenpaw." She smiled, finding a bit of amusement in how he seemed so proud. Of course, she could understand the feeling since she was only two moons older than him, but she felt like she was much older. Minnie pushed Charlotte's response out of her head, making a bit more space between them by taking a few steps away from the river. Nothing was going to spoil her mood today, especially not someone who wasn't worth the fish she ate.

  • [size=8]"Lichenpaw!" he declared happily, thin tail waving about his head. He was proud of his name; he thought that lichen was a cool word and he liked to spot it whenever he left camp. Though he often wondered why his mother had named him after it, it was part of him now, and he wouldn't dream of changing it. Currently, however, his mind was fixed on her name - Charlotte? "Sharlet?" he repeated, a frown coming over his face. "What's a Shar? You don't look like a warrior! You should be Sharpaw!" he had just finished speaking to the marbled silver tabby when Minnowpaw spoke up. He giggled, both at her compliment and at her perfect name. "I like your name! It's fitting!"

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor=transparent;][hr][hr]

[font=trebuchet ms]More compliments? Looking nice was getting tiring quick. Warmth once more touching her features and tone, she'd wave a paw again, not bothering to hide her embarrassed expression. "O-Oh, thank you. I-I guess you have m-my parents to thank for that." She let out a small bit of laughter once more, though this was also directed towards his "apprentice name" for Charlotte. "S-She was a kittypet before she j-joined RiverClan, a-and she decided to keep her name."

  • [size=8]Ohhh, well, that made sense. "Ohh. Maybe she should be Charlottepaw?" that would work, right? It was just unheard of to the young color point to not have a traditional name. He picked a flea from his shoulder and then asked, [b]"Do you think my name is fitting? Do you like it? I like it. Lichenpaw is an awesome name. I wonder what my warrior name will be...Lichenclaw! Lichenstrike! Lichenleap!"

[font=trebuchet ms]"Yeah, I think it's f-fitting. I heard lichen can be quite strong, after all." She let off a toothy smile, obviously doing her best to hand him compliments. "Names, h-huh... Normally the l-leader chooses it, but Lichenstrike sounds cool." A purr sounded faintly in her throat as she pondered other names that could be picked for him, at one point thinking about her own name as well.

His ears swiveled forwards as he heard chattering across camp. Everyone was having a nice time over there, it seemed. A tiny lump became existing in his throat, his ears burning with jealousy. He wanted to be apart of the conversation. Walking over, he smiled, beginning his sentence, "Hey the-" before he tripped over a small pebble. His ears were now boiling hot, an embarrassed expression overcoming his face. "I'm okay!" Berrykit blurted, sitting up and facing towards Minnowpaw and those she was talking to. "Hi, I'm Berrykit! How are y'all doing today?" His words came out quickly, and the "y'all" was barely noticeable. A complete fail to at least be decent was put into that day.

[font=trebuchet ms]The best part about Minnie was the fact that she was shorter than a lot of the apprentices, occasionally even the newly-deemed ones. Sometimes she wondered if her shorter height made it more likely for younger felines to approach her, which was entertaining in itself. Looking to Berrykit as they started to approach and nearly fell over, she felt her haunches raise to rush over and help before he caught himself, and she relaxed once more. "Hey Berrykit, I'm Minnowpaw, though people call me Minnie. And I'm d-doing fine." A smile followed soon after she spoke.
