[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; overflow: auto; width: 300px; height: 100px; border: 0px transparent; color: white;]This was it. He'd had enough. It was time for Aster to learn how to swim. With a gulp, the male took a few steps toward the water's edge, fear coursing through his veins. If he couldn't get back to shore, there would be no one to save him like he had saved Summerkit. He could die. Shaking his head as if to clear the thoughts that swirled around in it, the ebony canine dipped a paw in. Mentally cussing upna storm, Ast stuck another paw in the water. It was cold as f*ck.

Taking a deep breath and gathering his nerve, the apprentice put all four paws in the water. THAT was a huge mistake. He slipped on some of the mud underneath his paws, claws scrabbling for purchase on the slippery shallow-water rocks. When he finally managed to gain back his footing, the male sighed in relief. Time to try this again. Backing up to a ranfom tree, Ast took a running start, leaping quite gracefully into the cold water.

D*mn, it was freezing! As the cold enveloped his body, he felt weighed down by his fur. Legs flailing in all directions, the canine made his way back. Halfway to shore, he stopped. He had seriously just swum almost all the way across the rushing river, if one took the distance he jumped out and combined it with the distance he came back, all the while fighting the current.

But he wasn't home free yet. He still had a couple feet to go before he made it to the riverbank, where he planned on kissing the ground and promising never to leave it again.

Tadashi smiled as he saw this, making his way over. He had given a few swimming lessons for RiverClan so he could easily supply some tips. "You're almost there!" Tadashi cheered, eyes bright with enthusiasm. He stood at the riverbank, eager for Asterpaw to make it back by himself.

  • [justify]Was this what Riverclanners did all day, swim? From the looks of things so far, it seemed like a daily activity. But, perhaps if this was a daily thing, someone would teach him as well. After all, he didn't know how to swim. His father had lived here once, so he had to have some sort of genetics or whatever you called it that gave him a bit of a headstart, even if it would be his first time and all. Padding over silently, Rory would for now curiously watch through his golden gaze, speechless in the current situation.

With a smug look did the doberman watch the male swim through the water as she appeared at her clan mate's side. Flux was a rather good swimmer, but she would only swim if the situation called for it. Running was were she got her thrills and decided to leave the water for Asspaw. Taking a seat did the girl watch. "You can do better than that! Hurry up," called out the girl in a stern tone.

[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; overflow: auto; width: 300px; height: 100px; border: 0px transparent; color: white;]Aster didn't look at the tiger when he heard the deputy approach, but knew who it was just by the sound of Tadashi's voice. With the encouragement from the older male, his spirits lifted and he paddled even harder, the current no longer such a hinderance. But he immediately frowned when he heard the one person he could go his entire life without seeing ever again--Magneticflux. He growled back to her, "Shut the hell up." Ast ignored what she had said to do; it was his second time swimming and he'd rather not drown, thank you very much.

With his harder kicks, the apprentice was in the shallows where he had stepped in at first, except a little father down the riverbank. The current had pushed him that far. After slipping and sliding some more on the rocks and mud, the Belgian Shepherd made it to dry land, sopping wet, and instantly dropped onto his stomach right in front of Tadashi, Magneticflux, and Rory, pretending to kiss the dirt. Sure, dirt was going to be matted into his underbelly fur, but he really didn't care at the moment. He'd just swum the distance across the river! He'd still have to practice his swimming, of course, but at least his hydrophobia was somewhat quelled. "I made it...thank god..." he murmured, looking up at the others.

((Was thinking about making him get swept away, but didn't want to be cliché))

  • [align=center][fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px; width: 400px;][font=arial][justify][size=8]"Good job!" Amberheart said cheerily as she approached, giving Asterpaw a small smile. She walked just a few feet past the others, letting out a grunt when she hoisted herself onto a rock right by the riverbank that seemed like a promising place to sunbathe and let the river brush against her toes when she stuck them out occasionally while she stretched. She lay on the rock, tail lashing slightly as she let out a small sigh. Her bright emerald gaze lifted up to meet Asterpaw's once more. "Keep practicing and you'll be an expert." She remembered when she was younger, going out to the river to practice swimming everyday. It used to be one of her favorite activities, but now... Now she just liked to nap. And eat sometimes. If she ever were to go out swimming again, she'd probably have to start practicing like crazy like the old days. Now she'd probably be kinda rusty at it. But that didn't matter now! Now was sunbathing o' clock, and she didn't want to waste any more time than she should thinking about old memories.

Closing her eyes, the Maine coon hummed to herself quietly, shifting her weight every once in a while as the sun shone down on her glossy brown pelt.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=; width: 420px; margin-top: -6px;][justify][size=8][color=white]The puppy noticed a small crowd forming by the river bank, so she walked over, her little golden tail wagging. "[color=plum]Now that you, uh, somewhat know how to swim, we should totally race!" she giggled, smiling brightly at the fellow canine. "[color=plum]We can go in the shallows if you want!" she compromised, gold ears perked up.

[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; overflow: auto; width: 300px; height: 100px; border: 0px transparent; color: white;]The male cast Ambereart a genuine smile. He was glad the female thought he was doing good; Megneticflux sure acted like she didn't. But when he heard Victoria, he smiled even wider. "Let's do it!" He replied just as enthusiastically, his tail wagging.
