Her parents and the neighbors were standing outside, talking as they planned to do their yearly search for the neighbor's missing baby. They'd pretty much given up hope after sixteen years but they did it anyway.
-
She walked up at them, smiling
-
They glanced at her, "Hey Kass. Don't suppose you fancy joining us this year?" Her dad asked her
-
bump
-
She shook her head, " No thank you... sorry though."
-
They nodded and looked at their neighbors, "One day, I promise you we will find Dustin." Her mother said and the neighbor woman, the lost child's mother tried to smile then they left to search
-
" Dustin?" She mu.bled, more time herself
-
Late that night, her parents returned home, having no luck again this year
-
She watched him
-
They came inside, "nothing. The child has to be dead, it's been too long." Her mother said sadly, seeing Kass watching them
-
" I'm sorry..., " She mumbled softly
-
"I don't know what happened. He just disappeared one night, when he was a baby and there was no sign of a break in. His parent's were right downstairs as well." Her mother said
-
She glanced away
-
She shook her head and followed her husband up to bed, tired as she always was this day
-
She went to bed as well
-
The next day, Dusty sat on a tree branch, waiting for her much to the annoyance of not only his piskies, but his entire faery family. A few satyrs and a nixie were all trying to get him to leave the entrance of the park and come back to the middle with them. They called out a few dangerous games that they could play, which had always worked before but this time, he was more interested in his first human companion.
-
She went to him that morning
-
He climbed down the tree and approached her, "hey Kass." He said and the faeries slowly dispersed, except his three piskies and they all seemed annoyed
-
" H-Hey," She mumbled softly
