  • his occupation was one considered dangerous and taboo to many. throughout the night, he worked in a district dangerous to normal day-goers. the scent of musky sandalwood and roses filled the air of this particular parlor, one whose main goal was to entertain women customers. all of the staff consisted of young boys to older gentlemen, each having their own clientele that enjoy their company. women will pay a certain sum to spend a few hours with a gentlemen as he whispers sweet nothings into her ear and charm them with their talents.

kal, an experienced worker of this particular parlor, has seen many women alike and feels as if this is just daily routine. a visit from one particular girl is enough to pique his curiosity, and he finds it more enjoyable than he thought.

the summer heat of the day was beginning to cool slightly as the sun set beyond the trees surrounding the well known village. many night owls began to emerge from their houses, the paper lanterns lighting up the streets. shops and vendors open up their stands to the population of women rushing in through the now open gates.

in the heart of a red hued parlor, men ran around in chaos, trying to set up their own belongings to welcome the customers. the actual parlor would not yet open for another hour, giving kal enough time to wallow in his leisure activity to reading. propped on a pillow, he thumbed through the pages of a classic novel in his own room decorated and tidied for any woman that would perhaps like to visit his quarters and spend some time in there.

sweet sake was displayed on most tables around the hallways and in rooms. sighing, kal placed down his book and leaned against the wooden walls of the room, appreciating the soft glows of candle light.

  • yes, of course! just put your name, age, appearance, description and anything else you'd like me to know : )

  • Skylar Bloom
    21
She is a strong confident girl and doesn't let anyone bring her down. She tries to keep her feelings to herself and doesn't let them get in the way of what needs to get done. She can be sweet, caring, protective and loyal if you are on her good side. If you get to her bad side she can be manipulative, cruel, harsh, violent and secretive. She is hard on trusting people. She is quiet mature but has her moments of immaturity. Her eyes light up when she gets into a deep conversation with someone or when she is looking at something or someone she loves. Sky is pretty down to earth and very open minded. She can be very negative and rude sometimes and is very stubborn. She has a set way on how she wants her life to go and hates when things don't go right. She is impatient and exact. She is kind of awkward and isn't too sociable. She asks lots of questions and is very curious which sometimes gets her into trouble. Sky isn't afraid of a lot of things and doesn't scare easily. Sky isn't afraid to hit back, physically and verbally, growing up with three older brothers she learned how to fight back both ways easily.

  • yes, your character can be a woman new to the parlor, or perhaps a regular customer that sees my character and is interested/(not interested at first but begins to open up)

the plot line follows a certain village in the orients that is only open and active at nighttime. few men come because most of the business offered in this village deals with entertaining women and such. women can visit some parlors alone or with friends to relax and simply talk to other men out of socializing.

a certain parlor, in which kal works at, is known to be one of the main on the street. your character visits that parlor, out of wanting to try it out or just returning there for another night of amusing activities with some of the gentlemen. there you can meet kal : >

  • Ok that sounds good

Skylar stood in front of the gates that had opened watching women walk in and a few walk out. Her friends had convinced her that it would be something fun to try. She never got out much or did much and her friends told her she was too up right and needed to loosen up. She didn't want to be there but promised she would go. Sky took a deep breath before walking in. She was slow as she let her eyes scan her surroundings. She didn't know what to expect so she didn't give herself high hopes. She noticed how happy all the women seemed to be as they walked around either alone or with friends. Sky intertwined her fingers in front of her as she kept going. She walked back and forth just to see everything before making her way back to the front. She looked over when one of the parlors caught her attention. She stopped and looked up at it with curiousity. "Well here goes nothing." She mumbled to herself once she decided to try it out. She slowly made her way in as her eyes wandered. Sky bit her lip as she stopped once she was inside. She was nervous and it was evident of her face. Her eyes then landed on a striking man leaning against one of the walls.

  • 'welcome young miss,' a taller gentleman robed in a bright kimono stepped into view, seemingly the man who worked the front desk. blocking the view of kal, he grinned and encouraged the new guest to walk further into the parlor that was now tranquil and slightly lucid.

'how my we be of service to you today? we have a wide variety of gentlemen here that you may choose from. look around, and tell me if any of them catch your attention.' the man gestured with his arms and hands to the many young men walking by with tea in hand or scholarly books.

kal perked up once he had heard the manager speaking to another guest. he quickly scuttled from the place on the wall to further in his room, placing a few of his things in order before leaning against his door in curiosity.

  • Skylar's eyes snapped to the man who spoke and stepped up to the desk. She smiled shyly and moved closer. She looked around at the men once more seeing the man who was leaned against the wall lean against the door frame. Her eyes watched him for a moment before dragging to the man at the front desk who spoke to her. "Well, I have never been here before. My friends told me to try it, they say I need to let loose and relax. I don't really know what to look for." She spoke honestly and embarrassed. Sky hated trying new things, especially alone. She smiled shyly once more at the man at the desk. "Could you maybe help me on my decision? I dont know what type of man would work best with an 'uptight girl who needs to loosen up' girl like me." She asked cautiously. She really didn't know what to do and she was slightly scared but excited at the same time.

  • the man at the front bore a thoughtful expression, gazing around the establishment before thinking aloud. 'ma'am, if this is your first time with us, then i would recommend nothing more than tea and a chat with our top gentleman here. however, seeing that there was an incident involving our number one, then we'll have you signed up with the runner up. kal should be around here somewhere.'

looking around, he spotted the pristine creme colored kimono that kal wore as he slightly stepped towards the woman and manager at the front.

the manager waved him over, and kal bowed politely to the both of them, a small smile on his lips. his gaze rested on the young woman as he took in her western features opposed to his own eastern heritage. it was not everyday that a guest with such complexion visited.

    kal was slightly intrigued.

'kal should be able to take care of you tonight. whenever you feel your time is finished or if you'd like to leave, just come back to this front desk and you can pay here. enjoy.' with a smile, the manager ushered her to follow kal.

turning on his heel, kal walked towards one of the attendants, telling them to deliver tea to his room. his feet then carried him to the corridor where his door was opened slowly, revealing the soft red and orange glow form the lighting.

  • Skylar bit her lip as she watched the man at the front desk look around at the men. Her eyes landed on the man that had been leaning on the door. She glanced at the tall man who spoke and watched as the man she looked at, Kal, walk over to them. She smiled softly at him before returning her gaze to the man who spoke again. Sky nodded her head at his words. She looked to Kal who started to walk away, she hesitated but followed. She felt nervous as she followed him to his room. She saw the orange red light come from the room as the door was slowly opened. She followed Kal into the room closely.

  • kal was silent as he prepared the tea on a wooden table, two plush cushions situated on the floor for them to sit on. he poured the steaming jasmine tea into the ceramic cups, watching as the steam rose to the ceiling in tiny gray swirls.

'please, have a seat.' kal pointed towards the seat on the floor as he put away the tray containing the instruments needed to make the hot drink. the buzz of the workers running about outside was muffled slightly once kal closed the door.

  • Skylar watched him in silence as he made the tea. She snapped her eyes to him when he spoke. She looked over to the seats on the floor an nodded her head. She walked over and sat down, she crossed her legs and intertwined her fingers together once more. Sky looked up at Kal watching his hands as he cleaned up. She didn't say anything and her eyes moved from him around the room. She knew the man at the front desk simply said it would be just tea and talking but she couldn't help but think that there was more to it.

  • kal bowed respectively to her once more before getting on his knees and sitting on across from her. he gently kept his eyes focused on the tea as it separated from the rest of the water, sinking further down to the bottom of the cup. smiling, he looked up and spoke in a soft voice.

'my name is kal, it's nice to meet you. is it your first time here?' he tried not to ask too many questions, just wanting to hear her speak was enough for him. a slight breeze from the nearby opened window rustled a few of leaflets on his desk, bringing in cherry blossoms from a giant tree outside.

  • Skylar smiled gently at him as he bowed to her. She watched him with curiousity for a moment before he spoke. "Yes. My friends suggested that I tried it." She spoke in a soft voice. She looked over to the window when the wind blew and watched cherry blossoms blow into the room. Her smile grew as she watched them float in the room before slowly floating down onto the ground. One landed in her hair and another on her hands. Sky looked at the one that landed on her hands and opened them to hold it. She pulled the one from her hair that rested gently and put it in her hands as well. She set them in front of her before looking up at Kal once more.

  • 'they say that cherry blossoms symbolize the fragility of life.' his eyes rested gently on blossoms that floated in.
'the beauty of life is wondrous once it is upon us, but once we leave this plane of existence...' his voice trailed off slightly as he furrowed his brows.

'life is beautiful once we obtain it, and we must cherish it.' shaking his head, he bowed slightly in apology, avoiding her gaze out of embarrassment.

'i'm sorry, i seem to be rambling about odd things. i never asked for your name, what shall i call you in the time being?'

  • Skylar tilted her head as he spoke. She smiled gently as she listened to his words. She shook her head at his apology. "There is no need to apologize. You words were beautiful. I am Skylar, you can call me Sky." She spoke as she watched him look away from her. She didn't know what to expect out of this but it wasn't any of this. "So what do we do in here?" She asked curiously. Sky wanted to try and get as much information about what would happen as possible. She didn't want to miss understand anything.

  • to her reply, he smiled and cocked his head to the side. it was a sight truly when newer customers asked of the plans for the evening. to this question, he would go into elaborate detail on their nightly endeavors and the contact they would be allowed to share. however, tonight he felt powerless to this newcomer. he had no desire to explain in a complicated manner.

and so he responded with a simple, 'whatever you wish to do, we may do. if you yearn to hear me read or sing, i will surely carry out the wish. if you would like to sit here and converse over this cup of tea, then we may. you are in complete control of the activities tonight, dear sky.'

  • Skylar listened to him speak with a slight surprise. She wasn't expecting that this is what it would be like. She wasn't complaining and it might be different for her because she was new. She bit her lip softly as she thought about it. "You sing?" She asked curiously. Sky raised an eyebrow at him and tilted her head. She wanted to know him more, he had caught her attention with such ease.

  • 'yes, i'm sure we all do but my voice is...slightly less soothing and should probably be kept to myself.' he laughed at the premonition. surely, he had never sung or dance in front of a crowd, as that was kept to the more artistic gentlemen.

'however, i wouldn't hesitate to sing if a client asked it of me. i'm never allowed to deny the request of a woman here.' his eyes flitted upwards slightly, meeting her gaze. this night was slightly more relaxed than what he had been used to, but it was a good type of calm that made him feel comfortable.
