    The little kitsune sat outside, beside the great lake about the camp, with a book resting in front of her. She'd recently been thinking about somethings, and remembered how she'd always said she was Hawaiian decent. She remembered hearing her parents, at a young age, argue in Hawaiian, and pretty soon she'd picked up on a few small words. When an argument was about Daddy not being around to help care for the kids, Mommy would constantly mention the "kamali`i"; the children. He was never "hale" - home - to kokua - help. Kalani soon realized how little she knew and decided to learn her native language. the book in front of her had basic Hawaiian words in it and much more advanced too; for now though, she'd stick with the basics.


    "Today," she said to herself, "I will work - hana - on this lesson - ha`awina - and learn my native language - kamaaina olelo. My name is Kalani - ka`u inoa ka mea Kalani." she paused to write it down on a piece of paper nearby her, though her pawwriting was a little wobbly and messy.

She struggled to understand anything that wasn't either Romanian [preferable] or English [unimpressive], so the Hawaiian confused her to the point where she simply lacked the patience to bother figuring out what was what. Her head was already buzzing slightly with the unfamiliar sounds, and with her current moodiness, her automatically thinking about the words only served to irritate her further. "What the...heck..." she couldn't even figure out how she was meant to react to this. It sort of annoyed her, but then most sounds did in general.

    blackpup couldn't grasp the concept of other languages. the small fem just thought that the other was speaking gibberish, if anything. still, it seemed like practiced gibberish. maybe a secret code? she trotted forward, coming to a stop beside kalani and peering at the paper. oh, blackie couldn't read either. whoops. she frowned and looked up at kalani, tail wagging. "What are you doing?" she asked, more curious than anything.

    Kali's head tilted up to see three clanmates surrounding her, generally with the same question: what on earth was she doing? she looked at desirare curiously, not sure what to say to "wha the heck" and instead answered blackpup's question first.


    "I'm speaking Hawaiian and trying to learn some more words. It's supposed to be my second, native language cuz I'm Hawaiian too." She looked down at the book, paper, and pencil, then up at Umbrae. His interest in learninng made her extremely happy, and she replied, "Sure you could join! it's pretty simple once ya get the hang of it!"

    Kal's tail took on a happy wag of excitement, like her face, which lit up at the small gathering. her fellow clanmates were willing to learn thisclanguage, her language. She smiled at Snaketongue and Superhero as they arrived. She decided if they wanted to learn she'd start out simple. "Awesomesause! Okay, first you should know im still learning this myself and everything pretty much comes from this book." She placed a paw on the pages of the small book before her. "Next: the hawaiian language only has 12 letters instead of 26. the consonants are h, k, l, m, n, p, & w… plus our usual vowels. but tge vowels are pronounced differently. lets uh start with vowels i guess.
    a sounds like ah in father or 'awww what a cute puppy… like 'aloha'
    e sounds like a in may or crazy... like the bird called 'nene'"
    she thought this was as good a place of any to start off.

    "Got it? okie... so um the letter i sounds like ee like bee. Example...wahini which means female or woman." she paused, looking down at the book for a second. "Uh... o sounds like oh in so... mahalo is an example which means thank you. finally u sounds like oo in spoon, or hula, which is a really cool hawaiian dance." She smiled with a wag in her tail, hoping she could teach more of her clanmatesthis beautiful language.
