  • "Hello? Zeke? Are you here?"

Morgan Denzel ran her fingers through her copper, Pixie-style hair as she opened the door to her house. Her Brother's car was gone, which was strange considering that his favourite show should be on now. Yes, Morgan was used to coming home from college and being yelled at for being too loud before she picked up her notebook and went to the nearby forest. This happened everyday to a point where she began to enjoy the repetitive routine. But today... There was no sign of him.

    "Zeke? Are you okay?"

    ....
    ...................
    .................................
    ............................................

Morgan was surprised at the silence. Sure, she was glad to come home to a house without a faint scent of cider but at the same time, she couldn't help but admit that she was slightly concerned about her missing brother.

    Sigh

She through her college bag on the table and picked up her everyday bag, which contained a bottle of water, a pencil case, a make up bag and her notebook. Before popping her earbuds in, Morgan took a quick glance in the mirror, checking how damaged her heavy make up was from the day. Her eyeliner was a little smudged, but apart from that, the overall look was still... well... disguising.

    Perfect.

She left her house, closing and locking the door behind her and entering the... Silence of the town?

    Seriously... What's going on?

Morgan began to panic slightly, and jogged to a nearby pub.

  • Chen Siao Had had a relatively boring day. He had finished school at the usual time and had began working in his family's take away. He had been there for 4 hours and so far not a single customer, there wasn't even a radio or a tv he could listen to, to pass the time. So far all he had accomplished was spilling a hot pot of BBQ sauce down the front of his shirt.

"Mom." He called out, his accent clear even though speaking a different language. "Can i go home now?"

His mother a short woman of obvious east Asian decent came out from the kitchen. Even though thier entire family was from China they all made an agreement that when in public to speak in English. His mothers response came in the form of a pizza bag. "Take this. Then go home. Your father wants to talk to you."

"What about?." His mother simply smiled patted his cheek then shoo'd him out the door.

    ---------

Heading out to his rusted old moped that his family got him last year he slumped the pizza bag into its holder and looked around.

This is odd, not even a single car driving about.

He shrugged and started the motor the small whirring noise echoed through the empty streets. Looking at the address his face fell. This is on the other side of town. it'll take an hour there and back

With that he sped off down the road. Leaving his mother alone to watch the shop wandering what his father wanted him for.

  • Jogging turned into running and running turned into sprinting. The lack of people was scaring Morgan immensely. It wasn't like there wasn't anyone around, but the usual collection of workers walking home and teenagers giggling was no where in sight. Instead, all that Morgan could see was the occasional person looking just as confused as her.

Finally, Morgan had reached the shabby looking pub. She pulled out her earbuds, allowing quiet music to surround the air and tried to push the rotted wooden doors open...

    Locked?

Morgan knocked on the door, which created a muffled thud.

"Hello? Is anyone in there? ...Zeke?"

    Silence.

Morgan began to slam her hands on the door repeatedly.

    "Zeke? Anyone? Hello?!"

She started kicking the door out of frustration, letting a few segments of the door crumble away.

C'mon! Where else could he be? He has to be here! He couldn't have just left town or something! How far could he have gone-

Then it hit Morgan. She looked frantically around but she couldn't see the familiar run down Subaru car that she hadn't seen move in months. It was entirely possible that he had left town. But... Why? Sure, her and Zeke didn't get along in the slightest but he was still family. He had never left before without leaving a note or telling her. And the lack of people... Well, that just made this whole situation stranger.

Morgan could hear the screeches of a car in the far-distance. She sighed, allowing the sound of life to be a comfort. Lowering herself against the wall, Morgan bit back tears and tried to think logically.

  • Chen had gradually sped up and was now pushing his moped far beyond the speed limit. There were no cars no people no sound. No anything. Half way into his trip he saw the first sign of life he had seen since his mother. However it wasn't a welcome sight. In his wing mirror he saw blue flashing lights. His speed-o indicated way past 50. He started to slow and pulled into the side of the road. The flashing lights closed in. and sped right past.

What? What on earth is going on.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone the bright screen flashed on.

No internet and no phone signal

More panicked than confused now he sped off down the road hoping to catch sight of anyone who could tell him what was going on.

    -------

10 minutes later he caught his second sign of life a girl was slumped down outside of an old rundown pub, forgetting about the job his mom had given him he pulled over and ran upto her

"Excuse I" He said in his slightly broken english. "This is odd question but have you seen anyone"

  • Deep in thought, it took Morgan a second to realise someone was talking to her. She quickly shot her head up, but lowered it after realising she probably looked like a wreck. Still sitting, she eventually answered the guy's question.

"Um... O-other than you, not really. I... Don't really know what's going on."

Morgan stood up, still keeping her head lowered. She forgot how hard she found it to talk to strangers. At college she kept to herself and at home she was either by herself or talking to Zeke.

"I guess I must have heard your car before... Um... Have you seen a silver Subaru car anywhere?"

  • Chen found this odd that even this girl hadn't seen anyone, It was like the town had disappeared in the time between finishing school and starting work.

"No I not seen anyone apart from a cop car that speed past me. It was weird i was speeding and it ignore me."

Having a quick look around he saw that although it was late there were no cars outside of the pub which was odd as it should've been open around this time.

    "Umm are you looking for-"

Chen was cut short by a banging that came from the locked door of the pub. Startled for a moment the banging stopped. He walked upto the door

"H-Hello?" He called out. it was all quiet. "Hello?" He called again louder.

The banging started again just louder.

Chen took several large steps back from he door his eyes wide.

  • "U-um... What? I was knocking on the door for minutes and... and no one came."

Startled, Morgan just stared at the door which was almost shaking with the heavy bangs. Clearly, whoever was in there wanted to get out.

"U-um... Hello? We can't o-open the door... um... It's locked from your side so you're gonna have to um... find a key or... something."

The knocking didn't stop. Instead, it just got more frequent.

"Can you at least... Stop? There's nothing we can do out here. I'm sorry but... I'm sure there's a key somewhere?"

Morgan was noticeably shaking. There was definitely something wrong here. This was just another thing strange about today, and with each event, it sent her into a further state of paranoia.

  • "A-are you hurt? Are you needing help?" Chan cautiously stepped back up to the door. The banging getting louder and louder as he drew closer. The door looked old and rotting and the door looked as if it were giving way under the heavy blows of whoever was inside.

"Umm excuse me. The door may break if you don't stop."

Chen stopped less than a meter from the door and looked round to the girl. The worry on her face surpassing his own. He breathed in stood up a little taller and asked once more.

    "Are you hurt?"

  • Of course, the knocking didn't stop and no reply came from inside. Worry and frustration mixing, Morgan started to yell.

"Could you just stop?! We want to help but all you're doing is creeping us out!"

The banging continued and the frustration was quickly overtaking the worry. However, she swallowed it and turned to the guy stood next to her.

"I think... I think we're gonna have to break it down. Which won't be hard. Do you want me to do it or...?"

  • "No no i'll do it." Chen Stepped up to the door and grabbed the handle. "Hey we're going to break the door down okay." He braced against the door and looked round to the girl, then back to the door.

"Okay i count to 3 then i break door okay."

Chen looked back at he girl

    "Here goes 1....2..."

As Chen said two he felt the door give way and he was pushed back and down the step onto the pavement. the door landing ontop of him.

Slightly dazed he pushed the door away and looked upto the doorway. There were no lights inside and the his vision was spinning making it difficult to see whoever hand being banging on the door.

  • Morgan quickly dropped to the guy's side.

"Oh my gosh are you okay?"

Seeing that the guy pushed the door off of him, Morgan directed her attention to whoever pushed the door down.

"Hey! We said we were gonna break the door down! You could have seriously hurt someone!"

Morgan stood up to see a pale man walking slowly towards the two. He seemed to be limping... Wait... He was covered in blood? And he wasn't just limping... He was dragging his whole leg.

    "Oh Gods..."

Backing away, Morgan could feel her heart rate increasing rapidly to a point where she was hyperventilating.

Why is he walking? Is he okay? His eyes have no life and his whole body looks broken.

    "P-please!... Stop!... You're... You're gonna hurt yourself!"

Morgan kept backing up until she eventually tripped off of the pavement and fell onto the road. Tears rapidly began falling out of her eyes as she watched the man slowly walk towards her.

  • The man limped past Chen as he struggled to get his bearings. However hearing the panic and fear in the girls voice brought him back to his senses. He looked around to see her fall, the strange man getting closer to her.

"Hey, stop." The man didn't stop. "Can't you see she scared?" The man still paid him no heed.

Chen staggered to his feet the world around him still spinning. He reached out and tugged the mans shoulder he was cold. Unbelievably cold. The man stopped and looked around, lurching on his one good leg taking a swipe at Chen. He stumbled back keeping out of reach of the man. He looked at the mans face, blood was dried against his face, his nose broken, and his jaw seemed unhinged.

How has he not passed out from the pain.

Chen then realized he had made a mistake his back was against the wall of the building and he had backed up all he could. The man however was still moving forward.

"No stay away please." Chen said. "I don't want to hurt you." His hand reached to a piece of splintered wood from where the door had come away from. Holding it out against the man. "Stop i warn you last time."

The man took another swipe this time scratching Chen's cheek with his nails. Chen pushed the wooden stake forward through the man knocking him to the ground. Reeling Chen stepped over the man and to the girl. "A-a-are y-you okay?" He struggled out
