the pale brown tabby approached the border, a green collar to match his green eyes around
his throat, a small bell attached. riku - that was the young tom's name - worried
over whether he'd be let into the clan or not, but tried pushing away the worry, shaking his
head gently. he inched closer to the border, unrooting his cautious white paws as he approached,
shell-like ears tilting forwards to pick up the sounds of approaching paw-steps. the feline had
heard rumors of animals living together in a "clan", and the runaway kitty-pet thought the idea
sounded nice, and wanted to join their group. he wasn't sure how small he'd be in comparison
to the others, being short and slender by genetics, especially if his height was put against the
height of a non-feline. he had heard that not only felines lived in the clans, but deer, birds, dogs,
wolves, sharks, tigers! animals he had never seen before!
riku was barely three months old and yet he was already off, wanting to join a mysterious clan.
he tried not to think of his human owners. they were very kind to him and gave him much love,
but he wanted adventure and excitement; a new life! that was what riku wanted more than
anything else. he was polite enough to stay off of their borders - he could smell their scent,
which suggested they didn't want strangers crossing without permission - and instead sat on
the opposite side, waiting from someone to approach. his pale brown tabby coat was ruffled
as he got more nervous with each passing moment. what if a vicious riverclanner chased him
away, or even worse, killed him? the kitty-pet's heart skipped a beat at the mere thought of such
a thing. more negative thoughts started to manifest, making him regret his journey to their
borders, making his paws itch to flee, but he swallowed hard, pinning back his ears and digging
his small curved claws into the dirt. he would ask to join before he had the chance to run away;
he wasn't going to let fear rule him!
"h-hello, i'd like to join r-riverclan!" he choked out, stammering slightly. he had sounded a lot
braver in his head, but that couldn't be helped. some riverclanners would have to have some sort
of sympathy for the little scrap of brown tabby fur, right? "my name is r-riku!" the tom called
out, face flashing as he looked back down at his paws. what if they thought his name was stupid?
think positive! stop thinking that they're going to hate you! they can't be all that bad! i bet they're
really nice!
