• [fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 475px; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px]King's Landing was a bustling place but not somewhere she'd ever want to live. Too many unfamiliar faces occupied its streets and, admittedly, the petite lioness was unnerved. Underneath that icy mask was still a girl after all, and the concept of "stranger danger" applied to even her. She tended to put on a brave face though, wandering about absently in some desperate attempt at locating a Targaryen. With her family, she would always be safe, she recognized that. It was just the pesky matter of finding one. They were a thriving house full of members, but presently, none seemed to be around. Curious. Malaella persevered however, her pale blonde paws guiding her confidently down winding paths and through rowdy crowds. When, at least, she arrived in a relatively empty courtyard, she decided to take a seat, her thin lips pressing into an even thinner frown. Oh well, she assumed that she could continue her search later on. It wasn't like they were exactly going anywhere any time soon.

Oh, he hated the capital – whenever he came, he was only reminded of the Targaryen legacy that was ended, revived, and then ended a second time with cold purpose. The Targaryens had always been feared in Westeros, reviled from the first day although Lucerys could not understand why. The Westerosi loved to bring up the former High Queen Lorina Targaryen’s name in particular when they were looking for an excuse to look down on the Targaryens, but Lucerys could summon more than four times as many names of noble Targaryens who had served the seven realms well. But of course, the peasantry and the nobles of rivaling houses only cared for evidence that would support their point of view.

Not that Lucerys could blame them exactly. That narrowed mindfulness was useful when you were trying to pursue a particular goal. It was why the pale grey dragon had decided he would loathe all other houses. It wasn’t a laboring task, not when he found that he disliked most of the Westerosi he encountered anyhow, even some of the Targaryens he had met although he tried to love them for the sole fact that they shared a name and oftentimes, even blood as well.

Landing in a corner street of King’s Landing – Fleabottom – Lucerys glanced around at the filthy area. For all their talk of knights, honour, chivalry, and nobility, Westeros truly was a wretched place. More than half of their population wallowed in poverty while he and the rest of the wretched nobility played a game of strategic losses, victories, and alliances all for the sake of more power.

Was it like this in every group? BlizzardClan? BloodClan? BoneClan? Those were the three groups his mother, Sweetophelia Targaryen, had often spoken of during the time he spent in his mother’s company. BlizzardClan was remarkably different from BloodClan and BoneClan – according to his mother’s recollection – but all had more similarities with one another than any with Westeros, and it wasn’t just because of the difference in name.

Supposedly BlizzardClan was a warm place – in contrast to the weather phenomenon for which the neutral clan had been named – with open, friendly people who didn’t discriminate on the basis of your surname. It was the place his mother had called home for many years and she had even ascended to the rank of vice-leader. The silver-blue kitsune had given it all up in the end, to run away and live in seclusion. She had never explained why and Lucerys had asked her many times, but she was never moved. He wondered if she even knew herself.

His mind stuck in a reverie, the pale grey dragon wandered throughout the city of King’s Landing, eventually finding himself standing a better part of the town. Cleaner – it smelled of wealth. His pale blue-grey eyes flitting around the area, they eventually fell on Malaella. A Targaryen, wasn’t she?

Stepping forward, he called out her name, “Are you Malaella Targaryen?”

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 475px; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px]Malaella sat in silence for several moments prior to his arrival. Lost in a contemplative reverie, her mind had wandered to a time in the past and she had began to think about the Targaryens and what they used to be. She understood that they possessed a rich history, one littered with nobility and control, but she could not possibly begin to fathom how and why they had been uprooted from their position of power. Each and every one of her family members that she had encountered thus far struck her as good material for leading as well - dedicated, strong, influencial - what happened that took away everything she presumed that they had worked for?

Of course she knew... everyone knew so to speak... But like many things, she refused to comprehend such realizations, arguing that they were the most fit to do anything in the country. Hadn't it been under their leadership that it was born?

A soft sigh would escape the lioness's parted lips in that moment and she would look around, silently relishing the peace that she had in the nearly abandoned courtyard. Conversation had never been her forte and, admittedly, she had been dreading settling down in a place where some lowly citizen might attempt to speak to her. Here, the only thing that was set on disturbing her was her own perplexed thoughts, still centered on the burning question of why. But for the sake of her own sanity, she dismissed them, allowing her attention to drift towards nature and the general state of the day. She was about to verbally comment on the placid weather when she finally heard her kin's words and, turning to him, she would attempt to weakly smile.

While she was socially challenged when it came to members of other houses (whether it be simply because they made her uncomfortable or because they managed to anger her), she felt right at home speaking to someone whom she shared blood with. Family was, after all, the most important thing to the young Malaella and she did not often hesitate to show that. In a sense, she supposed that her smile displayed that fact; she only found herself doing it in the company of the Targaryens.

Clearing her throat, she slowly nodded before finally answering, "Yes, that would be me." She would rear back upon her haunches after that, relieved that her search had finally come to an end. The twisting turns of King's Landing were treacherous and she was glad that she no longer had to fear for her safety. She knew well and good that a desperate situation could birth a desperate person or a desperate action. "I've actually been looking for a fellow Targaryen, I'm not much of a fan of anyone else," Malaella would reveal with a simple shrug of her blonde shoulders, appearing relatively indifferent over the statement. She wasn't going to lie, no no, lying would get her nowhere. Besides, her behavior towards, for example, the Tyrells was evidence enough- she was never pleased when near one of them. But her biggest concern right now was not who she enjoyed and who she didn't, but rather the identity of the dragon before her.

"But you are Lucerys Targaryen, aren't you?"

(it's totally fine!! i'm totally game with helping out for the contest!)

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify; line-height: 12px;][fancypost borderwidth=0px; padding: 0px; font-family: timesnewroman; font-size: 23pt; letter-spacing: -1px; float: left; WIDTH: 250PX; height: 20px; padding-top: 6px;]Lucerys Targaryen[/fancypost][b] westeros - general - powers tags - battle tags
Lucerys Targaryen watched Malaella closely, unsurprised to see that she was quite pleasing to the eye when she had turned to face him. Most Targaryens were quite beautiful – after all, Targaryens who had received their family name by blood relation were descended from the only surviving house of the Valyrian Freehold, and descendants of Valyrian blood were often gifted with superior features uncommon in this realm. The Targaryens had not been the most powerful dragonlords before the Doom of Valyria, but brute power wasn’t the most important factor to consider, as they were the only Valyrian descendants left in all the realms. Really, it gave Lucerys great pride for his house, although he did often consider the possibility of the extinction of Valyrian-blooded creatures. The Targaryens bred outside of their family too often – sparingly was fine to rid the gene pool of heredity diseases but the blood could only be diluted so much before it was spoiled.

Was that a disturbing thought? Not truly. In Westeros, it was not uncommon for cousins to wed cousins even in the other houses, and the Targaryens had wedded sister and brother for centuries, this practice justified by their status as a higher being in comparison to the descendants of the First Men and the Andals that populated most of the realm. Lucerys Targaryen who had been brought up under a very traditional hand, did not find the thought disturbing in the least, mundane actually. It was not taboo, nor was it exciting – it was expected and traditional. In fact, his mother and father had been siblings, well half-siblings. Sweetophelia Targaryen had been the bastard daughter of the High Queen Eurydice Targaryen and the BloodClan leader Domeric, while Tsubodai Targaryen was a true-blooded son of the High Queen Eurydice Targaryen and her husband, the Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne. But he was not certain if his parents had or still loved one another – Tsubodai was cold by nature, while Sweetophelia had been only a fleeting presence in his childhood.

But was love genuine and lasting in any marriage? Lucerys, who was suspicious and skeptical by nature, thought that most marriages – outside of Westeros anyway – started when two animals mistook lust and friendship for true, romantic love and decided to consummate their feelings by being wed. Some marriages lasted, but he could not wonder if the spouses were ever tempted. Perhaps their lives were simply too short for the bonds of marriage to be truly tested. Whatever affection you had for someone, Lucerys was sure that with the passing years that affection would dwindle from passion to quiet familiarity. But perhaps that was enough for most.

His pale blue grey eyes remaining fixed on Malaella as he spoke, he offered a crooked, genuine smile. His true smiles were reserved for only true Targaryens. “I can’t say I don’t feel the same,” he replied smoothly in response to her admission of dislike for non-Targaryens. “But we should probably keep those feelings to ourselves for now,” he added with a light laugh. Were there spies listening nearby? He didn’t trust that Master of Whispers in the least. “I am he,” he confirmed, eyes bright. “I’m pleased to see you, sister. When did you come to Westeros?” Had she always been here? He had assumed that most of their half-siblings had also been raised in Tsubodai’s ice castle, but he knew that most held little to no memories of their father outside of him, Jaehaerys, and Maegor.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 475px; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px]The concept of marriage was one that Malaella only vaguely understood.

She knew that it often occurred out of love (and occasionally lust), but the inter-workings of it easily eluded her. For what reason did a couple have to stay together? And, after the initial 'honeymoon' phase wore off, what were they to do then? The only benefit that a lifelong commitment to another person offered was the prospect of children, at least in her eyes, and even then, to dedicate yourself forever seemed confusing. But she was well aware of the fact that it was almost necessary here, a well-heard of practice that usually bound two members of the same house or one member of a greater house and the other of a lesser one. She also recognized that some day, she would be expected to marry an acceptable suitor, whether that be another Targaryen or a person that would benefit their social standing. They would make a wife out of her and, honestly, Malaella was rather curious about what that would entail.

She supposed that, in theory, she would try her hardest to be as cooperative as possible. Her icy nature would make it hard to get acquainted with her future spouse though, and unless they came directly out of her family, she presumed that the first few weeks would be rocky and even chaotic. After all, she did not handle the other Houses well (or at all). But, were she to be thrust in a situation where she felt uncomfortable, she would not throw a fit and openly voice her distaste about it either. In her mind, doing so would equate to dishonoring the Targaryens and what they stood for. She could not do that. She would not do that.

A part of her wondered if things would be different if she was a male. Malaella guessed that she would have a little more freedom when it came to such, but she did not know. She had never heard of a man being the one given away, it was always the woman. Always. Then again, she supposed that that was simply a result of the society they lived in. She would play the part of a good bargaining chip if the Targaryens ultimately married her away and if they didn't and instead presented her to a cousin or brother, she'd play the part of the compliant wife. There wasn't much wiggling room for her, but she'd make the best of it. She was smart enough to figure out how.

But marriage was a ways off and she would much rather chat with her brother than think of her future. His words were a guarantee, she could not say the same about her fate.

"I suppose you have a point, someone might think I'm not loyal if they heard me saying such things," she responded with a cold chuckle, shaking her head. A shame that she could not openly voice her dislike but oh well, she didn't want to cause any unnecessary problems. Malaella decided that it would be in her best interest to focus on his question, pursing her lips as she pondered it carefully. "Only just recently, my arrival is a bit foggy though," she explained with a casual shrug. She didn't say much more after that, merely hoping that Lucerys understood that she did not know. Her origin story was a mystery, even to her. She had never had the courage to ask about it before.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify; line-height: 12px;][fancypost borderwidth=0px; padding: 0px; font-family: timesnewroman; font-size: 23pt; letter-spacing: -1px; float: left; WIDTH: 250PX; height: 20px; padding-top: 6px;]Lucerys Targaryen[/fancypost][b] westeros - general - powers tags - battle tags
Lucerys Targaryen took the moment to run his pale gaze over Malaella Targaryen, an appraising gleam in his eyes. She hadn't looked Targaryen - as Lucerys was so accustomed to seeing members of house Targaryen in their dragon forms, the sigil of their house - but her colours were right: pale cream fur and violet eyes. Lucerys himself was a pale grey colour with pale blue grey eyes. Their Targaryen blood had been diluted somewhere along the lines. Lucerys Targaryen himself - along with his twin, Jaehaerys Targaryen - was the son of Sweetophelia Targaryen and Tsubodai Targaryen. They were, respectively, the bastard child of Domeric and the High Queen Eurydice Targaryen and the legitimate son of Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne and the High Queen Eurydice Targaryen. His ancestry could be traced back to the ancient Martells and Targaryens, as well as whatever line the former BloodClan leader, Domeric, had descended from.

But Malaella was beautiful and she had the Valyrian features which only enhanced her good looks. She was young yet, but Lucerys did not imagine that it'd be long before Jaehaerys began lining up suitors for her. There weren't many eligible men in the other houses and Lucerys was uncertain of his brother's opinion on sibling marriages, although cousin and uncle-neice or aunt-nephew were still considered the norm in Westeros. But that was a thought for another day. Smiling still, Lucerys spoke vaguely, "I understand."

When he had first left his father's ice palace, his memories had been blurred and unclear as well, but as the months progressed and Lucerys grew older, they began returning to him. He knew what his purpose was. The pale grey dragon looked up at the sky, "It's a bit hot out, perhaps we should find shelter from the sun? I don't believe the Red Keep is a very far walk away. I've never lived inside the Red Keep - Eurydice's and Lorina's reign was long over before my birth - but I've been visiting lately. I could show you the statue of the High Queen Eurydice Targaryen along the way, if you'd like?"
