It was that butterfly again! The very one that she had chased all the way into Skyclan a month or two back. Now it was here again, fluttering around like it was just begging to be chased by the energetic kitsune. She lept up after it, tripping over her tail, but getting right back up again. She ignored the clanmembers that got upset over her silliness when she came closee to tripping them or toppling something over. The violet wings weren't hard to miss, but it kept flying just out of her reach as it led her outside the metropolis and onto the grassy plateau. She tripped over a few small rocks, even over her own paws at one point, but her attention remained on that butterfly – for the kitsune who often had the attention span of a gnat, just focusing on this one object for longer than ten seconds was an incredible mini-milestone. Her goal was simple: Catch. That. Butterfly.
It flew closer to the ground, giving Kali a chance to snap at it before it flew higher and faster, straight towards the lake. It made its way down on a cattail, and it appeared to have its back turned to her. She remembered the last time this happened, she ended up in the lake's banks. She crouched, then began coming closer to it as fast as she could in a crouch-walk. Almost, almost...allllmooooossst, she thought with each pawstep. Then, the white furball freezed. The butterfly had turned around in her direction, like it expected her to be there but never saw her. She didn't know why it couldn't see her; a fluffy white kitsune in the middle of spring green grass, any should be able to see a white dot by the lake. So how comethe butterfly coldnt even see her when she was just 3 feet away? Eh, butterfly first, ask questions later. she wagged her rump, positioning herself to pounce on the unsuspecting prey. Okay, she thought, breathing slowly, three… two… one… She let out a small battle cry and jumped onto the butterfly.
"WHERE DID I GO?!"
The butterfly had flown off without a scratch, but once Kalani looked for her reflection in the lake, a furry white face and purple eyes did not greet her as it had before. In fact, there was nothing there at all! No Kali looking back at her. She looked down at her paws and— "AH!" Now where did her paws go?! What was happening? No paws, no white pelt, no annoying fluffy tail she used to spend hours chasing… Was she sick? She didn't know, but kept trying to not panic while she waited for herself to come back.
