She was now the God of the Dead, the new Hades. Ah yes, that was right... this Hecate had been but a mere human before all of this started. No wonder she was so wary around everyone. She didn't know who she had to obey and who she could ease up around. He nodded, sliding over so she could sit beside him, letting his powers do the majority of the work while he thought about how to start off this... intriguing tale. "Well, as I am sure you must have guessed by now, Ares and Aphrodite have... always been close. In fact, when they were humans, they were best friends. Aphrodite, however, was chosen to be, well, the new Goddess of Love. I suppose that would be... probably ten or twenty years ago. I have lost count. But they have been with us for a while. Ares was taken a year or two later to be the new God of War." His blue eyes shifted to the sleeping god, the pensive look on Ares' face giving way to something almost peaceful as he slept. "When he arrived, he hated everyone. Then again, all of the other gods also hated him. For some reason, it is a natural instinct to dislike Ares and Hades, no matter who they are. Ares... well, he didn't care. The only gods who would speak to him were Eros and Eris. Eros, being the younger brother of Aphrodite, and Eris, being the younger brother of Ares, seemed to be the only two who were not afraid of Ares. Aphrodite only began to speak to Ares again at your banquet, I believe. However, as the God of Muses and Prophecies, I can tell you now that Ares has not only been Aphrodite's best friend. I believe that--even though he will not admit it--he has always been in love with her. She is his muse, the one thing that keeps him going through this immortal hell each and every day. I am not surprised that he seems so bent on keeping her safe and keeping her from danger. He would rather die for her than live without her. No doubt his natural instinct to throw himself in front of her is from the years they spent as mortals, but... it is a dangerous instinct. He puts himself in the line of danger, and, ultimately, it may end up killing him." He glanced at Hecate, eyes worried, shoulders tense. "Yes, we can die. Not in the sense that mortals die, but... in a manner of speaking... we, too, can stop living in spite of our immortality." He looked down at Ares, grimacing. Yes, it would end up killing the God of War if he kept going on like this. He wouldn't be surprised. [/fancypost] |
