Badlands, near Snakewater, Montana. This was the site of a dig taking place. There were many people from different branches of paleontology. Some paleobotanists, like Dr. Ellie Sattler, or some just broader paleontologists, like Dr. Alan Grant, or Dr. Katelynn Aubrey. Others, such as Sarah Norse, were animal behaviorists invited for the cause of helping to make inferences about species based on their uncovered, previously undisturbed fossils. Those four people previously mentioned are all friendly with each other because of their fondness for their career. What happens now is between them and the dig.
Katie wiped sweat from her brow as she worked to excavate part of the raptor fossil in the ground before them. Near her was Alan, a friend she'd known in college, just as she was getting started. Being in her late twenties, about twenty-eight, she'd been in the works for quite a few years to get her Ph. D. in paleontology. Nonetheless, here she was, working away at the rocky sediments around the dinosaur fossil with a specialized brush. It wasn't much longer after she'd had that thought when Ellie, the paleobotanist, also a friend known by the parameters of school, walked close after being called away along with Alan, Katie, and Sara, who Katie had known for years, them being moderately the same age.
"Dr. Sattler, Dr. Grant, Dr. Aubrey, Ms. Norse," someone called. "We're going to try again."
this probably isn't completely done but still i tried lmao -

Sara Norse was sitting cross legged on the hot, dusty ground as she was attempting to brush the grainy sand off of the top off a trace fossil. The weather was dry, and nearly unbearable, but she acted as if she was having a "grand old time" out on the digging site. Truth of the matter was, she didn't know much about paleontology- but she didn't want to look ignorant in front of everyone else.
She stood with every else and followed the group down to the tents they had set up with computers- they were currently trying to figure out a way to send cameras down to look at fossils buried deep within the sedimentary rock layers. She stood in the back of the group, not really paying attention to what was going on.
"Seriously," Sara averted her gaze up from the ground whenever she heard Alan had begun to speak. "Maybe dinosaurs have more in common with present day birds than reptiles. Look at the pubic bone, turned backwards, just like a bird." He pointed to the blurry image of the fossil on the old computer screen, everyone looking at it with pure interest. Except Sara. She could barely tell the difference between a Pterodactyl and a Pteranodon as it was.
this is shitty y'all I'm so sorry -

[fancypost borderwidth=0px; margin-top:-9px; width:476px]
[sub]Jade would be lying if she said she wasn't tired of her job already.
At 31 years old, Jade was very much starting her life. Only a year ago, she had tried to abandon the party life and job high that had been avaliable to her when she had her daughter, Lacey. A thick-headed little girl that didn't know how to stop stuffing unidentified objects in her mouth. That was rather worrying, seeing as Jade spent her time cleaning hardened tree sap, also known as amber, for a living. She lived in constant fear of her daughter swallowing something important and dying because of that.
Still, for some odd reason, she had been called to a dig site. She was told to simply watch over, and had wasted not time in locking herself into a cool tent to go over the rather peculiar shard of amber she had found a month ago. The insect stuck in it was nearly gone, she suspected that it had once been a mosquito. People at her office were hopping around about these amber samples, saying that there was a connection between them and dinosaurs.
"Why would mosquitoes have anything to do with dinosaurs?" She murmured as she slapped an annoying gnat off her arm.

Katelynn nodded her head at what Alan was saying. It made sense, since birds did start appearing in the Mesozoic era along with dinosaurs. Birds had feathers, and it was being supported that dinosaurs did as well, even if they lost them as they got older or something else happened to them.
"That doesn't look very scary. More like a six-foot turkey," some snarky little volunteer kid piped up. Most of the others circled around the blurry screen laughed at this comment. Katie sighed, imagining Alan chewing the kid out and lecturing him on raptors, something only he would do. She smiled to herself, watching as Alan walked up to that kid looking like he was going to knock some sense into him. Knowing his ways with children, it wouldn't surprise her one bit. Alan hated children, calling them expensive and other things. Which was true, she secretly agreed.
"A turkey, huh? Okay, try to imagine yourself in the Cretaceous period. You get your first look at this 'six-foot turkey' as you enter a clearing. He moves like a bird, lightly bobbing his head. And you keep still because you think that maybe his visual acuity is based on movement like T-Rex - he'll lose you if you don't move. But no, not Velociraptor. You stare at him, and he just stares right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side," he said, making a slashing sound. "from the other two raptors you didn't even know were there. Because Velociraptor's a pack hunter, you see, he uses coordinated attack patterns and he is out in force today. And he slashes at you with this..." Alan pulled a raptor claw from his pocket. "A six-inch retractable claw, like a razor, on the the middle toe. He doesn't bother to bite your jugular like a lion, say... no no. He slashes at you here, or here..." he 'slashed' the kid with the claw on the stomach and thigh.
"Alan," Ellie sighed, shaking her head.
"Or maybe across the belly, spilling your intestines. The point is, you are alive when they start to eat you. So you know, try to show a little respect." he finished off, nodding and smiling sarcastically.
"Okay," the boy said, looking disturbed and scared as Alan walked away to the trailer.
-
"Kids. Aren't they wonderful." She muttered to herself as she turned and began to make her way back to the fossil she was 'studying' once before. The description of the Velociraptor that Alan had so realistically described to the kid gave her the chills despite the burning weather- she was thankful that they had been extinct for million of years by now.
All of a sudden, the thunderous sound of a helicopter could be heard nearby. It made it's way for landing right in the middle of the dig site, blowing particles of dust all over the fossils everyone had spent so much time on brushing off to examine. Sara held a hand over her eyes to block out the blinding sun so her eyes could get a better look at the helicopter- sending a glance of confusion over to her friend Katie as she did so.

[fancypost borderwidth=0px; margin-top:-9px; width:476px]
[sub]What caught Jade's attention was the turkey description of some ancient beast. A little disrespectfully, she tossed aside the amber she was mulling over and crept closer to the entrance of her tent. She had hardly heard the gorey description of the way the ancient reptile, the Velociraptor, hunted when the helicopter appeared, stirring up dust and stinging her eyes. [/fancypost]

To say Violet Blake had came on time would be a lie to herself, and all of her co-workers who she had only merely made acquaintance with.
She means, it wasn't her full fault that she had come to the site later than she was supposed to, she had her own personal problems to deal with back at home. Such as how the electricity conveniently decided to go out. Violet spent more time worrying over her beloved electricity in her cramped apartment than paying attention to the time. What was more important to you was the first thing on your mind, after all.
Don't get her wrong, she didn't mind her job as an animal behaviorist one bit, in fact she enjoyed it. It was just the job she had was typical in her day, and losing the electricity in your home was not. What would your attention be more on?
Nonetheless, she had arrived with slightly disheveled clothing from the lack of lighting in her home (neither did it help that she was practically blind; it took a while to find her glasses.) Once she parked close to the site and made a quick trot to the area, she didn't fail to notice an individual she could tolerate the most, Sara and the mysterious helicopter landing quite loudly. Violet wondered what was going on.
-
Katelynn struggled to cover the excavated raptor with the rest of the dig crew, and after it was protected, she noticed Alan sprint to the trailer. The guy from the helicopter presumably went in there, since he sure wasn't in the helicopter anymore, and Ellie also went into the trailer. Hearing a quiet pop of a champagne bottle cork, she disregarded it for a minute and walked towards Violet and Sara with a wave.
"Nice timing, Vi," Katie remarked with a smile. "Should we go check out what's happening in the trailer? Yeah, yeah, say I'm nosy all you want, but even if you aren't, I am." Everyone agreed, so they all went into the trailer since Alan left the door open. John Hammond acknowledged us and we waited to hear what he had to say.
"Now, I'll get right to the point. I like you, all of you. I can tell instantly about people. It's a gift. I own an island, off the coast of Costa Rica. I've leased it from the government and I've spent the last five years setting up a kind of biological preserve. Really spectacular, spared no expense. It'll make the one I've got down in Kenya look like a petting zoo. And there's no doubt, our attractions will drive kids out of their minds," John stated.
"What are those?" Alan asked.
"Small versions of adults," Katie said, rolling her eyes.
"And not just kids. Everyone. We're going to open in the Fall, that is if the lawyers don't kill me first. I don't care for lawyers, do you?" John questioned.
"I don't really know any," Alan said. Everyone shook their heads.
"Well, I do I'm afraid. This particular pebble in my shoe represents my investors. That they insist on outside opinions," John replied.
"What kind of opinions?" Sara asked.
"Well, you're kind not to put too fine a point on it. I mean, let's face it... in your particular field you're the top minds. And if I could just persuade you, to sign off on the park, give it your endorsement, maybe even pen a wee testimonial, I could get right back on schedule," John said persuasively.
"Why would they care what we think?" Violet asked.
"What kind of park is this?" Alan asked suspiciously.
"It's right up your alley," Violet, Sara, and Katie all shared a look. "I tell you what. Why don't you come down, all of you, for the weekend? I'd love to have the opinion of all your different... fields of research as well. I've got a jet standing by at Choteau," John replied.
"I'm sorry, this isn't possible. We just dug up a new skeleton--" Alan started.
"I could compensate you by fully funding your dig..." John interrupted.
"This is a very unusual time," Alan continued.
"...for a further three years," John finished.
"Where's the plane?" Ellie asked excitedly.
"Okay, yeah," Alan agreed. Everyone was buzzing about the funding for the dig as they got onto the helicopter.
-
Every little movement the helicopter made, even the tiniest of jolts made Sara feel like her breakfast was going to make a reappearance soon. She was seated right next to the window which overlooked the vast ocean, which didn't make matters any better.
Katie, who was seated to Sara's left next to Alan, noticed this. She leaned over to whisper inaudibly into her friends ear. "Didn't you say once that you have a thing for tall, dark and handsome men Sara?" Katie motioned to the man who was seated across from Sara, who's name was Dr. Ian Malcolm.
Sara turned her head to look at her friend, a frown on her features. "I'm on the brink of puking right now, and you're not helping. Go bother Alan or something." The helicopter moved just slightly, and Sara closed her eyes and wrung her hands in her lap. She just wanted to get to the island.
-
Monotone faced, and not focusing on the odd jolting of the helicopter, Violet crossed her arms. She didn't fail to notice her two co-workers whispering to each other, once or twice stealing a glance at a doctor she had just met before she turned towards the window. Without them seeing, rolled her eyes at the two. Already gossiping, she mused to herself. Or one of them was interested in that guy; who knows, could be the ladder. She didn't know too much about either Sara or Katie, but one of them was probably lonely. Yes, she lived alone, but she didn't mind it one bit. Crushes or relationships weren't her forte anyway.
-
If Katie was being honest with herself, she knew she liked Alan. Sure, Ian was hot, but she could almost tell by just looking at Sara that she was interested, so she left it alone. The helicopter was silent for a while until Dr. Malcolm spoke.
"So, you all... dig up--dig up dinosaurs?" he asked.
"Well..." Katie said as Alan looked up from the raptor claw he was messing with, the same one as earlier.
"...we try to," he gave a short-lived smile. Ian made a noise and Katie could hardly tell if it was a laugh or if it was salacious growling, but it sounded like a mixture between the two. Eventually, this made her laugh, and everyone else--minus Alan, who wouldn't even give a chuckle.
"Lighten up, Alan," Katie said with a smile as the laughter died down. "It's a park, not a funeral." At this comment, Alan simply raised an eyebrow and went back to playing with the fossilized claw.
"You'll have to get used to Dr. Malcolm, he suffers from a deplorable excess of personality, especially for a mathematician," John said, rolling his eyes.
-
I don't know what's going on
-
The helicopter finally landed with a harsh drop, causing Sara to pale slightly even though they had finally reached the island. She smiled nervously at everyone before relaxing in the seat as the helicopter came to a stop- they had arrived at Jurassic Park.
Everyone had disembarked out of the helicopter first, Sara following close behind Violet, and nearly tripping on the way down as she did so. The air outside was humid and moist, but that part was ignored as she stood in amazement of the enormous waterfall behind them, and the lush green jungle surrounding at all sides.
All of a sudden, Katie was waving a hand in front of her friend's face. "Earth to Sara...c'mon Mr. Hammond says we have to take off-road jeeps up the island for safety reasons. You can ride with Alan, Dr. Malcolm, and I."
"Alright then." Sara followed Katie to one of the jeeps, a bright 'Jurassic Park' logo printed on the side of the vehicle. She climbed into the back seat next to Ian, giving him a friendly smile as she settled into her spot. After Alan and Katie were seated, John shouted something inaudible from his vehicle, as he motioned for everyone to follow him up into the island.
-
Katie watched out the front window as the shades of green flew past while Alan drove the Jeep, closely following John's. She was jerked out of her tranquil haze as he slammed on the brakes. Good thing they had seatbelts. Alan stood up and jerked off his hat and sunglasses. Katie also stood up in her seat because Alan was 6'0" and she was short, so she could hardly see around him. She didn't expect to see a real, live brachiosaurus just calmly eating leaves off of trees. Her jaw dropped as the brachiosaurus roared, seeming content in its success. Katie got Sara and Ian's attentions quickly and in awe. It then reared up on its hind legs, grabbing more leaves. The two paleontologists got out of the car excitedly, just as Ellie and John did so.
"Uh... it's... it's a dinosaur!" Alan exclaimed, sounding out of breath. "We could just tear up the rule book on cold-bloodedness. It doesn't apply, they're totally wrong, this is a warm-blooded creature... This thing's got what, a twenty-seven foot neck?"
"The brachiosaur? Thirty," John answered.
"Thirty feet," Alan mumbled. "How fast are they?"
"Well, we clocked the T-Rex at thirty-two miles an hour," John said.
"T-Rex... you said you've got a T-Rex?" Katie asked, astonished.
"Say again?" Alan said, looking like he was going to faint.
"We have a T-Rex," John smiled. At this comment, Alan almost toppled over completely and Katie rushed to his side. He sat down, and so did she.
"Dr. Aubrey, Dr. Grant, my dear Dr. Sattler... Welcome... to Jurassic Park." John finished.
They all turned to look at a herd of brachiosaurus and parasaurolophus.
"They're moving in herds," Alan concluded. "They do move in herds!" Ellie and John sat down at this point to watch the dinosaurs. "How'd you do this?" he asked.
"I'll show you," John said.
-
These dinosaurs were like nothing Sara had ever imagined- sure she had seen 'pictures' and even fossils of the prehistoric predators but they were supposed to be extinct. She didn't know if she was supposed to be amazed or worried at the sight.
"Can you believe that? Look at how tall it is!" Sara asked Ian in excitement as she leaned out of the jeep slightly to get a better look, whilst putting her hat on to block out the sunlight.
"That crazy son of a b*tch did it." Ian replied, shaking his head slightly. The ground would shake every so slightly whenever the large brachiosaurus would take a step. Despite being further back from the creature, it still looked enormous from where Sara was.
"I'm gonna go take a closer look." She then gracelessly climbed over Ian to open the door to the other side of the jeep, as she stepped out on the grassy field, and waved to Katie and Alan, who were talking to John. She looked over to see Violet sitting in the opposite jeep, and pondered if she should ask her to come see the dinosaur with the rest of them, but decided against it since she seemed to be in one of her infamous moods.
-
Violet was the last to get out of the Jeep, not failing to notice the humongous and unnatural reptiles that were in front of her and the group.
"Well, would you look at that," She muttered to herself. In general, she was not impressed by many things; it was a close relation to impossible to be amazed by many things. But, that brachiosaurus in front of them mindlessly eating from that tree could make a slight exception.
However, in the back of her head, she could sense the uneasiness of the situation.
-
Katie had zoned out on most of John's talking because she was looking at the dinosaurs. She couldn't believe it. Sixty-five million years later, dinosaurs roamed the Earth again. It made her a bit uneasy, though, since John thought it was a great idea to recreate carnivorous creatures. It would have been just fine to make only herbivores, but since he made the park and the dinosaurs, she couldn't say anything. At least, presumably, they were all contained well enough. However, the thought that Donald Gennaro had to come to this park over some sort of lawsuit because of a worker of the park itself... Well, it only intensified the queasiness uprising in her stomach. No one really seemed to be mentioning that, even though it was really the reason that part of the Badlands' dig crew had gone to Jurassic Park: to defend John Hammond from a lawyer. It was treated as some sort of holiday-- Which, essentially, it was. A retreat from the blazing heat of the Sun's rays beating upon them whilst they sat on the coarse sand. Still, despite this, she wondered about the incident that happened to the worker. Obviously, it had to be some sort of safety issue.
However, Katie snapped out of her haze and waved back to Sara, who had just gotten out of the jeep, and motioned for her to come closer, forgetting almost--almost-- entirely about her long and rambling train of thought. There was still that tiny nagging in the corner of her mind.
"Isn't it amazing?" She asked, still staring out at the dinosaurs in awe, something she hadn't realized she was doing absentmindedly while in thought. At this, she noticed Violet was also out of the jeep-- the last one, in fact. She waved and did the same motions to her, hoping she would warm up a bit. After all, it was a pretty nice island. What could go wrong?
