    It was the first day that all the first years in DWMA were going to pick their partners and start on their missions. The student with the highest marks usually got to pick first and that happen to be Opal. Opal was a short girl and she was only 10, so people were surprised that she was so skilled. Opal was also a child in every way except when it came to fighting and school. The small girl grinned as she stood infront of the classroom, she already knew who she was going to pick. She just hoped that they would accept her as their meister."Lukas and Luciano!"She said happily, her one good eye lighting up as she spoke. She didn't know why she liked the two brothers so much, but she supposed that a small part of her thought that they reminded her of herself. They never really spoke to anyone other than each other and they seemed lonely, they also were very beautiful weapons. Everyone either wanted a gun or some kind of scythe, but she liked the simply long swords. Opal walked over to the two taller boys, she came up to Lukas's shoulders but was much shorter than Luciano."If it's alright with you then we can be partners!"She told them with a bright smile as she held out her hands to them. Opal had left her family behind two years ago and she had a feeling that these two didn't really have anyone either. Maybe Opal was just trying to put together her own makeshift family, but she decided not to focus too much on the reasoning.

    — The boys' head snapped up, focused on the front now. It took Luciano a moment to process what was going on, he felt it was some sort of pity and was gonna refuse if that was the case. However that bright smile that graced Lukas's face made him hesitate, he hasn't seen such a genuine smile since his eighth birthday. "Luci, we were actually picked!" The birthday-boy beamed excitedly. It was obvious that the rather wet reflection of Lukas' s eyes was nothing more than tears he was holding back.


    — Luciano could hear the murmurs from some of the other kids, not many of them were nice. The eggplant haired could tell Lukas was listening to a few of them, especially when his smile faltered.


    — Thankfully, Lukas was drawn away from the soft murmurs as their chooser approached the two of them. Luciano couldn't help tense up slightly while Lukas seemed to sparkle in delight. It made him wonder if miesters could swap their weapons if they didn't like them, it was a thought that didn't last long as he pushed it back to the darkest recession of his own mind. It wasn't time to be thinking like that. Luciano stared blankly as the girl smiled and said they hoped to work together.


    — "We would totally be okay with being your partners." Luciano was okay with Lukas beating him to speaking, because if he didn't Luciano would have refused.

    Opal grinned at Lukas and then looked back at Luciano, he didn't seem as happy as Lukas. She decided not to be too offended by it. She looked at the two of them then smiled."We are going to celebrate! We can go eat food and go back to my apartment."She didn't mention the fast that she didn't live with her parents. Her mother was dead while her father was a drunk, but her grandfather sent large sums of money as long as she did well in school and such. It was enough to live pretty comfortably, but her apartment was much too big for her. It had another room in it that she used for guests, which was useless since she didn't have any friends to sleep over. She hoped that if they liked the apartment that they would move in. The girl was lonely, but she would never admit it to anyone."I'm Opal!"The child added. She may be skilled, but some weapons were relieved that she hasn't chosen. Nobody wanted to say that they had a child as their meister."You guys have really cool weapon forms! I love swords!"She rambled, since she was a very talkative and hyper child.

    — The sharp slate grey orbs watched as Lukas sent a grin toward him as Opal mentioned food and a celebration. Luciano wasn't big on parties or large gatherings, but he supposed it was because he was accustomed to being alone or only being with Lukas for practically his entire life. His mother, what he got to know of her, was a whore. She brought home countless men, he knew she had been pregnant twice before him and Lukas. He had two other half-brothers that he knew nothing about. He didn't know his father, though he must've been pretty shady. His reminiscing was interrupted by Lukas, "You should totally make your special dish, the one with the eggplants and tomatoes!" the tomato-haired teen grinned.


    — Luciano sighed, "Maybe. Guess that's up to her." the eggplant-haired male wasn't gonna get to involved with Opal. She was probably no better than everyone else they've met, they're gonna use him and Lukas until they reach their goal then throw them away. It had been the same each time.


    — Lukas must have read his facial expression, before sending a comforting smile. "It's gonna be different this time, I can feel it." the teen assured. Luciano blinked, wasn't it the older brother's job to comfort the younger brother, not the other way around? "Heh, I guess I'll give it a shot..." when Lukas was so sure about something, Luciano couldn't do anything but give in. It surprised Luciano at how much of him Lukas had wrapped around his finger.


    — "You like our forms? Just wait until you see us in action. I think we're pretty cool~!" Lukas grinned at Opal. Luciano silently agreed, however he had yet to figure out the extent of each of their abilities. Perhaps being used together with Opal with open new doors and possibilities for development.

    The little girl listened to them talk and her smile faltered a bit. She had always wanted siblings, but her father never remarried and her mother died giving birth to Opal. She listened to the two brothers banter and she had to remind herself that they were real family. She would always be on the outside, even if she managed to get them to like her. She placed her hand over her eyepatch before bringing it to her side."You can cook if you want! I mostly live off of noodles..."People tended to forget that Opal was a child, a mature child, but still a child. She didn't really know how to cook that well and she needed a stool just reach her stove. Opal nodded happily."I'm excited to use you two in battle! That's why I picked you guys! I need something in both of my hands."That was party true, the other part was that two weapons meant more company for her. Opal grinned at the two teens, her one aqua eye beaming up at them."C'mon! I even have cake...birthday cake. It's your birthday today , right?"She asked Lukas. She had managed to figure out both of their birthdays, she was desperately trying to figure out ways to get on their good side.

    — Lukas grinned, it was a very exciting birthday. It was a change from the lonely birthday's spent with Luciano, not that it was a bad thing. It was just he grew up with the idea of all his friends coming to a set place and eating cake and ice cream, only to have that idea shattered much like a mirror. So being around another person, even if it's just one more, made him happy. Getting Luciano to fix his traditional dish that he learned from one of their foster families cookbooks was great too. "Guess it's settled then." Luciano spoke up. Lukas knew why Luciano was avoiding conversation, but he did take notice of the phantom of a smile that briefly graced his features. If Lukas hadn't knew the rebellious teen all his life, he probably wouldn't have caught the smile.


    — When Opal mentioned that she was excited to use both him and Luciano in battle made him ecstatic. He wasn't really familiar with such nice words, so it was something different. He remembered when they would take turns to train each other since they didn't have a meister of their own. They found out a lot of their skills, but both still had much to learn. The brothers were counterparts, they were opposites of each other. However they worked in sync with one goal in mind. "heheh, I won't give any hints to what we can do. I want it to be a surprise when we start training." Lukas said, the now-seventeen-year-old placed a finger over his lips and sent a playful wink in Opal's direction.


    — "B-birthday? Eheh yeah mines today. I just hit seventeen." Lukas nodded. It was strange to have someone other than themselves know of their birthday. The tomato-haired male knew that got his brother's attention as the sharp slate oculars focused on Opal for a long moment. "Why would you...find that out?" Luciano asked softly. If Lukas guessed, he'd say Luciano was confused. He probably wouldn't be to far off.

    Opal grinned, she was excited to actually get a cooked meal. She had just run out of the noodles and all she had left was a bunch of vegetables."I don't know what you need to make it, but we can go to the supermarket to pick stuff up!"She was still smiling at the two of them. She knew that the three of them had more things in common then what most people think. She was lonely and she hoped that these two would give her some company. Opal just shrugged at his words before smiling."I wanted to know and...."She trailed off, her voice failing. Her one eye looking at her feet with a frown. She didn't think she should admit she found out because she hoped that it would get them to like her."It doesn't matter, we should be celebrating Lukas's birthday. We can even buy balloons and stuff if you want!"She suggested. Opal hadn't actually celebrated a birthday in years! She was excited to do so with other people.

    — "I don't think balloon or any decorations are needed. It is just a birthday." Lukas laughed nervously. While he did like the idea of having a birthday party, there wasn't enough people to even bother to put in so much hard work. Cake, ice cream and Luciano's food would be enough for him this time. Having Opal involved this time around made him satisfied enough so they didn't need to go the extra measure.


    — "To the store?" Lukas questioned, only to get an affirmative echo. "To the store." Luciano echoed with a nod. Lukas grinned widely before darting on ahead with a motion to follow.

    Opal nodded and followed after them, but made sure to walk behind them. She didn't really knew where she stood with the two of them at this exact moment. She didn't really say much else until they were out of the building and she stopped as she looked out to the street. There were a couple of kids that were around her age, running and playing. They were giggling and laughing while they tugged on their mother's hand. She watched for a few moment before quickly following the two brothers again. She always tried to her best to hide the fact that she was a little girl, hiding her smiles every time they walked past a toy vendor or a candy shop. She was unable to hide her smile as she saw puppies in the window of a pet store, standing on her toes to get a better look before running after Lukas and Luciano."So, you know how to use a stove? Can you teach me? I'm tired of eating noodles and chips every day! I wanna eat real food!"She said with a grin. Opal grinned as they reached the supermarket before pulling out some money, handing it to Luciano."Here!"She then put the wallet away. Opal didn't think that Luciano liked her very much and Lukas seemed to like her, but they were clearly very close."So...what's it like to have a brother?"She asked, trying to make conversation.

    — Luciano walked along side his brother, occasionally bumping shoulders. He took notice that Opal didn't really speak much after Lukas darted on ahead. Once they caught up to the cheerful tomato, she stayed a bit behind them. He assumed she felt out of place with them or something similar because they were brothers. For a normal person, they would say they dislike their brother or sister, but after all the things they've been through it was the total opposite. It was to be expected after so many years of trials. He wasn't sure what Opal may have expected.


    — When she came up beside him, he could help but flinch over into Lukas' s space. He wasn't really expecting that actually, and most people who suddenly pop up beside him or Lukas had really bad intentions. He hated to think about what happened last time. Lukas wrapped his thin fingers around his wrist, squeezing lightly. He was smiling at Opal, as he answered first. "We both know how to use the stove. I think Luci is better though since he learned how to cook for us when we were little and left home alone." The tomato-haired weapon grinned. "I guess we can teach you." Luciano said a moment or two after. To be honest, while he didn't completely trust Opal, he was okay with teaching the girl useful skills.


    — Luciano blinked as she asked about having a sibling, she probably would have asked such a thing if she had one or two. Luciano shrugged, "It's nice, I guess." he wasn't sure what it was like having a brother. After all being born with a brother becomes a normal thing after so many years. "It's like...we're the same person but different too. Or I guess you could compare us to the moon and Sun." Luciano spoke. His voice carried something that resembled fondness.

    Opal watched as Lukas wrapped his hand around Luciano's wrist, her eyes watching them closely as she looked down at her own hands. She repeated the same action, but she didn't really understand why this seemed to help Luciano feel better. She didn't come from the most loving family so the only forms of affection was getting a pat on the head whenever she did something good. She grinned when they spoke about teaching her."Really? Yay! Thank you!"She said happily before stopping as he described what it was like to have siblings. It sounded nice, the two of them seemed happy together."I always wanted a brother or a sister..."She trailed off before shaking her head."You guys will like my apartment! It's really big and I live alone so I don't have many rules! I can do whatever I want! We can eat all the sweets and watch tv really late! It's so much fun!"She seemed excited to have people over at her home. Opal tugged on the hem of their shirts, trying to pull them forward."C'mon! I think there is a sale..."She muttered. She walked over to the noddles, grabbed a whole bunch and putting them in a cart. The cart was a bit too large for her, but she managed."Now, what do you need for the food?"She asked, pushing the cart over to them. She accidentally bumped Lukas with the cart as she did so since she couldn't see so well over the cart."Did I hit something?"She asked.

    — Lukas sent a glance towards his own brother, he avoided speaking about the strange synchronization they did when they're fighting together or in trouble. It was weird. Lukas smiled, "Well, you shouldn't be left without needed abilities. I think it'd be boring to eat noodles all the time." Lukas said. He was sure that Luciano was thinking the same thing. Lukas hesitated when Opal mentioned her own apartment and staying there, he faltered even more so when she mentioned she stayed alone. While he was happy he was celebrating his own birthday with another, and also happy to be chosen first for a change. Lukas has not thought that far ahead, and while they lived in a small apartment themselves, he was a bit uncomfortable thinking about moving in with someone they barely knew. Even if it was their meister.


    — Lukas was able to cover his uncertainty with a bright smile, and nodded along. "I'm sure it'll be wonderful." The tomato-haired teen hummed. He supposed staying up late and eating sweets was a pretty big deal for a ten-year-old. Lukas -- and sometimes Luciano -- stay up pass ten but they figured out they can't function correctly if they stay up pass twelve.


    — Lukas watched Opal bound off to get some noodles, and grab a cart. The girl was a bit shorter than said cart and bumped into him. It wasn't hard enough to hurt, but it made him stiffen up slightly. "Heheh, nevermind that. We should get shopping." Lukas laughed lightly.


    — "For the dish, I'm making eggplant parmesan. So we'll need a large baking pan, eggplants, bread crumbs, pasta sauce, two types of graded cheese, Tomatoes. Anything else that we need, me and Lukas will worry about." Luciano informed whe Opal returned. It was as of the list of items needed were implanted in his head since he said that so smoothly. Luciano must've memorized it a while ago.

    Opal was able to feel their uncertainty. She was pretty good at picking up things like that and it made her confidence go down a bit. She was getting too excited about all of this. She pushed the cart, just following them as they walked."It's fun having other people to shop with!"She said with a grin. People who knew she lived alone were always worried. She had been on her own for two years and she had a trust fund thanks to her dead grandparents so she didn't really understand the big deal."I-I...I wasn't talking about you guys moving in earlier, I was just excited about celebrating your birthday. I know it's weird moving in with someone you barely know. I know that I'm putting way too much effort into trying to impress you guys..."She said with a small smile as she pushed the cart. Her one eye looking at them as she was unaware of a old women coming towards the until her cart hit Opal's. It was on her left side, her blind side. She quickly turned her head, mumbling an apology as she kept moving. She blushed, that was embarrassing."No, you guys are my guests! I should the one worrying!"She says with a smile.
