hard. cold. withdrawn. quiet. these are the things you will pick up about astrid during your initial meeting. you'll notice how she speaks in clipped sentences and only smiles a polite, tense little smirk that both infuriates you and makes you wonder how someone could manage to control their cheek muscles that well.

when you meet again, your impression of her stays resolutely the same. she nods politely to you, and you go to greet her in turn, but she's already walked off.

the third time is a little different. you notice a spark behind her eyes, a mischievous edge to the curve of her lips. she seems to be holding back laughter, and she clearly struggles to uphold her diplomatic appearance. it isn't until you hear later that someone glued all of mrs. wiccham's supplies to her desk that you make the connection.

    cold. withdrawn. quiet. and mischievous.

after this revelation, it becomes easier to approach her, to talk to her. she still acts cold and stiff, but bits and pieces of her personality shine through once in a while. she likes to play games. enjoys riding her bike, but otherwise isn't the most physically active. she has a penchant for chess. she's great at math but literature is not her forte.

you also learn that she can be incredibly defensive and rude. she has a surprisingly short fuse, and her anger is kind of like waiting for a volcano to erupt. only, it never does- it just sort of sits there, boiling and festering into a sort of darkness that hangs around for a couple of days.

the first time you hear her laugh, it's surprising for two reasons. for one, the joke wasn't even that funny, and for two... well, her laughter is goofy. she guffaws and chuckles and snorts, and sometimes it goes high-pitched and other times it goes low. she wraps her arms around herself and doubles over, tears building up in the corner of her eyes and she laughs and laughs.

somehow, you think, it suits her.

[fancypost bgcolor=;border:0px;width:330px;text-align:justify;line-height:13px;font-size:12pt][font=cordiaupc][color=indianred]Shit! That was it... My final strike. Gone. Poof! I had really done it now, hadn't I? I sat down on the front porch of my house, draping my hand over my knees and running the other through my short, dark hair. I let out a defeated sigh, my grey-colored orbs focused on the rock-solid ground before me. I had fucked up real bad, and I mean real bad. My parents and I have never been on good terms ever since I told them their daughter was gay. The second I spilled my secret, they began to curse and yell at me stating that 'it's just a phase', or 'you're getting damned straight to hell', even 'i will not accept my daughter as a lesbian. it's downright disgusting and sinful'. Yeah, it hurt way more than I expected it to, but eventually I got over it. Sometimes I'd have those days where I'd wish I was still a closeted gay and my parents would still love me. I was happy I did so anyways. At least I didn't have to hide anymore. It was even worse when I admited I had a girlfriend too. I was put on heavy lockdown and wasn't able to do anything for a month at the least.

Well, now today they didn't have to worry about feeding me and all that other shit. I was no longer their daughter and they were no longer my parents. It had finally reached the point to where they wanted absolutely nothing to do to with me, so they decided to throw me out. Fantastic. I know. I was only 16 years old and nowhere near close to finishing high school. I had no job, no money, no food, nothing. The only thing I have that I truly care about is my girlfriend, Astrid. God, was I lucky to have her? She's a straight-A student whom most teachers liked- except for a few. She was the girl who could make you smile with just herself alone, with her melodious laugh and mischievous grin. I was still trying to figure out why she chose to date me, a lame, awkward person who had no friends and liked to spend most of their time doodling or listening to music while she could've chosen someone who was way better than me in every division. I had nothing special to give, no talents either. If I were to have a talent, it would be pissing people off with my very existence. My parents weren't the only ones who despised me. It was Astrid's parents too. Ever since they found out she was dating a complete loser like me who also happened to be a female, you can believe they flipped their shit.

They had been giving Astrid a hard time and it was all because of me. They tried everything in their power to keep us away from each other, and I admit it has worked multiple times, but in the end, we always end up breaking their rules. Sighing, I took my phone from out of my pocket and texted her. In those few minutes I spent outside, I had thought of a plan. It wasn't necessarily a good one, but it was worth a shot. It was our chance to escape everything and live the way we wanted. Although we were just a couple of teens who had nothing, I knew we had some kind of chance. Soon I began to tap the keyboard on my phone. 'Hey, are your parents home right now? I need to tell you something that's extremely important.' I typed before hitting send.

&&I had a huge muse burst with this post. Sorry ^u^

The angry slam of a door echoed eerily in the the vacant living room. It was the only noise left in the large, quiet house, except for her own labored breathing as she struggled to keep herself together. Her arm ached and her eyes stung with barely hidden tears. She scrubbed harshly at her bottle-green eyes, sniffling softly as she did, and allowed the action to distract her from her own misery.

The argument had been expected since the moment she had unexpectedly announced her sexuality, and then revealed the existence of a girlfriend.

The looks on their faces had been priceless, but she had been too busy being terrified and nervous to fully appreciate it. Hell, it was still hard to think of as funny, especially since it had led to this. Their initial reaction had been dismissal, of course, since her parents were very practiced in the art of dismissing. "Oh, that's very funny, Astrid. Now finish your food."
After she refused to laugh, however, the reaction morphed into one of desperate denial- - "Our daughter is not a homosexual. You will stop this foolishness." It went on like this for quite a while, until the brunette rolled her eyes and exasperatedly showed them a picture of her girlfriend. It was her favorite - something they'd taken while hanging out in a park after school. Kielan was leaning in to kiss her, while Astrid herself shot the camera a cheeky look only reinforced by the suggestive raise of the eyebrows.

After that, they sort of... shut down. They didn't speak, just silently finished their dinner and excused themselves.

Not exactly the response she'd hoped for.

Sighing softly to herself, Astrid reflected on this as she pushed a lock of hair from her face. It was stifling here, and she needed some air, anyway, so she quickly snatched her favorite jacket (a fuzzy black one, with the picture of a fox printed on its center - it had been a gift from Keilan, and she absolutely adored it), her phone, and a pair of sneakers that clashed terribly against the elegant maroon summer dress she wore.

The couple had managed to keep their calm for a whole month before the dam broke, and honestly, that was pretty impressive to her. She'd almost begun to believe that they'd simply choose to ignore her for the rest of her life, since kicking her out wasn't an option (the press would have a field day) and they weren't exactly the 'hands-on type'.

But when they allowed all of the staff to leave early, sporting cold, indifferent smiles as they caught her eye, Astrid knew that today would be the last of the silent treatment.

What followed was perhaps the worst fight she'd ever been in. Hurtful words had been tossed back and forth- her father had yelled for perhaps the first time in her entire life, while the disapproving stare of her mother had bored into her mind. Absently, she rubbed her forearm in memory of the way her father gripped it. He hadn't meant to hurt her, she was sure, but the faint outline of fingerprints were beginning to bloom into bright purple bruises.

Blinking at the sting in her eyes, Astrid sniffed and shook her head violently. "Do not cry, do not cry," she muttered to herself like a mantra, gripping her arm to distract herself. A cold breeze brushed against her, and she basked in the feeling. She felt lonely and upset, and all she wanted to do was see Kielan again. It had been a long time since their last meeting, even if they had managed to text each other every day. She ached to hold the other girl, to run a hand through her short brunette hair and land a kiss on her cute nose.

Almost as if sensing her thoughts, the phone in her pocket vibrated. She considered ignoring it, thinking that it was parents trying to remind her how much of a disappointment she was, but in the end curiosity gave way. Swiftly, she took the small device in her hands, and was pleased to see that the little Message from Doodle Poodle light up her screen. Immediately, she swiped to the right and unlocked it, lips pulling into a bright smile-

...which immediately dimmed upon seeing the message. Worry creased her brow, and Astrid bit her lip in a nervous habit. Silently, she typed out a reply.

theyll be gone for three weeks. diplomat stuff. y? whats wrong?

She tapped the 'send' button before she could correct her own deplorable spelling.

[fancypost bgcolor=;border:0px;width:330px;text-align:justify;line-height:13px;font-size:12pt][font=cordiaupc][color=indianred]I let out a relieved breath once I saw my girlfriend's I.D pop up at the top of the screen. I had honestly though she wouldn't answer mostly because of the fact her parents were being complete nuts. My fingers swiftly began to maneuver over the digital keyboard as I typed back my response. 'Well for starters, my parents kicked me out the house' I informed her, continuing on with the message, 'Anyways, I want you to start packing up whatever you can, okay? I'll explain everything once I get there.' Send. I then ended the text with an 'I love you.' followed by and excessive amount of heart and kissy emojis which was normal. Slipping my phone into the back pocket of my dirtied up jeans, I rose to my feet. This was it. Wasn't it? The house I stood in front of was no longer mine. After most of my years growing up there, making amazing memories, and having an amazing family (As so I thought), it was hard to believe I wasn't allowed back. It actually made my eyes tear up at the realization. To most people's shock, I wasn't really a crier. Like when someone dies or something tragic happens, I don't get all whiny about it. I'd probably shrug it off before saying 'I'm sorry for your loss' or something along those lines. Did I also mention I was really bad at comforting people too? If you came up to me bawling yours eyes out, I'd have no idea what to do or say besides sit there awkwardly patting your back. I'm an awful person, aren't I?

I soon wiped away the few tears that managed to escape my eyes and run down my pale cheeks. Once I was finished recollected myself, I set off to Astrid's house. I was more than eager to see her beautiful face once again after not seeing it in awhile. I longed for her to hold me in her arms while I rested my head on her shoulder and she ran her hands through my hair. I just really needed her presence right now.

I began to make my way through the busy streets of the city, the chilled air rushing through my brunette hair as I strolled my way down the sidewalks, hands tucked into my pockets. I was lucky Astrid didn't live too far away from me. Maybe just a couple blocks down the road and I'd be there. I did take this moment of solitude to clear my thoughts a bit. Just the sound of the cars whooshing by, and the occasional sound of barking dogs or the meowing of stray cats had somewhat put me to ease. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of Astrid's house. No lie, her house was pretty damn big. Well, at least compared to mine. I slowly approached the doorstep, feeling a bit self-conscious. I knew I was being a bit ridiculous and Astrid wouldn't call me out or make fun of me or anything like that, I just didn't feel like myself. Finally, I built up enough courage to ring the house's doorbell. Taking a small step back, I waited for the doors to open.

The response was immediate, and Astrid felt a rush of surprise, and then anger, and finally confusion as she read through the words displayed on her screen. Her finger's paused over the keyboard, unsure what to respond with. What could she say? I'm sorry? Are you okay? Are you hurt? all flashed through her mind, but it didn't seem right to ask over a text.
As she was contemplating what to right, her phone vibrated once more.

The I love you was followed by several heart and kissing emoji's, and a surprised giggle escaped her lips. Her face flushed pleasantly, and with a shake of her head, Astrid settled on a short ok and lov you too. She was still grinning when she made her way indoors, intent on following her girlfriend's instructions. She made a quick trip upstairs, grabbing a nearby backpack, and began to stuff her clothes into it. She had a niggling suspicion she knew what this was about, and her fingers trembled with barely-compressed nerves. Still, she soldiered resiliently on, taking deep breaths as she did.

In the middle of the packing process, she began to reconsider the outfit she was wearing. She wondered if she should change, and after a brief moment of debate, she simply compromised by slipping a slim pair of jeans on under the dress. It looked strange, but it felt a lot better to have them on.

Taking a cursory glance about her room, Astrid's eyes caught on a picture in the corner. It was the only one she had of herself and her parents. Since they'd never been too close, they never had many chances to take group photos. This one was one of the few that they had; the whole family, gathered together over what seemed to be an engrossing game of Uno.

Little-Astrid was grinning at her dad, who was wearing an expression of dismay as he stared at his hand. Her mother was giggling silently, clutching her own cards to her chest. It made Astrid's heart ache to see, and silently, she grabbed the photo from the frame before she put it in her pocket.

Just as she did, the doorbell rang. Astrid jumped, startled, before she shook her head and grabbed the backpack she'd packed. Hurriedly, she took the stairs two at a time, scurrying to the door in record time. She opened the door with surprising force, and the hinges squeaked in protest.

Astrid ignored that, though, because she was too busy tackling her girlfriend into a hug.

[fancypost bgcolor=;border:0px;width:330px;text-align:justify;line-height:13px;font-size:12pt][font=cordiaupc][color=indianred]Soon the door was open and out came my girlfriend. I didn't even have a second before she engulfed me in a bear hug. I smiled sheepishly, nearly losing my balance as she tackle-hugged me. I then wrapped my arms around her waist, burying my head into the crook of her neck. I could feel the heat rushing to my cheeks as I breathed in her familiar, comforting scent. Oh God, I couldn't explain how happy I was to see her. I then pulled away from our hug, taking her face in between the palms of my hands and pulled her face closer to mine until our lips met in a sweet but short kiss. I smiled as I broke away from the kiss, dropping my hands to my side. It had been years- or so it seemed - since I got to tast her on my lips.

I looked up at the taller girl, my grey eyes lighter than usually. I figured it was time to explain to her why I wanted her to pack her stuff. Sure it wasn't the smartest, most well-thought-out plan, but it was something. "[b]Okay, so the reason I asked you to do all that is because I want to run away with you..." The moment that came out of my mouth, I instantly regretted it. How in my right mind did I think she would agree on an idea that was so incredibly stupid. Running away? It sounded like I was some kind of wanted criminal. Hell, we weren't even the age of 18 yet. Even if she did accept it, Astrid's parents would freak out when they found she was missing. The authorities would be called, then we would really get into a load of trouble if we were to get caught. After mentally slapping myself due to my foolishness, I opened my mouth to speak again. "I-I know it sounds unbelievably bad, but this is our only chance to be free without anyone trying to tear us away from each other. I mean, I'm on my own now and your parents already gives you enough crap, so why not? It's not fair for you to stay there and get yelled at because of me," I told her with a small sigh.

    &&Sorry this one's so short ;;

[aw cool, i was looking for this thread c:
    sorry for the late reply!]
Astrid felt her girlfriend stumble beneath the sudden weight, but somehow the shorter girl managed to keep her balance. The long-haired brunette gave a small, surprised giggle as Kielen pulled back and landed a small peck on her lips. It was hard to describe the storm of emotions rolling through her; the familiar warmth of the smaller body comforted Astrid, and the girl's previously tense muscles relaxed.

That happy bubble was abruptly popped as Kielen spoke up, and Astrid couldn't help shuffling away and staring at the short-haired girl in surprise. Of course, she had suspected her girlfriend's reasons, but to hear the words out loud... it was... disquieting. Probably even stranger was that Astrid was actually considering the offer seriously.

It was stupid. Beyond stupid, really. They were both still in highschool - Astrid had two parents who would freak out if she did this. There was no way she'd last the night on the streets. But even still, the young female considered it, pushing her bottom lip between her teeth in thought.

Her parents would come around. They had too. There was no need to - to do something like this. But when Astrid looked at Kielen, she knew that she wouldn't be able to last staying away from her any more. She knew that they could take care of each other - knew that no matter what, Kielen wouldn't do anything to hurt her.

It stung that the same couldn't be said about her mom and dad.

"...okay," she breathed, fingers shaking with some emotion she couldn't describe. "Okay. Okay, let's do this." She clasped her girlfriend's hands in in hers, and began to grin wildly. "Let's run away together.'

I stared up at her with a blank expression, blinking my grey orbs a few times. "Eh... What?" I responded quite dumbly. Did I even hear her right? I repeated what she had said to me in my head once again before snapping back into reality. I finally realized that she agreed to run away with me. Astrid-- the all-A's, exceptionally smart, Astrid. My girlfriend, Astrid. For the first time in her life she had chosen the most stupid decision to make. After my few minutes and standing there stupidly, I opened my mouth to speak. "U-uh, s-seriously? Your serious?" I questioned to confirm her answer.
Of course I didn't need her to reply back to know that she meant it. She had that wild grin pasted on her face and a fire in her eyes. I could feel her hands tremble on my hands with mixed emotions that were unknown to me.
I couldn't help but return her a big grin and raise my eyebrows. I then wrapped my arms around her neck and began to laugh into her shoulder. "Hehe, We're seriously screwed now, yeah?" I giggled wholeheartedly. We were really deep into frying pan now. I didn't mind too much, though. As long as I had her, I could do anything. Corny, I know, but I really felt that way.

Astrid laughed, clutching Kielen to her as she did. "Definitely," she managed between giggles. Her whole body was shaking, but she didn't know why- it could have been excitement, or dread, or anxiety. It didn't matter, though, because this was the dumbest idea of her life and she was so happy. "Where the hell are we even gonna go?" she asked, pulling back from their embrace. She was still grinning, and a couple more chuckles escaped her lips, but the question was serious. She had no family that lived in the US, and her friends weren't the kind to extend their home for two runaway lesbians.

Still, looking at her girlfriend, Astrid did not regret her decision. The short-haired girl looked so happy, her grey eyes shining with a warm mirth that made everything worth it. She looked so beautiful, without even trying. The thought of denying that, of ever being away from her, was an impossible one.
