  • Okay, so we have the lamest science teacher because she never explains proper crap to us, which leaves almost all of us so damned clueless. She doesn't even give us any help, which really sucks because we only have 2 weeks to finish this assignment, and I'm struggling.
    So we have to research gemstones in Australia. I chose the zircon, and I'm yet to find who found it and how the zircon's formation works using heat & pressure, weather & erosion etc (since it's a igneous and sedimentary rock).
    Right now I have no idea how the zircon was formed, how it's extracted/mined and prepared for use. I've looked on a lot of sites and books, but nothin' ain't helpin' me. Help? ;-;
    I'll do any favor in return <3

  • Well Zircon is a December Birthstone and it is known to be a cheaper substitute for Diamonds. They come out in colors such as black, clear, red, light blue etc. I am on mobile i will give more information when i am at home.

    Also it is an igneous and metamorphic rock. It has no sedimentary. It has a hardness of 7.5. I suggest you look on minerals.net for more info.

  • No. I am taking geology right now. Igneous rocks form at the surface and gems like quartz are the last rocks to form from lava. The chemical fomula for Zircon is ZrSiO4(could be wrong but this is close) it is basically quartz with Zr in it.
