Buttercup had mostly been outside today, enjoying the breeze that passed through their fur. And though it had been a bit breezy, it was also remarkably warm for this time of year. They really enjoyed the weather, and thought it was such a nice sign! Maybe spring would be coming soon this year? They sure hoped so. Then they could see more of those flowers for which they were named! Wouldn't that be lovely?
They rested in a tree, high above the ground, taking pleasure in the thrilling height and the way the wind made the branches sway. They were a goody goody, but they also liked themselves a bit of adventure sometimes! Buttercup giggled as birds and stray leaves zipped by their head, ears twitching playfully, claws digging into the branch to ensure their safety.
Ah, but that didn't last long!
Buttercup soon found themselves tumbling through open air. They had opened their eyes for this, which was quite a rare thing for them, no doubt. The child's chocolatey brown orbs darted around, fear coursing through their body as they realized what was happening. Oh, dear. Oh, no. This would not be good.
With a sickening crack, the child hit the ground. They weren't dead, but they weren't exactly okay. But Buttercup could handle it, couldn't they? They could handle anything, as long as they stayed DETERMINED! But this pain was too much. They already knew that multiple bones had broken, and though they hadn't closed their eyes again, their vision was fading. Oh, no. That couldn't be good.
"O-ouch...!" Buttercup cried, but their voice was weak. The brown tabby wrapped themselves into a tight ball. Or, they tried to- it hurt too much to really move at all. They bit their lip to keep from crying now, trying to stay strong and save themselves some embarrassment later. Oh, no, this couldn't be good....
