  • Umm... So, this post is just to get this thread up, as I don't really have that much time right now. But this is it! I made it! Yayyyy! :P

  • Okay. So, right now I have two game ideas bouncing around. They both involve RPG style stuff, as they both stemmed from me realizing that RPG Maker was only seventy dollars and, assuming I don't blow my entire allowance at Anime Boston, I could get it within a few months.
The first is more interactive story than true RPG, and in a few broad strokes, it's basically a space opera world, set on a specific planet that is on the brink of war. A diplomat from the interplanetary alliance called Scion (the player character, haven't decided her name yet) goes down to attempt to stop the planet's native Alhallva, a type of plant people, from going to war. However, the diplomatic talks backfire, and one side (haven't decided yet whether it's two sides of Alhallva, or one side are invaders from another planet.) one side attacks, ending the talks, and the majority of the game is this diplomat and a young Alhallva she saves from the attack trying to escape the planet, and/or trying to stop the war.

  • Of course, neither of these ideas need to be made in RPG Maker, that was just the engine that spawned these ideas.

  • My second idea is a bit more traditional, as far as RPG's go, and it'll probably actually involve RPG-style combat (oh, right, the other one wasn't going to have any traditional combat. Forgot to mention that). The idea for this one is that you are an adventurer who has come to the island city of Balin's Worth (that name was given to me by a friend I haven't seen in a while, so it might not be the final name), seeking something that we (the player) dont know about, and they end up helping lots of people, and at the end (spoilers!) the island is sunk by someone the hero thought was a friend, and they have to fight to stop the city from having the same fate as Atlantis of old

  • That's just a couple of broad overviews, and I have a lot more stuff on these, so if you have questions, feel free to ask. Honestly, I think I'm best at coming up with things when people ask me things I hadn't thought about right on the spot, so don't worry about that... ^_^

  • I really like the concept of the second idea. (Plus Disney's Atlantis is my favorite movie of all time, so I'm a little biased.) It might be because I like the colors that idea makes me think of (mostly yellows and earth tones and nice contrasts and ahhhh I'm in love) or just that the whole thing sounds really exciting. I like how you don't know what you're looking for at first and the endgame climax sounds great. Those are just my thoughts, anyways.

  • Awesome! ^-^ Thank you! The idea I had was a bit more fantasy/magic than that movie (although there was a fair bit of magic in that movie, though.)

  • AH I LOVE THEM BOTH

Also, HUGE fan of Disney's Atlantis. That movie is totally underrated.

But to the point, YELLOW THESE SOUND AWESOME. I would definitely try them both!

  • Oh. Um. Thank you. You're too kind. >< I would do either of them myself, as I came up with them. I don't have a preference, as they're both awesome. But we should probably decide on one of them... I suppose... Also, please anyone feel free to add anything on, if you have a cool idea... I would create a Google Drive, but I don't know if I would be able to get onto a proper computer enough, so this'll have to do for now.

  • The second option has my vote (not saying the first is any less good, of course, I just have a bunch of art ideas for that one overflowing in my head :D ^-^), though obviously the final decision comes down to you. I'm excited to help out! :D

  • I personally am more of an "ancient-fantasy-lore" kind of girl than a "sci-fi space" one. So I'm leaning towards the Atlantis idea. Oh, and do you want to work in puzzles somehow? You know, riddles, a prophecy maybe, or just some standard one-off puzzles? Because I love that in a game. And if the character doesn't know what they're seeking, then planting puzzles, riddles, codes, or just little background items hinting at the artifact's true nature would be a cool way of letting the player pull everything together into a solution.

  • The Atlantis one works!!! I like the idea of a riddle, or something. I know opening scrawls are something you're only supposed to work on after you've got the rest of the game worked out, but it'd be pretty cool to have this one be about the fall of Atlantis... It might be cool to even have quotes from Plato's telling of the story... And then give the player a cryptic clue that hints at things they'll be doing...

It would also be cool to tell the story of the fall of Atlantis throughout the game, and have it be mirrored by the events in Balin's Worth... Sorry. Rambling.

  • Definitely add a twist! Something no one would expect, but that had so much subtle foreshadowing they're all ashamed to have missed it! :D >:D

  • Btw, guys, the character I had come up with who betrays the hero and sinks Balin's Worth is:

    Millicent Brown!
Often called 'Millie' by her friends.
A young woman, probably in her early 20s, with brown hair and hazel-ish eyes.
Pretty unassuming, until you realize that she's the head of a secretive intelligence network. Which most people don't, including the hero for some time.
Turns out she's... Not evil, per se, but definitely questionable.
Which is unexpected because she's normally very cheery, excited, and super friendly.
She betrays the hero near the end, by completing a device that sinks the city of Balin's Worth below the waves, much the same as Atlantis.
It doesn't destroy the city, as that's part of the ritual that she casts.
(Some say it was the fall that destroyed Atlantis, but in reality it was the dreadful truth of what they found under the waves. I'm prepared this time. I will learn the truth.)

  • I like her. What's her motivation? Why does she want to sink the city? Does this conflict with her morals, or is she able to convince herself this isn't bad? Or does she just not have a set of morals to begin with? Is she the type of person who only does something for personal gain, or is there something bigger going on here?
What's her background? Is she a historian or an author with an interest in the story of Atlantis? Is she an artist or musician looking for muse? Or simply a person with twisted ideals and no real other oddity of her person?
Who works for her? Or who does she work for? If there's more to wht than her bubbly personality, what is it?

  • Okay, here's what I got:

Millie always kind of was of a suspicious persuasion, but she was never truly evil. She led a kind of double life, being known to most as a friendly and cheerful aristocrat, and one of the hero's many friends. However, she was also the head of the Invective (still working on the name), a secret organization that dealt in information, and sold it to the highest bidder. But even knowing that much about her, one would never associate her with sinking an entire city. Unless, one takes into account that she was also an avid collecter of Atlantean artifacts. One artifact she comes across, maybe even given to her by the hero, is a sword. Unknown to anyone, though, the sword is a sentient sword named Destroyer. Or Dusk. Also still working on that. The sword begins whispering to her, eventually convincing her through magic and twisted reason to sink the city.
