The woods were dark in winter. Songs in the mornings ceased, joyful laughs and conversation of the wilderness were ignored. It was quiet, besides the harsh wind that blew.
But there was a disturbance, a sound. Crying? Running? Five men in white coats, black pants, and sunglasses, were walking in rhythmic strides. Something was ahead of them, running. No: stumbling. It was stumbling. A figure in blue jeans, no shoes and an oversized red sweatshirt. Go away! From its voice, it was a girl. She looked to be about maybe 16 to 17. Her brown, wavy hair was veiling her face. Her hands were clutching herself, her stomach. It wasn't anything noticeable, but it one looked closely enough, there was a bulge. She was expecting? You're hurting, let us help you. The men spoke at the same time, robotic. The girl looked back. No, no go away! She stumbled over a stone and splashed through a stream, but kept running. You'll hurt him, I know you will. You'll kill him! She was expecting a boy. That was for sure. Natalie... Natalie... Natalie... We wouldn't kill your boy. The girl's name was chanted. She was slowing, her breathing came in quick, shallowing gasps. She couldn't keep up this speed forever.
She stepped on a branch that broke under her bare foot. It jabbed her until she fell, her arm crashing into a stone. She screamed. It was broken. Anyone could tell with a scream like that. The men all smiled at the same time. She brushed her hair out of her face with her bloodied arm, smearing her own blood on her forehead. No, no! Help! she wailed, her hands automatically going to the bump on her belly.

Suddenly, something swooped across the sky, a very large figure with wings landed a few feet away. A boy, maybe 16 or so, grinning. "Hey. I don't believe we've met before, I'm Paul. Need some help?" Paul said, before stepping forwards and picking her up, princess style. He took two steps, and jumped, flapping his wings strongly [xD] and lifted her and himself off the ground, getting higher and higher up.
-
Natalie gasped at him, but she couldn't struggle. Something about him told her his was good, not like those men. She began to cry even harder. "What?" was the only thing she could manage before she passed out, her hand on her belly. She felt safe in his arms, even though she'd never met him before. At least she was away from those men. Those men that chanted her name and wanted to hurt her. Paul was it? She thought as she was passed out.
-
Paul shrugged, "Im Paul. Don;t worry, I'm gonna help you." He said, flicking his golden blond hair out of his eyes, and quieted as she went limp in his arms.
-
Natalie's brown hair with light blonde highlights fell over his arm as he carried her. Something moved inside her and that's what woke her up. She was on the ground with Paul standing to the side. W-what? was all she could think.
-
"Im Paul." He said, waving slightly.
-
She nodded and tried to stand up. "Whoa," she lost her balance but managed to stay standing. "Natalie," she muttered. She looked at him. "Listen thanks, those men would've kill my... would've killed me. But," she began to back away, "I-I gotta go..."
-
Listen, you're in no condition toleave. You stay with me untill youcan go, and you can go. Kay?" Paul said slowly.
-
She looked Paul up and down, pushing thoughts away. "You're not any whitecoat are you?" her face blanketed with terror by the thought.
-
Paul shrugged, "Nope." He said.
-
Surprising relief overwelmed her and she sat down criss cross. "Good," she muttered. Her hand automatically went to her stomach but she glanced at Paul and pretended to be sratching her arm.
-
Paul looked at her weirdly, but shrgged and walked over to a tree.
-
She fiddled with her coat. "So, what now?" she said awkwardly.
-
"I dunno." Paul said, shrugging.
-
She stood up and wobbled a bit. "Well, then I better go find my brother." She began to walk away and waved at him. "Thanks again,'' she said.
-
"I'll go with you." Paul said.
-
Natalie swallowed and just turned to the forest. Her brother would be in a small cabin someplace inside the woods. She didn't know how far and she didn't know how this Paul was going to react to her brother, but if she doesn't try she doesn't find him and he was the only family she had left.
-
Paul followed slowly, not sure what to do.
-
Natalie felt an awkward moment and decided she would like to be friends. "So, how did you know I was in trouble?"
-
"I was flying over you, and saw you." Paul said.
