They had their arranged meeting times, and that was that. But some things couldn't wait for planned times, and this was one of those times. He needed Jake, now. So here he was, standing at the border, looking tense and worn.

"Uh, is a Jake English here? Kinda need 'im." He called out, lashing his tail side to side. "Tell 'im his fiancé's lookin' for 'im."

He had been taking a walk in the territory, not necessarily having a goal of a specific location, before he stumbled upon someone at the border. A joiner, perhaps? No. He instantly realized who it was. It was Dirk. Dirk Strider. His fiancé. Why was he here? Jake wanted more time; he didn't want Dirk to see him like this, especially when Jake was still unused to his own deafness. He was barely able to read lips and a majority of his words came out rather slurred and at a weird volume - either too loud or too quiet. It was too soon. Jake needed more time. Then again, wasn't he happy to see him? Of course Jake was. Why wouldn't he be? Jake felt as if it had been ages since they had last seen each other.

"Dirk." The word flowed out of his mouth rather easily, as he had grown accustomed to saying it so much. Jake sounded rather confused, actually, but that was for his own reasons. His emerald eyes were fixated on Dirk as he stood there for a couple of seconds, arching an invisible eyebrow as he took note of Dirk's appearance. Dirk looked rather tired, in Jake's opinion, but that assumption could be wrong. He didn't want to say it because it might come out as an insult and that was the last thing he wanted to do. "Is something wrong?" His words came out slurred, almost as if he was intoxicated, yet that obviously wasn't the case as he looked pretty sober.

Jake hoped that Dirk's answer wouldn't be too intricate, especially since Jake was unable to understand long answers whenever he attempted to read lips.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px solid white; text-align: justify; width: 350px;] And there he was. That was good, Dirk didn't really want to have to wait awkwardly at the border. He offered a semi-forced smile to him, trying to perk up a bit. He didn't want to worry Jake, even though he had come to him with pressing matters that was eating him up inside.

Jake's words sounded weird, but Dirk wouldn't question it. He had better things to be talking about as of right now. "Yeah, admittedly." He shrugged, looking away for a second before turning back to him. "We can talk about it in private, if you'd prefer, but I don't care. I just need to... talk."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Jake didn't answer.

All that Dirk had said went by too fast and Jake only had time to read a quarter of the words, if something. Yeah, ---. We can ---- ------ it in ------, --- you'd -------, --- I ---- ----- -----. I ---- need --- ----. That was all that Jake had managed to read and in all honesty, it was nothing compared to how many words he must have missed. Therefore, Jake had no way of knowing what Dirk was attempting to convey. Jake had no way of answering and any attempts might be fatal. However, it was quite clear that something was wrong, and the last thing Jake wanted to do was burden Dirk with his own problems, so he decided that he would try his best. After all, Dirk came to see him, and Jake needed to try his best to give Dirk what he needed. That was how it worked, correct?

A couple of minutes passed. Jake had been looking down on the ground before he glanced back up again. Jake looked uncertain and unfocused before he asked in a rather loud tone of voice, "Repeat, please. Slower." Of course, it was loud unintentionally, because Jake couldn't control the volume of his own voice and his volume often went from low to high. Jake kept his eyes on Dirk, focused and alert; this time, he was determined to catch everything that Dirk had said. He already had some part of the message, he just needed to fill in the blanks.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px solid white; text-align: justify; width: 350px;] Dirk was relatively surprised, of course, when Jake didn't respond, and then when he was asked to repeat it slower. Something was wrong with his fiance's hearing, he could tell that from a mile away, but they could get to that later. Muttering something to himself, he cleared his throat, then continued in telepathy. After all, why not make good use of that power?

"Jake, she's dead." He whispered into his mind (if Jake didn't block his mind, that is), looking away again. It was obvious he was troubled. "Impavid's dead and I have no idea what to do. Lucy's leader now, but she's putting me in charge for a while, and I'm stressed out and sad over Impavid's death and I don't know what to do."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- Jake visibly flinched when he heard Dirk's voice in his head, since it seemed so unreal, yet he slowly relaxed despite remaining tense. It felt rather strange, though Jake supposed that he had to get used to it sooner or later. He had to be grateful that Dirk had that power, since it saved Jake a lot of embarrassment and time of attempting to figure out what Dirk was saying.

Wait, Impavid was dead? Jake remembered her. In fact, he remembered a majority of those in ColouredClan despite not being there in ages. He remembered Lucy, too. So, she was leader now? Wait, Dirk was leader, too? Jake seemed happy for a moment and opened his mouth in order to at least get a "congratulations" out, but then he remembered the last part of what Dirk had said. Oh. Jake didn't say anything for a couple of moments, green eyes unfocused as he mentally tried to find the words he wanted to say. "I'm sorry," Jake began, voice a little too loud for comfort. He then continued, though he hesitated a lot between words, as if he wasn't sure of himself, "Impavid...is in a...better place. You're going to be...a good leader. Trust me." He then managed a small smile of encouragement despite the fact that he knew that it wasn't the best form of encouragement there was. He would have said more, but he still didn't trust his voice enough in order to say more, so he settled with that.

Jake wanted to say and do more, believe him.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px solid white; text-align: justify; width: 350px;] Dirk, however, didn't know that Jake had wanted to say more or whatever. He muttered out an apology at Jake's flinch, then listened to him speak slowly, cautiously. He sighed, looking down at the ground, then to the side, back to the ground. He probably should have just waited until they were due to meet up, yeah. He was probably an idiot for coming out here with no warning just to whine.

"I doubt it. I decided to join in the middle of a war, and now I'm co-leader, at least for a little while. But you know, I shouldn't whine. Hell, I'm pro'lly bein' a fool for comin' out here without any warning, an' all I do is whine about my problems." He quieted down after that, taking a deep breath then exhaling deeply. "Sorry."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=transparent; width: 425px;]★ ★ ★-- It seemed as if Dirk was in a tough situation, and Jake honestly had no idea what to do. How could he help? Jake had never been in such a situation and had never handled such problem either, so he was rather useless. Man, why couldn't he be more helpful? Oh, of course, it was because he was an idiot and got his hearing taken away from him, therefore leaving him more useless than before. What could he do, cheer Dirk on from the sidelines? Jake couldn't offer any advice because he had never led a clan, he couldn't lead with him because he was part of ScarClan, and he couldn't say as much as he wanted to because of what happened.

Jake instantly looked up at that, frustration flickering in his green eyes. "Don't say that!" He snapped, though he didn't sound angry, just merely frustrated. Jake felt as if he needed to get this out, and even if he didn't want to say it, the words were forcing themselves out of his mouth. "You're acting as if we can't...tell each other anything!" This time, the words were flowing out of his mouth quickly, which actually made them sound more coherent even though he still wasn't able to hear himself speak and therefore had no idea if what he was saying was right. He just felt as if they continued to apologize about speaking about their problems, then they would both continue having the notion that their problems should be internalized. He didn't want it to be like that. However, if that was what Dirk wanted, then maybe Jake would oblige. After all, this relationship was more important to Jake than anything.

Jake then let out a small sigh, taking in a deep breath right after. Dirk didn't deserve any of that, and Jake instantly began to feel guilty. He should apologize. "I'm sorry."
