Arin raised an eyebrow at him speaking, and he couldn't help but laugh at Alex. "Someone's overconfident over here," he teased and wiped his face with a napkin, finishing off his food. He leaned back into his chair a little, and glanced down at the ground as the other replied to him. Arin was a little disappointed at him being brushed off, as Alex would be working the rest of the day and then going to sleep. And it sounded like he was going to be going in his own room, and Arin would be left alone. Arin mentally scolded himself, he didn't need to rely on Alex so much, he was a grown man and could handle things.
And then the other man's words about obviously going with Arin tomorrow only confused Arin more. "I'm not helpless," he frowned, narrowing his eyes at Alex. "I don't need you to protect me, I can help myself. I just want to make sure you're going to be here the rest of this quest and the only way I can think of doing that is keeping you here," he explained himself, though in less words than he wanted to stay. "I need you more for that quest than I need you for this fae battle," he added, a bit more quietly. If Alex died too, before this whole thing was over, Arin wasn't so sure he'd want to continue. Alex had become a close friend, (that was the best work he could use to describe all this) and Arin was tired of losing people he cared for.
At the moment, things had quieted down, and he sighed. "You do whatever you want, I can't control you. But please, don't do anything reckless. That's my job," he said as he stood and took his plate, seeing that Alex was nearly done which would mean he would be getting back to work. "Don't burn yourself," he called on the way out as a goodbye.

Arin was angry and confused and he had a right to be but his whole life Alex had been looking out for everyone and letting himself get hurt because of it and for the first time he decided not to do it and he needed to stay strong. Or that's what he told himself. Arin was so angry at being treated like he was helpless he failed to see the reality of things. He wanted to heep Aleex safe for the quest but there'd be no quest without Arin. He was not helpless not, nor was he before, but if he pushed himself to far he would pass out and then he would be helpless. Alex may be distancing himself but he did still care about the other male. Alex wanted to punch something, he wanted to hit himself for being the way he was, he wanted to punch Arin for being such an idiot, he just wanted to punch something. Jaw clenched he stood up leaving the plates where they were, he would clean it later, and moved back to the Anvil to work more. At least he had his normal out of his ming, his agressions. He may not be able to fight someone but he can beat the sh*t out of somne metal all he wants.

Alex went to the fire grabbed some metal and worked himself back into the rhythm he had been in before. They were all basically the same so it was just a pattern he had to move into. The burning muscles washed away the feeling of his touch and the ringing of the anvil drowned out his voice. The glowing metal burned away the image of that pout but as soon as he was done working he knew it would all flood back and there was nothing to stop it. He would not let himself be a replacement, he would not let himself get hurt like any time before. He would kill the person who caused his fathers death and then go back to his life because by then Arin would realize he did not actually want Alex he just wanted someone to fill the space. Alex would not let himself be a filler no matter how many times it had happened before or how much he wanted to go running back to Arin. He would not let himself be weak and he would not let himself be hurt no matter how much he hated seeing Arin confused and hurting now.

Arin paused just before leaving, stealing a glance at the other man. Something wasn't right. This morning everything had been okay but something was off now. If only Alex would talk to him, but it didn't seem like he ever really wanted to talk about in depth emotional kind of things. Arin wondered if there was anything he could do or say to make the other man at ease. He seemed angry and distant all of a sudden. With a sigh, the sorcerer left the room and brought the plate he had back to the kitchens. And there, he stole some of the faerie wine for himself, and lugged it back to his room. However, Lorcan managed to find him. "Arin what are you doing with that..." the fae male sighed and took the bottle out of Arin's hands.
Arin glanced down at the floor with a shrug. "I figure it might make sleep easier," he admitted, frowning and looking sheepish. Lorcan shook his head. "You'll be sick in the morning, and if you're really going to help us like you said, you have to be in a healthy state of mind," the fae scolded. Arin just nodded, like a child getting chastized. "Alright, I'll go and rest as soon as I can. Is there anything you need me to do?" he asked, and Lorcan merely shrugged. "I'd ask Laia. She's still in the room from earlier. Maybe you can convince her to take a break, she won't listen to me at all and I'm worried she's over stressing herself over this," he frowned, and Arin put a hand on the other males shoulder. "I will make an attempt," he assured Lorcan, and then disappeared off. He managed to get Laia to finish off her plans and then ushered her to go to her room and rest with Lorcan. Then he returned to his own room and sighed, crawling into bed, leaving the candle beside his bed on, because remember he hated the dark.
He had to admit, he was a little scared for tomorrow. Of course he tried to be brave, appear strong. But if his illusions failed, if he couldn't hold it for long, he was putting both himself as well as Laia and her clan in danger. He didn't have to offer this much of his help, but Arin always wanted to help people in the best of his ability. Therefore he had to go big, or not do anything at all. Arin rolled over on the bed, staring over at the door, before he shook his head and bundled himself up in the blankets, trying to fall asleep without Alex.

Alex did not take long to finish the bucket. About an hour and he had the bucket full to the brim with arrowheads ready to be sharpened. He walked to the side of the room to where the stones were setting it beside an apprentice with no work and giving a little smile. He left the boy to do the work and grabbed his shirt pulling it on before exiting the cave. He had not been able to memorize all the twists and turns but he had based some off of his room there and so, though it took him longer then if Arin were there, he made his way off to his room. He paused outside the door beside his but in the end shook his head and moved along the couple steps more to his own. With a breath he pushed open the door almost hoping Arin had decided to go there instead but at the same time hoping he hadn't. He let out the breath he had not realized he was holding into the empty room in a mix of rejection and relief. He slipped out of his clothes and set them on the chair they had been in that morning neatly set away for the next day.

Alex turned and slipped under the blanket pulling it around him as the cloth slowly warmed up due to his body heat. He drew it tight around him and closed his eyes wishing for sleep to come, hoping to be released from this hell of loving and hating. Wanting to hold Arin close and knowing the closer he gets the easier it will be to push that knife into Alex's heart. Arin had a shard of glass wedged in his heart from Lucian and Alex did not want to be the painkiller. The thing he used to feel better until the shard fell out then left on a shelf to be covered in dust. Alex was hurting from all the times before he was set aside and never said anything and how everyone he loved had been stolen from him by the cold hands of death. It would not end well and he could see it but he wanted so badly to crawl back and feel the warmth of another body in the blankets and feel the rise and fall of his chest against his side. He wanted to go back to him and be happy for the short time it would last but he would not let it happen.

Arin rolled around a lot, trying to fall asleep. At one point he heard footsteps outside, stopping for a moment. The sorcerer glanced towards the door, watching to see if it was Alex and he was going to come inside. But he heard the door across the hall open and close, and Arin sighed in disappointment. He rolled back over again, trying to figure out what was going on. He couldn't think of anything that had gone wrong....but there wasn't anything he could come up with. Arin decided he wasn't going to care, if Alex was just playing with his emotions then he was done with this. Plus, it was better that way, they needed to focus on the quest, not each other.

Still, Arin couldn't exactly keep his emotions bottled up forever. With a huff, the male shut his eyes tightly and tried his best to fall asleep. He did, eventually sleep, but his dreams were filled with nightmares, of him losing his parents, Lucien, Laia...and the last person to be killed was Alex, by his uncle. This woke him up in the morning, along with a knock at his door. "Just a moment," he called, breathing heavily and trying to calm himself down, as he crawled out of bed and headed to the door. Lorcan was there, all armored up. "Come on, let's go get you armored, as well as your human friend," he motioned to the other door. Arin sighed; so they were heading out now. He had the option then, to not get Alex and leave, but he knew Alex would be furious with Arin if he was left behind. So Arin pounded on the blacksmiths door.

Sorry I do this thing where if I have low muse I just wait for a bit until I can pull out a good response. I'm so sorry.
Alex groaned at the pounding on his door but he knew if he was not quick to respond Arin would take that first chance to leave him behind. So he dragged his sore blacksmith body out of bed and into his clothes strapping the push blade to his wrist and the sword to his waist before pushing open the door and rubbing the last of the sleep from his eyes. "At least you know well enough to not leave me back no matter how much I know you want to." he muttered with a chuckle and giving the other male a little nudge, hopefully he would not still be mad over nothing. As they walked Alex stretched his arms up above his head as he had not stretched before and it did relieve some of the tension in his sore muscles, which in turn made them feel better. It was not pain per-say just a dull tired ache. And again he trailed along through the twisting labyrinth of tunnels and caves the Fae called home.

It did get on him a bit that they just referred to him as 'the human' as if that was all he was and all he was god for. As if because some humans got greedy he should be held to the same ideas. Sorcerers got greedy, as proven by Arins uncle, and there were probably Fae that got greedy. They did not hold Arin at the same level of respect as his uncle so why would they do it to Alex. But he did not comment, after today they would probably be back on the road so there was no point in causing undue conflict. That was a thing he usually avoided, conflict, and now he ha gotten himself right in the middle of the biggest conflict he had known and he had no idea how it happened but it was to late to turn back. That's not true, he could go home if needed but he had already committed mind and body to the quest so there really was no going back.

[It's OK we kinda hit a dead spot in the rp but I'm trying to have things happen to spice it up]

Arin waited patiently outside, hearing the other man getting up and wandering around the room. He went across the hall back to his room to grab his weapons, and then returned in the hall. He didn't give Alex any sort of smile, or even a frown, because he didn't want to let his emotions show. Alex liked to play with his emotions, and he was done being used for the other man's personal entertainment. At least thats what the young sorcerer was understanding from this situation. And Arin had said he hated being used. "I thought about not waking you up," he admitted with a shrug, and then at the shove from Alex, the sorcerer shocked him, maybe a little harder than he should have but it wouldn't be enough to harm him. And then he walked a little bit ahead of Alex, speaking to Loran quietly.

There was a reason the fae didn't like humans; many fae had been enslaved by humans for a while, Laia and Lorcan both, as well as a large group of the clan they were staying with at the moment. Laia and Arin had ended up freeing a bunch of enslaved fae, with the help of Lucien too. So the fae weren't being too kind to Alex because they just didn't trust humans, maybe even feared them.
The group eventually came to a room, and Arin was given some armor to wear, to protect himself in case of an attack. They even offered some to Alex as well. "Where are the other fae?" Arin asked.
"We have been sending squadrons out in groups to hide around the camp. We will be the last group to go," Lorcan informed. "Laia is there already," he added, just in case that was the next question. Arin slung his quiver over his armor and added his hidden blades and daggers and such to the armor in places where they went. "I was a bit distracted the last time we had to fight, and I don't recall seeing your skills. Can you even fight?" he asked Alex, curiously. He remembered asking if he could fight before they went on the quest, but he'd never actually seen Alex wield a weapon.

Alex was down about the fact Arin had reverted to shocking him on contact, more than he should be, but he could see where the male was coming from. The sudden, and less than subtle, change in treatment probably looked to the other like he was playing with his emotions. It was for the best he had gone back, if got rid of the temptation to go crawling back into the sorcerers arms. So he followed along doing his best not to look like a rejected puppy while Arin ignored him completely. His behavior was probably not putting him in a good place under the already disdain for humans the sorcerer seemed to have. Alex did not want to hurt him but he probably would not be believed if he said that. Alex pulled himself out of thought trying not to push himself further down by dwelling on it. He just needed to realize it was what had to happen to protect himself and continue on, though he had to be more careful not to hurt the male.

Alex let his gaze sweep over the room they stopped in accepting the armor he was given putting it on fairly quick before Arin's voice sounded. "Hmm? I'm best with close combat, pushblade's my favorite" he said pulling the blade from the sheath on his wrist it fit between his fingers, the shape like an exaggerated arrowhead, about an inch long. He could obviously remove it much faster when needed but for not he just placed it back. He also had the iron sword on his side, he was not the quickest swordsman but all you needed was to outsmart the opponent. He offered a small smile to the group, the way Arin had phrased that question was less than ideal, made him seem useless, but he shook it off fairly quick. The other male was mad, and rightly so, so he could not be expected to be nice.

Arin knew he was probably being unreasonable and reacting rather childishly in this situation, but he had a right to be offended, no? It didn't matter anyways, everyone Arin cared for died. Laia was alive, but he rarely saw her. And Alex...if Arin added to the list, he could be harmed too, it was only a matter of time before he lost everyone. Perhaps he was cursed, or something. Arin scoffed and shook his head at his morbid thoughts, and tried his best to focus on what was happening in that moment. He adjusted his armor slightly, and then glanced over at Alex. The man actually looked pretty darn good too, it only made Arin frown. If only his attraction to the blacksmith would go away, it would only make things easier.
He shrugged as Alex answered his question. "One of these days I'd like to fight you, just to see how you are," he said. "Of course, practice fight I mean," and he was serious "hopefully you won't actually be in combat today anyways. You're going to be with me, away from the battle," he informed Alex. No way he was going to be anywhere else other than at Arin's side where they could keep an eye on each other. The last thing the sorcerer wanted was his companion in the fight for with the fae, getting injured, or even worse; dying. Plus, this wasn't Alex's fight. He didn't have to help the fae, he was there to help Arin. "Alright I think we're ready," he informed Lorcan, and the fae nodded, motioning for them to follow out of the cave.
They were lead up and out of the ground, and began moving swiftly through the trees and the flora and fawna of the forest. It took a few minutes until Lorcan slowed down and crouched, walking as he crouched. He approached a large rock, which was on the edge of a hill, and Lorcan peered over. He motioned for Arin to come forwards, and then the sorcerer peeked down the hill. At the bottom, there was a large camp of tents, fire pits, and trolls sitting around everywhere, waking up from the night before. There were no female or children trolls, just soldiers. Trolls were little small creatures, with deformed, ugly faces and large, sharp teeth. Most didn't speak the fae or human language, and made grunting noises in their own. Arin watched as they moved around camp, doing their daily things. Lorcan gave the sorcerer a nod to move, and then signaled to the other fae which then went to signal to the other groups of fae all around, hiding around the camp; they were in bushes, up in trees, literally everywhere ready to attack once Arin's illusion faded. Arin began the illusion; only he and the trolls below could see it, since he was only messing with their minds. They began attacking something that wasn't there, swinging their weapons around, yelling and grunting as the whole camp was alerted to an "attack." It lasted for a while, until Arin couldn't do it anymore. He began shaking, sweating even, before his shoulders slumped and he leaned back up against the rock, panting. It was as if he had just been running for miles. His head pounded and all he wanted to do was sleep. Lorcan sounded a horn and the fae began firing arrows into the camp, and other fae snuck in to take out the trolls swiftly. Arin shakily got to his feet and went to throw up in a bush nearby.

Alex watched as the trolls fought against nothing his attention drawing to Arin the moment they stopped and he let out a growl seeing the state the other male was in. Crouching low he stayed with Arin while the fae started to attack about to place a hand on the males back as he was doubled over the bush but drew back. God forbid Arin was actually mad enough to waste more energy to shock him for touching his back. Alex had to continue to tell himself it was for the best and that is was what he had to do, he had to keep from distracting Arin and hurting himself. He just let out another growl at the state the other male was in and spoke lowly, both in volume and tone, "No more." he stayed by his side watching for anyone, or thing, that tried to come up and harm them. Alex had half a mind to just toss him over his shoulder and take him back to the caves but he knew Arin would have a fit if he did that.

With no other option in sight and a determination not to leave Arins side he stayed low his hand ready on the pushblade but seeing as it was early battle most of the fighting was still contained within the bounds of the Troll came, none of them had enough time yet to try and escape their frenzied fighting. The trolls seemed to have no exact plan apart from bask whatever was in front of you and take joy in it, a clearly barbaric line of thinking. As far as he could tell and guess the fae fought to win not to kill but with the trolls they seemed to have no choice, those gruesome creatures would not stop until they died. Alex had his attention flickering between the male, who was not in good shape, and their surroundings. The idea to just take him back no matter what he did was getting more and more attractive as the anxious mind generated all the different ways everything could go wrong.

Arin practically emptied all of his stomach contents into the bush, and he coughed for a long while. He heard and sensed Alex's presence near him, so the male kept his face away, which was red and his eyes were watery. From both throwing up as well as from him remembering why he hated his magic. It occasionally caused him pain like this. If he could get rid of his magic, he would do it. But it wasn't something you could take away so easily. He was shaking a little at the moment, coughing a few times before taking deep breaths. Alex growled something to him, saying " no more" and he assumed no more using his magic. "I know," he said weakly before slumping down to the ground for a moment.

He closed his eyes, his head pounding in pain, and he let out a small groan, reaching up to rub his temples. "I overestimated how much I could withstand," he murmured, wanting to curl up on the ground and sleep. The sounds of the fight below grew a bit louder as the fae and trolls battled. This never would have happened if the trolls didnt get greedy with land; they broke their truce with the fae, and now they had to pay for it. Arin blinked his eyes back open, looking over at Alex, glad he was there watching his back at the moment. "We're okay over here, Alex, they won't get to us," he assured, seeing as the male kept glancing around. And just after Arin said that, a fleeing, injured troll came huffing up the hill, and when it saw the two of them it roared , running at Alex, weapon raised. Arin, even though his body ached, and he was tired - he didn't even think twice, he moved forwards, grabbed the sword from Alex's waist, and plunged it through the trolls chest. It went limp and Arin pulled the blade out, dropping it on the ground. He felt a little dizzy, but he was just glad Alex was unharmed. Arin was about to make some sly comment , before he heard a familiar yell below. Laia. Arin pushed through the exhaustion and saw that Lorcan was being overwhelmed by trolls, and Laia was busy with her own so that she couldn't get to him. The sorcerer grabbed arrows from his quiver and used his bow, firing off shots all around to the trolls near Lorcan and Laia until his vision was too blurry and he slunk down against the rock, grumbling to himself.

Alex grabbed his sword and then Arin carrying him far enough away for him to be safe while he was gone. "No more anything, don't you dare move or I swear I will carry you all the way back no matter how much you fight" he growled, it sounded harsh but he needed to make sure his words got through the sorcerers thick skull. He did not have the time to make sure the message actually broke through the layers upon layers of idiotic determination so unsure if Arin would stay safe he was back around and slinking through the veil of forest back the way he came. He did not pause at the edge but with an immediate scan of who had more to deal with ran out towards Lorcan. Full swing he cut down two trolls with another he ensured they were dead throwing himself into the fray and taunting them off the male he barely knew so he could handle what he was left with. He was backing away slowly point held out body held like it was a dance he was doing his movements smooth and fluid. One charged him and with a smooth swing he cut it down and turned to the Troll who tried to fill the gap.

This was the good thing about trolls, their skulls were so thick there was barely room for a brain and the way Alex knew it fighting was a game of the wits. Considering he was larger then the others and had less to deal with he had managed to get through it with minimal cuts, there was a close call in there where two charged on opposite sides but he had managed to handle it in a not so savory manner. Spear one and swing it to club the other giving him enough time to dislodge his sword and actually get the other as it recovered. Lorcan seemed to be doing fine now so Alex turned to Laia going for the same tactic, taunt some away. From her he came off with three trolls who turned their attention to him, he was a little worn out but it did not exactly slow him down. He came off of the first fight, where he had about five, with scratched up armor a cut and large forming bruise on his left arm and a mild gash on his right thigh. The gash was not deep enough to need attention immediately, or long enough to be pouring blood but it was a good hit and it did slow him down.

His attention was full on the ugly beasts snarling and advancing with a swipe he got one in the side but not enough to stop it just slow it. his eyes flickered between the three trying to figure which would charge him first. It turned out to be the middle one and it was already to close for effective sword use so in a moment he transferred his sword and pulled out the small blade leaving a nice deep gash along the stomach as he pulled out of the immediate path but earned himself a shallow cut on his arms. One down two to go. He replaced the blade quick as he got it and went for the weakened one falling out of the pattern he had layed into and charging first, the sudden offensive action did catch it off guard and he got in a good slice but he turned to see the other charging giving him almost no time to react. He managed to cut it down but it got in a nice gash on his side, non fatal if he could get help soon enough not to bleed out. With that he placed one hand to his side to try and stop the bleeding somewhat and slunk back to where he came from.

En Alex picked him up, Arin immediately protested, squirming and trying to get out of the other man's grip. "I just need a moment! I have to help them!" he protested. At Alex's threat that he'd be brought back and away from the fight if he did anything, Arin scowled. But then he realized the blacksmith was heading back out there to fight, and Arin's eyes widened. "Alex no!" he yelled after him and tried to get up but it was too hard, he was too weak. The man let out a yell of frustration and he stared after Alex in anger. Arin couldn't keep an eye out for Alex, he couldn't help him if something happened to him out there! He couldn't lose his new friend.
The sorceress sat and closed his eyes, taking deep breaths. He could do this, he was strong. Arin never gave up so easily and he wasn't going to let this stop him from trying to help his friends. So, using a tree next to him, Arin pulled himself to his feet and then began trekking back to the top of the hill, leaning against the boulder so he could watch below and fire his arrows when needed. Alex couldn't take him back now when he was down there fighting ! And Arin was actually extremely surprised at what he saw. Alex was fighting brilliantly, cutting the trolls down as if it was second nature. Arin felt proud, but at the same time so, so worried every time he got cut by a troll. But Alex pushed through, ignoring his injuries and helping out Lorcan and eventually Laia. Lorcan of course was surprised as well at the fact Alex was helping and he merely nodded to the other man before helping him and Laia out with the trolls. By now most of the creatures were either dead, or had run off back home, or they were still fighting the fae. One of the fae brought an injured troll to Laia, and she started speaking in the trolls language, before she sent it off running back home - she was having it deliver a message.
Arin was still focused on Alex though despite his vision being so blurry. He had an arrow knocked on his bow and he had tried to get an aim on those Alex had been fighting but he was afraid he could hit the other man, so he never fired. Seeing Alex hold a hand to his wound, where the sorcerer could see lots of blood coming from, worried Arin beyond anything. There were other wounds too but that seemed to be the worst. Alex was coming back this way and Arin met him halfway and didn't even let Alex protest or anything before he touched the man's side, giving enough magic to just make the wound close up and stop the bleeding. He then gripped Alex's shoulders to keep himself upright and on his feet, "I don't care what you threaten," he mumbled, "I will do whatever it takes to protect my friends. Don't take me away from a fight ever again," he said roughly to Alex, and then let out a wheeze before glancing over Arin'a shoulder. The fight was basically over by now, Laia was rounding the troups and gathering her injured, and even dead soldiers...

Alex tried to shove Arin away but he was too late leaving him glaring at the other male, the only thing keeping him from actually shoving the other male is if he batted the arm away or pushed the other male he would not be strong enough to stand on his own. "Idiot, you can barely stand how did you get it into that thick skull of yours that coming here, fighting would ever have been a good idea. I've said it before I can defend myself you on the other hand..." he trailed off shaking his head, very obviously fuming and in no state to even look at the other male "The only reason I did not take you back was because I needed to go help. The only reason I did not tie you to a damned tree is because there was no time. I do not care how many times you tell me not to take you away of how you say it you're so damned stubborn to do what you think is right you don't take the time to think how any of us would feel if you got yourself killed." he growled lowly moving so he could transfer Arin to Lorcan and move away fining some torn cloth on the ground to wipe his blade off with then tore off the leg knee down off one of his pant legs, it was half shredded anyways, and used it to tie tight around the gash on his thigh to slow the bleeding. He had gotten good enough at dealing with wounds and the adrenaline pumping through his veins kept the pain at bay. The anger forcing it the rest of the way off but he knew enough to see it would hurt like hell in a couple of hours.

Alex was seething, still grumbling to himself as he sat off to the side in the dirt fixing himself best he could. He was not near critical so he could deal with it on his own though most of the front of his pants leg was soaked with the crimson color by now. He was caught up in the anger, the fact Arin would have been killed if the battle went on any longer to care if his harsh words had hurt the smaller male. Maybe that would be the only way to get the message to stop in his mind instead of going in one ear and out the other. It was true, he could have said it nicer but it was true. Arin was so caught up in thinking about the only person he loved he failed to notice that there were still people who cared about him, failed to consider them when he made a decision. He ran into everything blindly and did not give a second thought to if anyone would get hurt from his blind decisions. With the wound on his leg tightly wrapped the next place he tore from was his sleeve using the long strip to tie up his arm.

Arin expected Alex to be mad, but this? Alex was being worse than Arin had thought. He stared at the other man in shock as he yelled at him, basically calling him reckless and foolish for what he'd done. "It's not like I went out there planning to die!" he argued, "I was just trying to have my friends backs," he would defend himself completely, Alex did not have a right to yell at him for wanting to do something to make sure his friends were okay. And if he happened to die? Then he died for a good cause, doing the right thing. It wasn't selfish at all. Alex was right about one of the things hed said though, that he didn't really think about people's reactions to his deaths. His only focus was helping others. "This is me and how I do things, Alex. If you don't like it, then go home," he called after the man, frowning and hurt that Alex had to be so harsh and angry about all of this.

Lorcan had to hang onto Arin now. But once Laia was done rounding up her soldiers and having them gather the bodies of the lost to have a proper burial, she hurried over to Lorcan and Arin. First thing she did was check her mate for any serious injuries, but she found nothing, and sighed in relief. And then she turned to Arin, taking in his state. "I never should have let you do this," she frowned and gave Lorcan a nod to let him know she could hang onto him. "You have your own mission and I let you help us with ours," she frowned. "As soon as you and Alex are all fixed uo, Lorcan and I will escort you through the forest," she promised, and Arin just nodded and closed his eyes, murmuring a thanks.
In the meantime Lorcan had gone over to Alex who was tying cloth around his wounds to help stop the bleeding. "We're going to be heading back now," he said and then held his hand out to offer the man to his feet. "Thank you for helping us today, Laia or myself might have been seriously injured or dead if you didn't step in," he gave small nod. "We owe you," the fae added, and then glanced back at Laia and Arin just as his mate was struggling with keeping Arin on his feet. Lorcan headed over to help get him up, and then they headed back to the caves. Some fae stayed behind to make sure the trolls didn't counter, but the rest headed back.

Alex took the hand and used it to help lift himself up shaking his head. "You owe nothing, I decided to come to the battle it was only the right thing to do to fight. Had roles been reversed I hope you would have done the same" he said shaking his head once more at the end of his sentiments. They might not have had much respect for him seeing as he was human but no matter the undue hostility shown he was not going to leave them to die. Arin liked to place himself in the middle of danger to keep everyone else safe but what good was Alex's safety if Arin died and he had to go back to the town full of reminders that everything he had was destroyed. There was no life to go back to if Arin died like the idiot male seemed to believe. there was a reason he had left so easily, and he had even said the night before when they had somehow ended in he same bed. "I hope we can stay one more night, I fear Arin will try to go on but he is in no state right now to do much of anything save piss me off" he said lowly so the sorcerer would not hear. A light chuckle showed that the last part was only half true half joke.

He succeeded in one thing with this, his harsh words would push Arin a good distance away at least for a while and so far he did not regret any of the words. He was going along behind them his progress in walking back slowed a bit by the gash on his thigh. As the adrenaline was filtered from his system the pain of the various cuts, gashes, and bruises was taking hold of most his body. He spoke lowly to Arin not caring Laia and Lorcan could probably hear him, "What good is my life over yours. I would have to hobble my way back to the little village where there is no life for me and be surrounded by the constant reminders that I've lost everything I ever cared about. It is not a 'good cause' to die saving me because there is no life here to save" he hissed falling back right after denying Arin the chance to respond. He did not need to deal with the words, he did not want to know if they would be angry or hurt or blank. He wanted to go home but his home had been taken from him by the person he was now on his way to usurp.

His leg was still bleeding, he had not remained still long enough to let it close up and the moving was preventing it from doing that now. Red slowly starting to show through the cloth wrapped tight. He could keep his arm still enough so while it was bleeding it was not as much as the other. He had lost a good amount of blood before Arin decided to strain himself more and heal it so he was a little faint. Paler then usual. But he could keep himself up until they got back, at least he hoped. Arin was the one who needed the attention now just as when they first arrived and Alex refused to draw undue attention to himself. The one on his leg was probably an inch deep and three long, the worst now that his side was shut. Looking around he was relieved to see they were near the caves, the wrapping on his leg slowly soaking through with the bright color of his blood. And the darker it got the more faint he got but he trudged on holding himself upright like he normally did.

"One day you might need some help," Lorcan shrugged, "And a fae's word is for life," he said as he pat the man's shoulder. "So don't pass it up," he added as he wandered back towards the others. At Arin's comment, he just smiled awkwardly and gave the man a nod. "You two obviously have a lot to talk about. But, you're both welcome to stay until you're ready to continue your journey," he replied and when he got to Laia and Arin, and Arin was chuckling in apology that he couldn't keep himself upright. Laia only smiled awkwardly, though she was worried about his condition. Lorcan did his best to keep the sorcerer on his feet and walking back to the caves.

Things were quiet for a while, Arin especially quiet, trying not to think about the pain, as well as pushing Alex's words out of his head. Though they wouldn't go away; Arin just didn't want to accept that Alex was right; stubborn Arin. He turned his head in the direction of Alex as he began talking to him, and the sorcerers golden eyes widened at the depressing way he was talking. "Alex you can't think like that," he whispered back quietly. "You could always start over somewhere else. Sure, you've lost a lot, I have too, but it doesn't mean the rest of your life has to be...meaningless," he gave Alex a bit of a sad glance. "But besides that, look Alex. Im alive. I might be willing to risk myself for others, but that wasn't my plan today. I need to finish what I've started," there was a determined spark in his eyes and he eventually moved his gaze away from the other man, before he shifted himself to lessen the amount of weight he was leaning on Lorcan.

"I promise you won't be going back to your old life all alone. You've got me. I don't want to die yet," Arin said, glancing back at Alex again, and this time he noticed the pale hue to his skin, and the blacksmiths pant leg red with blood. "Laia," he mumbled, a worried tone in his voice and she glanced over at Arin before following his gaze. Laia wasn't super injured herself; she had a cut on her forehead, and one on her arm. Of course a few more bruises here and there but her armor really saved her. So, Laia was completely capable of going over and helping Alex stay upright. "I know you probably think you're okay enough to walk, but I just want to keep the least amount of blood possible from coming out of those wounds, okay?" Laia gave him a look that said he couldn't argue with her.

They made it back to the caves now, and a lot happened all at the same time. The most injured went right to the fae healers. Alex was taken there to get patched up. Since Arin didn't have any injuries, and just needed rest, he was forced to stay in his room and sleep, after drinking a nasty green liquid; medicine. Arin did fall asleep soon after, very easily, and he was passed out the entire rest of the day. He didn't wake up until very late at night, somewhere in the early AMs. Arin had a pounding headache, and he groaned, sitting up slowly to rub his temples. Someone left water beside the table and he drank nearly all of it. Now, he just needed to find Alex and see how he was. They either kept him in the infirmary, or brought him to his room. But Arin needed to make sure he was okay.

When Laia came to his side he knew there was no point in moving away from the help, he would not push her the way he did Arin mainly because he had been trying to keep the sorcerer from making a stupid decision. He had failed at that. He knew he did not need the help, they were near and he did not want to burden any of them but the look she gave him said even if he pushed her away she would be replaced by someone else. "I don't need the help, really." he said giving a halfhearted attempt at protesting though he knew it would not work anyways. He still kept walking same as before keeping all his weight to himself save the weight of his arm she had put over her shoulder. The more time passed the more he felt the various cuts and bruises, nothing more then the gashes. His side had an odd sort of pain reminiscent of what should be there had Arin not wasted energy on him considering the amount of energy he had left in him now it probably was not fully healed just mostly. Arin had nice words about him not being alone, they would not be true if he continued to throw himself in headfirst but there was nothing Alex could do about except hold him back long enough to get him to think about what he was doing.

It was not long before they reached the cave Arin carted off to his room Alex pulled to the infirmary. They had to pull the bloody cloth from his wounds the half clotted blood did not make that a pleasant experience for any party involved. They bound the main wounds tight to force the sides together and prevent, or minimize at least, the blood flowing out. When they removed his shirt his suspicions were confirmed, the gash on his side had been mostly sealed but he was still left with a long thin cut that still went as deep. They applied some sort of salve to the minor cuts and made him drink that same clear liquid he had refused when they arrived just the day before. That seemed so long ago. Next was a different vile he had to drink containing something to dim the pain, it worked better then expected getting rid of it entirely. He could still see the fae looking with distaste at the human within their ranks so on request he was carted off to his room to be away from all the looks and muttering.

He knew Arin was just across the wall but he did not dare bother the other male, he was still mad about the actions the other male had made. while he may not be as harsh with the scolding now as before he did not regret what he said of how he said it. He believed it therefor refused to regret it. He made his way slowly to the bed, the bandages making it hard to walk, and eased himself down with a small groan. That painkiller was not in full effect so staying still did not hurt but it could not be avoided the pain of movement. He was fairly well bruised up, if the trolls could not get in a cut the still went for a hit so each of their missed slashes resulted in a new patch of black and blue. In the absence of adrenaline and pain exhaustion was next on the list to take over and that's exactly what it did. He easily slipped into darkness a dreamless sleep most likely caused by the two different liquids they had him drink.

He woke later and it was not pleasant. It was some time early morning or late night, he was not sure which. All he knew is it was dark and silent. He woke because the medicine wore off, before he still had something in his system to dull the pain then the medicine now he was feeling the full force. It was not as bad as branding himself with a horseshoe, nothing would be that bad of a pain, but this was spread over a wider area, almost his whole body. There was focus points where it was worse, mainly the scratches and cuts, then there was the places where it pulsed between ache and burning pain. The gashes. Despite the pain he knew better then to move so he was left laying in the bed staring at the stone ceiling. Eventually his eyes would distort the little dips and shadows into swirling images but that was simply staring for to long.

[When you write up a whole post and then the website shuts down and you lose it all ...]

It was very very quiet in the cave system, Arin noticed as he moved his feet over the side of the bed. And it was dark. The fae were most likely asleep, or having vigil for the fae that died in the attack. As he stood, his head pounded, so it appeared his headache was worse than he thought. His whole body was extremely sore, as if he'd been thrown into a wall multiple times. The sorcerer definitely overused his magic, more than usual. Arin wasn't sure he'd ever felt this awful before, and he knew it was going to take his body a little longer to be able to withstand great amounts of magic. That was the thing about magic, you used your energy to create it, it came from within you. So, the more you used the more tired you got. Anyways, Arin felt around for a lantern, and used a tiny tiny bit of magic to light it, so that he could see around the room. The man let out a sigh of relief as the darkness of the room was lit up.

Then he shuffled towards the door, slowly, and he opened up the door. Arin glanced across the hall at Alex's door. His stomach flopped, and he grew nervous as well as worried to go and see how he was. Arin slightly hoped the other man was asleep, so he could avoid this confrontation, have it happen tomorrow morning. But, Arin didn't want to be a coward. He sighed and moved across the hall, not bothering knocking as he opened up the door and slipped inside. Alex was awake, staring at the ceiling, and Arin'a nerves only grew.

He was just worried because he honestly didn't want to fight with Alex, he didn't want him upset with him for being reckless. Arin just wanted things to be normal between them - whatever that normal even was. Arin liked having Alex around, and he wasn't going to have the rest of their trip be full of anger. Arin approached the bed slowly and put the lantern down on the table there. Arin's golden eyes trailed over the other male and the state he was in, which wasn't too good. He'd heal Alex, but Alex would only get mad at him, and Arin most likely would pass out right there if he tried, since he was still week. "How are you feeling?" he asked, and sat on the edge of the bed, careful not to sit on any of his limbs. Arin was sure he himself looked awful; pale, bags under his eyes, overall just an exhausted look.

Even the shift of the mattress seemed to drag at the sore muscles, he had known who it would be the moment the room filled with the dim light He was not sure if he wanted Arin there, he might not be able to push him in time if he decided to try again and heal him. He did not bother turning his head, did not bother moving at all really. He could feel the muscles tight under his skin and knew it would pull at them to shift, while that would not be pleasant it would not really hurt either. He was wary of the male sitting close to him, he wanted to be out of arms reach. As far as he gathered Arin had to be touching the wound to heal it. He was laying on his back set up almost like a man in a coffin, everything in line arms at his side to the elbow where they then bent up so his hands could rest one over the other on his chest. He was taking shallow breaths to avoid the pain of expanding his chest out all the way and tugging at the various small cuts. Over everything his only thought was keep Arin out of reach, keep him from hurting himself more.

Alex chuckled at the light question asked, he could hear the cute worry in his voice and he went with a answer truthful then joking. "Well it ain't as bad as accidentally branding yourself on a white hot horseshoe but it does cover more space" he was obviously referring to the unlucky horseshoe scar on his side, the worst he has. Probably still will be as the scar tissue is raised up and not smooth as normal skin should be, these gashes would heal to tan lines then fade to nothing. That was the truth bit. "If you don't mind I'll be opting out of cuddling tonight, really most forms of touching. In fact if you could just stay out of range for that healing magic of yours that'd be great" There was an essence of truth there, the fact he did not want to be healed. His tone was light and joking but he knew there was a chance Arin would take offense but Alex would be largely unaffected by that unless he decided to get the anger out by punching him or something long those lines.

He refused to apologize for his words before He was scared to look over to the state Arin was in as well. It would probably just make him mad about the wasted energy and also make him want to hold the smaller male which would not be a good idea for multiple reasons. so he kept his gaze directed up at the ceiling thinking a moment more before speaking. He had no shirt on as they had to remove it to treat his wounds and he was not in shape to put one on, the act of lifting his arms probably would have pulled one or two small cuts back open. "Actually if you could pull that blanket up to my hands that would be delightful." he said actually turning his head to offer a smile. He saw the state the other was in and let out a little huff, even if it hurt him more he would keep that little idiot from trying again to heal him but it seemed he had gotten the message as he had not made a move to do anything yet.
