    Princess Luna was never imprisoned.


    She has reigned alongside Celestia for thousands of years, keeping her jealousy internalized for the sake of Equestria. As Princess of the Night, she believes envy is beneath her. For centuries, she has battled the nightmares of sleeping ponies, using fear tactics to keep the darkness out. It is her duty to protect them and she is very successful; The ponies who are scared of her are merely a side-effect. Something to be expected in her line of work.


    Besides, she has done so much for them. Alongside her sister, Luna has countered Chaos, Oppression, Deceit in the forms of Discord, Sombra and the Changeling Queens. Surely her importance cannot be ignored with those victories by her side.


    So, why the student?


    It was very sudden, too sudden. Celestia announced she would take in a young filly she had discovered auditioning at the Royal Academy. She believed that there was so much potential in the foal, enough that she declared that filly to be trained within their kingdom, to learn magic under their wings. Luna at first declined, incensed by the thought of being overshadowed by yet another pony. And yet, Celestia decided if she resisted, then she would teach the foal herself. Begrudgingly, Luna decided to share, as - she would remind herself - the dual sisters were expected co-rule each and all things.


    And so, eventually, Princess Luna would meet their new prodigy;


    Twilight Sparkle.

    So, like stated above, this is an Alternate-Universe role-play. Basically everything is normal except for one detail: Nightmare Moon does not exist. At least not yet (it's up to events in the rp whether or not she actually happens). This means characters will be very altered. They will act more like they did in the past than in the current events of the show. And instead of being taught by just one princess, Twilight Sparkle will have known Luna from the start. From there, we just sorta see what happens.


    The role-play will be divided into 3-4 sections, with time skips in-between, and each section will have a different Story Arc. Think of it as like watching the seasons of a tv show, with each season starting a year or so into the future. There's a defined goal in each section, but what happens in each one and their consequences will change through how these three characters interact. Each goal is derived from the show, but made different by the AU.


    We'll need three players, including me. Each one will pick their "mane" canon and then can filter in additional minor characters (guards, twilight's friends in canterlot, villain mooks etc). I'm keeping it down to us three because this is the first time I'm hosting an rp topic, and I'm nervous handling a larger group. Rules and available openings are below. :)


    Rules
    1. All Feralfront Rules apply. No god-moding, meta-gaming, auto-hitting etc.
    2. Please respect the alternate universe's story is different from the main show's. Events in the show have not necessarily occurred in this universe. Need help with the AU? Simply ask me via PM and I can let you know.
    3. No fancy-posts, please. I don't mind justifying your font, adding an image at the top of the post, writing in a different font, or using colors for your character's speech. But some templates I find extremely difficult to read through, so minimal coding is preferred.
    4. This is a semi-advanced to advanced rp, but I prefer quality over quantity. However, each post must contain at least 5 sentences.
    5. This is a G rating rp. No swearing, extreme gore, or anything inappropriate.
    6. Respect posting order (this is to avoid losing track of replies in the rp)
    7. Finally, just have fun. Let's have a dynamic, interesting rp we can all enjoy. ^^

    Build: Shorter than her sister, but still towers over most ponies. Athletic, with a strong, angular muzzle and large almond-shaped eyes.
    Other: Often wears a black tiara, necklace and horseshoes. Has an odd patch of darker fur along her flank, where her cutie mark stands out.


    Personality: Throughout the eons, Luna has devolved from her chipper happy childhood. Her solemn expression and frequent snarking is of indication that negativity is brewing just beneath the cold outer shell. This Princess of the Night has a chip on her shoulder. She tends to be quiet and polite, but keeps her distance away from others, even her own sister. Her personal space is something she cherishes, and she is hardly ever seen during daylight hours. It is in her mind and heart that her duties are of the night, and the night only. It is only then, when setting down the sun, that she appears truly at ease.


    While cold and uncomfortably blunt around others, Luna does still hold love for her elder sister, despite resenting being in her shadow. She is simply conflicted over her jealousy and her subjects. The nightmares she faces seem to be putting stress on her as well, and from this her subjects cower before her instead of bowing respectfully. With this iron hoofed attitude and difficulty with charming her subjects, Luna is trying desperately to become as beloved as her co-ruling sister.


    She enjoys flying, reading, and astronomy. Her sense of humor is dry and sarcastic.


    Brief History: The younger daughter of the royal twins, Luna was created to reign over the night sky. From day one all she knew was her sister, Celestia, and the two formed an inseperable bond. They were hailed as miracles in their early years; Being the first known ponies to possess horns and wings, their magical prowess and ability to set both the sun and moon quickly rose them to a God-like status. Indeed, even other alicorns later on seemed not to share their power, nor their longevity. And so, despite being so powerful, the two felt alone, and only grew close to each other.


    Over the years, they dealt with enemies that challenged their reign. Changeling Queens threatening to take their place, Discord, Tirek... They used their most peaceful methods and when that failed, assaulted their foes with their magic. And their subjects praised them. Unfortunately, Luna soon realized that during the day, the ponies would play and come outside. During the night, they only cowered and slept. Luna invented dreamwalking as a means to protect them from the nightmares of sleep, but even that didn't get their approval. When it all came down to it, Luna's night was insignificant in their eyes; Simply thought of as a time of rest.


    And she hated that.


    But Luna did not give in. She began to focus on her missions more and more, seeing each accomplishment as a way to distract her from the growing truth. Her personality changed, becoming cynical towards her sister's popularity. Sometimes it was so bad she didn't want to look at Celestia for another second. Celestia most likely could tell something was wrong, but her own duties kept her distracted. However, Luna has remained calm for now. It is unknown whether or not she will make the same choice as her main-universe counterpart.

    Yes, Twilight's spot is still open. Anyone can apply for her until I have accepted who's app I feel is finished/I find works best for the thread. Once I approve of an app for the character, I'll edit the first post to show whether or not the spot's taken. I never accepted Stormfury since they never finished their application, which is why it appears conflicting. So Twilight is still free to apply for. Sorry for the confusion.

    Personality: Twilight is a studious young filly, more inclined to sit and read than romp around with most of the others her age. However, she is indeed curious, and where research fails, she turns to rigorous exploration to gather first-hand experience. A quiet presence, it's easy to overlook Twilight, or ignore her for her somewhat timid demeanor. She tries to stay proper and polite, but may put too much weight on perfection and precision, frightened and confused when things don't go her way- or the way the most supported and provable logic decrees that they should go. Because of this, her attention to detail and the "small picture" is astounding, and picking out flaws and discrepancies comes easily to her, but her awareness of the bigger picture is lacking.
    As for interpersonal relationships, Twilight could be considered far behind. Beyond her own family and the two Sisters, there is no pony she feels she can truly trust, because her books are enough for her; "it's all there in the manual." She, in short, has no friends, and outside of experimentation she has never thought to make any. An asocial pony, Twilight can actually barely comprehend the "point" of small talk, so she may answer such "pointless questions" with further inquiries, prying into the reasoning behind them time and time again.

    Brief History: Twilight was raised by both of her parents, but in part nurtured and educated by her older brother as well. They encouraged her passion for magic, preparing her with all the tools to meet the filly's first life goal: Being accepted into a prestigious magic school, specifically that run by Princess Celestia.
    Unlike in the original timeline, no sonic rainboom inspired her to pass the entrance exam(?), and instead of hatching the dragon egg given to her, she caused it to burst into flames, burning away to ashes. She would almost certainly have failed, but Celestia herself intervened, seeing the raw power in Twilight's destructive spell and agreeing to make an exception to the typical procedure for her. Not only that, but Celestia took her under her wing, as it were, to be the personal student of the royal sisters and learn to control her magic.

    Your personality for Twilight is really fitting for this AU. I'm glad she isn't totally canon; It makes a lot of sense with the different setting. Poor Spike though.


    I honestly think this Twilight would be a lot of fun interacting with. She feels very much like a pre-friendship Twi, and I'm glad you gave her both strengths and weaknesses in her personality. I'm looking forward to seeing how her character develops over the course of the rp. Accepted~

    Build: Celestia is an extremely tall alicorn, with a rather slender build, a long, elegant horn, and large wings.
    Other: Celestia wears a golden crown with a purple gem in the middle, and a matching necklace. Her necklace and crown both have a swirled design on them, and her horseshoes are a pale pinkish-golden color. Celestia's mane grows slightly lighter towards the tips.
    Personality: Princess Celestia is a calm and reasonable mare, who truly cares for her subjects, and will do her best to protect them. She is kind, forgiving, and doesn't often jump to conclusions, preferring to listen to what the pony in question has to say for themselves, first. Celestia doesn't usually enjoy being treated formally, and will often tell a joke or two, to lighten up the mood, and enjoys spending time with her younger sister, even if she is usually too busy to do so. Coming to that, Celestia, being the princess of the day, has many things she needs to get done before the sunset, often making her too busy to talk, or let alone see, her sister Princess Luna.


    Celestia, suspecting that Luna wouldn't be happy about the way the citizens of Equestria shunned her hard work, often feels concerned for the amount of appreciation Luna receives from her subjects, and how this might impact Luna's personality. Indeed, Luna seems to become more antisocial and quiet each day, but being a busy mare, she never had time to discuss these possible feelings with her sister. Of course, there would be time to do so during the night, but even then, Luna would be busy seeing to her subjects' nightmares.


    Celestia enjoys peace, and prefers to solve things through without the use of magic. She values friendship, and hopes that one day, the villains of Equestria would see the error of their ways, and to help make Equestria a better place.


    Brief History: Princess Celestia was born as the ruler of the sun and day, showing exceptional amounts of magical ability at an early age. She fought alongside her sister when Equestria was attacked by changelings, Discord, and King Sombra, though Celestia often sought peaceful confrontations with their enemies. Nowdays, as Equestria's population increases, her duties and amount of work has been increased tremendously, and Celestia rarely finds the time to get together with Luna.

    I like this Celestia. She parallels Luna really well in this AU, since she's reluctant to use magic to handle her situations, and Luna (in this story) relies on magic to solve most of her tasks in the night. I also like how one is peaceful and the other... not so much. Definitely excited to see how this goes.



    Well, now that we have everybody, I'm going to set up a roll call. Everyone who is accepted, just send me a quick "hi" or anything to let me know you're all still interested. I know this topic's been up for awhile without starting, but I'm working on the opening rp thread as we speak. We'll probably be ready to start tomorrow afternoon, if not later tonight.
