    I smiled at his comment "Guess we will have to wait and see won't we?" I said with a smile still on my face "Just don't get your hopes up." I added. Before the teacher blew the whistle and had us get in groups of two. I looked up at Jacob, who was just a little taller than me, and headed towards the wall where all the groups were. She blew the whistle and one by one groups raced back and forth. The group to the right of us went and when the whistle blew for us to go, I took off and kept a steady pace. I wouldn't let him beat me

    I smiled back at her " yes we will" I said as the other groups ran when the whistle blew . Once the teacher blew the whistle for our group I took off after Kat, she was a lot faster then I thought she was, Kat would probably end up winning after all

    My shoes made me slide instead of stop so when I started to run back, we were tied. I couldn't run any faster so I had to hope something would happen to him that would make him fall back an inch or two. The space between the line and me was quickly decreasing. Eventually we stopped and I leaned against the wall looking at him waiting for his reaction. I knew we tied but I wanted to see how he reacted to it.

    When we had to turn and run back I noticed Kat slide a bit, I ran back towards the start hoping she wouldn't be able to catch up to me. When we crossed the line I took a deep breath and looked over to Kat "you're fast, I would have lost if you didn't slide" I said

    I smiled "I didn't slide. I just uh...went easy on you is all" I said before laughing a little bit. "Maybe I need new shoes that actually grip the floor instead of turning into fuzzy socks" I said, smile still on my face. I looked into his eyes and felt my heart jump. I turned to the teacher when she said to stretch really quick and I did.

    I smiled at her comment "thanks for going easy then" I said, when the teacher told me to stretch I nodded and did as I was told " so, still wanna be on the same team when we play volleyball, or do you want to hear me?" I said with a smile

    I grabbed my foot and pulled it up "If I'm going to beat you, I'm going to do it when we are on opposite teams" I said with a smile "I say opposite teams" I added on before switching legs. I was looking forward to it actually. This way he would be able to see what happened when he lost. I smiled a little wider at the thought.

    I laughed "Oh sorry was that not a joke?" I asked "My team will win because I'm on it." I said with a smile before strenching out my arms and waiting for Jacob to finish.


    "Katherine and Jacob. You're team captains" Mr. Smith said


    I nodded before heading towards the middle of the gym like we did when we picked teams with Jacob by my side. I picked all of the actual volleyball players that I could before he could get to them even though he got some. I picked until the athletes were gone before picking the kids that just weren't really into sports. Once done, we jogged to our side of the net,and got into our spots

    "We'll see about that" I said as we moved to the middle of the gym. I watched Kat pick the athletes and volleyball players first. I shrugged and for the most part, I picked my friends or people I knew in gym. Once I finished picking my team we went to our side of the net, everyone went to their spots and waited for the game to start

    The teacher threw Hailey, a volleyball player, a ball and I got into position before she hit the ball hard over the net. I watched as the team on the other side ran around neatly to get the ball back over. Aaron spiked it and I watched as it about hit the floor before someone dived for it. I smacked it over before watching it hit the ground. "Want to switch teams now?" Asked with a smile before laughing a bit "Sorry. I can't help it. You're team isn't that bad if I do admit."

    Once they hit the ball over the net the first time, Aaron ran over to the ball and spiked it back over the net. I watched as it nearly hit the floor, but Kat had hit it back over to our side. When the ball hit the ground I turned to Kat to respond to her comment"nah, I think you just got lucky with that one." I said with a smile

    I shook my head as we continued to play. I took a step back as the ball came over the net and stepped on someone's foot. We both fell down as the ball landed next to us. We both laughed a little bit before getting up and apologizing. Lily grabbed the ball and rolled it under the net to Jacob'S team before we got ready.

    I laughed a little when Kat and her friend fell, giving us a point. Daniel picked up the ball and hit it over the net, everyone on my team got ready for them to hit it back

    I watched the ball fly back and forth between the two teams. I spiked it over but it came back over because of one of the teammates on Jacob's team. Amanda hit it back and I watched as it flew to where Jacob was. I got ready to hit it back in case it came over to me

    I watched the ball as it was hit back and forth between the team's, I sighed in relief when one of my teammates hit the ball back over after Kat had spiked it. When I saw the ball come my way I spiked it back over the net.

    I went to hit it but I was a bit late. It hit my face and bounced away. A few of my teammates came over to check on me as the teacher blew the whistle. I placed my hands by my nose and my team immediately understood what happened.


    "Jacob, please take Katherine to the office" Mr. Smith said


    I walked over to the door, my face feeling like it was on fire and my nose bleeding slightly. I looked over at Jacob "Don't feel bad. It's my fault." I said with a half smile "Also, bathroom is just fine. Office isn't needed." I added

    I walked over to Kat and sighed" I'm really sorry..." I said before turning to the teacher and nodding. I looked back at Kat "I'll take you to the bathroom." I said

    "What do you expect in a competitive volley ball game between friends. Someone is bound to get hurt. Besides I deserved this." I said which was true. "You don't have to stay if you don't want to" I said before entering the girls bathroom and reaching into a stall to get toilet paper to collect the blood.

    I nodded "I'll wait outside for you" I said as she walked into the girls bathroom. I leaned against the wall and waited for her to come out, I still felt bad for hitting her in the face with the ball
