She landed on her rear and got up with a grouchy grumble."Alright alright I'm coming." Peridot follows her closely and dusts off her own behind which now had articles of sand on it."Crummy sand.."

Arden snickered, but refrained from laughing at the green gem again. "Hey, Peri, what are days like on HomeWorld? Does the sun still rise and set? Or is it always either dark or light?" She inquired casually, staring out over the ocean at the sun's rays reflecting off gentle waves. This. She thought contentedly. This is the reason I moved to Beach City.
-
"We actually have two suns."She spoke as if she had never left Homeworld."It never gets dark; the other twin sun blocks the other's sunset..and it never rains."Peridot pronounced the word funny, trying to say it right. It was something Steven had taught her when she experienced her first rainstorm. The green gem sounded very different now.Like she was talking to an old friend. She looks up at Arden and blinks;she was waiting to be corrected.
-
Arden nodded, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "That's....kinda boring. Not saying it wouldn't be nice to have sunshine all the time, but rainstorms are fun. Not to mention I wouldn't give up sunsets or starlight for anything!" This admittedly wasn't any brilliant input, but it was the truth. Sunsets and the serene dark of night were two things she couldn't imagine anywhere missing out on. It almost made her sad to think that only Earth gems had truly experienced night, day, and everything in between.
-
Peridot looks off into the distant water as she speaks."Yellow Diamond believes that beauty is a waste of time.Something to get distracted by." She shrugs and trains her eyes back on Arden.
-
"You're joking, right?" Arden looked down at the small gem with an absolutely flabbergasted expression. "Beauty is inspiration! If I lived and worked under someone like that I would tear out my own hair." She grumbled the second bit to herself before continuing. "A world without beauty would be so....depressing... You don't believe this 'Yellow Diamond', do you?" Her eyes were still widened in shock as she stared almost expectantly at Peridot, though she wasn't sure what she was expecting from the gem.
-
Here goes a loud beep...
The female character on the game was saying something about being proud. It was a really short ending, and what just recently appeared on-screen was some words, that read out the title of the game itself: "Sound Quest 4: Bringer Of Noise". Behind those words, the backdrop changed to a forest, that played many loud animal sounds.
(I thought of the title of it at school, I was thinking about things and suddenly.. *POP!* Inspiration!)
-
"I-I dunno..maybe?" Peridot stuttered out, her voice raising but only because she felt like she was defending herself."I haven't really thought about it much.Though I guess I also haven't had anything to work on to get distracted from."
-
Arden backed off, realizing she had gotten a little too into this. "Ah, sorry. Didn't mean to bite your head off." She apologized, nibbling at her lip and focusing her gaze back on the water. She couldn't think of any good reason why she had been so touchy about it. Perhaps it was because she didn't want the gem to think Earth was just one big bad experience. HomeWorld seemed a little strict and dull from what she had heard, and she wanted this planet to be something that Peridot could admire and have fun with.
-
The subject basically tossed out the window,Peridot's eyes widen like oranges and she put a hand up to her own throat and squawks."WHAT?" Completely misunderstanding her speech and taking her words literally.
-
Arden mentally facepalmed as she realized her mistake. "Oh! Nonono! It means I didn't mean to get so upset about it!" She said quickly. She had completely forgotten that the green gem wouldn't have a clue what any of her expressions meant. I'll have to be more careful with my choice of words next time.
-
She eases a bit after her explanation."You humans have such..colorful language."Peridot was still a little doe-eyed from the whole head thing."Are you war-based sentiences?"
-
Max then decided to go on a solo mission to see if he could find any corrupted gems or maybe even spot Malachite along the way.Strangely, the gem didn't know how to use the ward pads so he usually traveled by sea if the location were the others gems were head were still on Earth. He walked out of temple and ran into the ocean before turning into a orca and swimming off into the sea.It showed that he liked the creatures of Earth since he always turned into one

She eases a bit after her explanation."You humans have such..colorful language."Peridot was still a little doe-eyed from the whole head thing."Are you war-based sentiences?"Arden frowned deeply as she considered this. "Well, I guess you could think of it that way. Earth used to be full of battle-hungry people, so all these violent phrases probably originated from them." She wasn't sure exactly, but this seemed logical enough to be true.
-
"Interesting."Peridot continued walking along the sandy shores whilst contemplating this."How old are you?" She asks, trying to make friendly conversation. "You have to be at least 14,000 years of age." Peridot observed.
-
Arden was silent for a long moment, staring blankly at the gem. When she understood, she started laughing, almost choking in every breath she took. "Not even close!" She only managed to get that out before she was finally able to compose herself. "I'm only 15. Although I guess in gem terms I would be around that age, eh? What about you?" The teen finished her reply while still wiping tears of amusement from her eyes.
-
Peridot blushes and crosses her arms."17,000."She keeps walking, staring into the ocean in silent longing. I want my stuff She thought and huffs a bit like a child.
-
"Wow..." Was the first thing to come out of Arden's mouth. She was perfectly aware from the start that gems were inhuman, but immortality had not crossed her mind. "I gotta ask, do you remember anything from when you started? Or do you not bother with personal memories at all?" If she really were to be 14,000 years old she would want to remember as much as possible, but it may be a different story for someone who lived in a place like HomeWorld.
-
"I remember vividly only what I consider significant."She replies with a nod."Which is quite a lot; though it mainly consists of data and other important collections of information. And as for my beginning, well, I needn't remember that specifically.Since I started off like any other gem; it isn't of any significance to me.I tossed that information just as soon as I collected it. " Peridot shrugs casually as if her memories didn't matter."As for the rest of my memory, I know for a fact I was taught HomeWorld customs and raised to understand the ranks and functionalities of our community. As any Peridot would. We are the few gems, that aren't of a Quartz rank, that are taught just about all there is to teach.Though what you're taught is varied amongst gems. For example, Pearls are taught to serve their masters and only think on a certain level. When young, they are forced to memorize certain phrases and sentences." Peridot looked very indifferent as she spoke. It wasn't her fault though; being factual and un-emotionally attached to things (other than her own belongings) was all she knew.Nearly 17,000 years of being raised in a emotion-discouraged, original-idea discouraging, society really set someone like her in stone.
-
"I see.." Arden murmured, unable to keep her gaze on the gem. She knew she should have expected an answer like that, but that didn't stop it from depressing her. To only know what someone tells you and only think how you're taught seemed so dark and awful. Being human, of course she was very emotionally-driven and learned a lot that she knew from experiences she had. A memory was a lesson. It was an important time in someone's life that they are supposed to hold dear, not the kinds of things someone orders and expects of them. The teen opened and closed her mouth, trying to think of a more thoughtful response, but she couldn't find one. She didn't want to know anything more about HomeWorld. Not about the ranking, or the technology, or Yellow Diamond. It may be the custom out there, but it sounded horrible.
