  • She sighed in annoyance, "your clearly not doing fine. You've nearly died twice in a row and you've never met a born vampire before, Lynn. They seem so normal, so human until they hit their majority. Whatever age this boy is, when he turns eighteen, he'll be just as bad as the sister that almost killed you." She told her

  • "This is not open for discussion, Lynn. She's going. She'll understand if you don't want the boy killed yet but we will kill him before he reaches his eighteenth birthday, before he gets his full powers." She said firmly.

  • Her parents said that Lynn needed to rest and that's why she wasn't down here. They stayed for a few hours then left.
The next morning, Scarlett walked towards her new school. She'd been told there was a born vampire here and that Lynn didn't want him killed yet so she was really curious.

  • Scarlett walked into class as well, looking around. The teacher introduced her as she sat down next to Lynn, her gaze travelling over the students but Vlad's desk was empty.

  • She sighed in boredom, resting her hand on her jaw for most of the class. At near the end of class, she glanced up when the door opened and Vlad walked in. "That's him, isn't it?" She whispered as the teacher stepped forward, "Vlad! What time do you call this?" The teacher said in annoyance, "sorry. Family emergency." Vlad said softly then walked to his desk, sitting down without another word. He didn't look at Lynn and Scarlett.

  • Scarlett followed her gaze, watching as well. She frowned slightly, in confusion. She looked back at Lynn as the end of class bell rang, wondering what the other slayer was going to do.

  • Scarlett waited as well, watching the teacher call Vlad to the front. They both talked in low tones for a few minutes then the teacher nodded and left the room. Vlad glanced back at Lynn and Scarlett, watching as Scarlett got up and walked to the door, pausing there as if she meant to cut him off. "So, after all the stories I've heard about born vampires, this is what I find when I get here." She said, nastily. Vlad didn't react, used to this from his sister. "If you came all this way and can do no better than insult me when you arrive then clearly I have nothing to worry about." He said softly and turned to leave the room. Scarlett stepped forward so she was beside the door and shot her arm out, blocking the exit and Vlad stopped just before he reached her arm, glancing at her. "I'm not done yet. This room is totally empty and I am fully equipped to kill a dozen vampires, let alone one. What's to stop me killing you right now?" She hissed, smirking. "The fact that you haven't." He said and her smirk faded, replaced with a look of confusion. "Vampires are faster, stronger, are almost immortal and have much better reflexes than humans, even slayers. If you really wanted to kill me, you wouldn't announce it first. Every good slayer knows that." He said then pushed past her, leaving the room. She stared after him, a look of shock on her face.

  • Scarlett stepped in front of Lynn, crossing her arms. "Your boyfriend won't live to see the end of the school day!" She hissed in fury then turned to walk off, in the opposite direction Vlad had taken.
