Candle Quartz ran down the dark corridor, her footsteps echoing all around the metal ship. The gem began to slow down and leaned around the corner to look down another hall. There they were; the extra escape pods only to be used by the highest ranking gems first, then the lower, less important gems in the case of an emergency.

"No more of that for me," she whispered to herself. Candle Quartz half-crawled-half-ran to the nearest door. The guards that normally patrolled this area were gone and about to be replaced by other buff gem guards, so she had to move quick. Her rough, white, kite-shaped gem began to glow and she pulled out a glowing white orb. She pulled on it, and it began to stretch like putty in her hands. She stretched it all along the door opening, then ran off back to the corner she was originally behind.

    BOOM! CRASH!

Smoke filled the air as sirens began to go off; the door that lead to the escape pod was blasted open, giving her access to her only way off this gem-forsaken ship. The giant quartz raced over, ducking into the small ship and starting the engines.

"Time to get outta here, finally." She said as she chuckled in relief; she could finally get away from these crazy gems. Always making her do those terrible things, making other creatures scared of the gem race--it just wasn't right to her. She shook the thoughts out of her head and set her coordinates, but to her dismay, a gem guard showed up out of nowhere.

"Hey, get out of there this instant!" The Agate gem shouted at her with a deep, husky voice.

Candle Quartz gasped, slamming her hand down on the door's close button. Before it was able to close all of the way, the Agate pulled out her destabilizer, firing a single shot straight at the rebel gem.

"No, not now!" She screamed out in pain. Her body began to shatter, then--poof--disappeared. Her gem sat in the seat of the pod, which managed to blast out of the mother ship to her desired destination; Earth.

Steven stood on the beach, laughing as the pulsing waves washed over his flip-flopped feet, tickling his toes. He wanted to go swimming, but Pearl didn't like him going deep without her watching; something about under currents and stuff. Humming under his breath, he splashed along the shore, looking up to watch the seagulls as the took off, screaming at him. He laughed. "Not so brave now that there's no jam, huh?" he said. But then he paused. Up, high in the sky, he saw something that was most decidedly not a sea gull. It was too far off to make it out clearly-but whatever it was, it was falling. Fast. In his direction. "Uwa!" cried out Steven, eyes wide. Was it more Homeworld gems? He swallowed nervously, taking a few steps back towards the temple, eyes still locked on the distant object.

A booming sound could be heard all throughout Beach City as the escape pod that Candle Quartz stole finally broke through Earth's atmosphere. After a week of travel, she was finally there--not that she really knew that; the quartz hadn't reformed yet after being attacked by that blasted guard. At least she was finally where she wanted to be, and not back with the other Homeworld gems where she was always told where to go by her commanding officers.

The turquoise orb plummeted down towards the beach where she had hoped the Crystal Gems would be; she had found some information about the Gems and their location in the ship's database, she just hoped that it was legit.

With a loud crash, the pod made impact with the sandy beach, nearly burying itself under the sand. Water began to fill the hole, but the heat from the metallic ship instantly evaporated the liquid. Under normal circumstances, it would have been given the command to dig itself out of the sand and been opened by the passenger, but the poofed gem was unable to tell it what to do. The escape pod sat in its little crash site, the sand slowly engulfing the small ship.

  • Steven stared at the pod, eyes wide. "GAAAAARNET! PEEAAAAARL! AMETHYST!" he yelled, unsure if he should approach it himself. What was it? He took a hesitant step forward, reaching out, then flinching back as the metal ship hissed with heat.

  • The internal sensors detected movement from outside of the ship. The engine, although battered and weak from the flight there, turned itself on and opened the hatch. Sand immediately began flooding the compartment, clogging the machinery with tiny grains of rock--nothing serious, but still a nuisance.

'Life form detected, scan in progress.' spoke the cold, robotic voice from inside the pod. A green beam shined on Steven, scanning his entire body.

'Species: Human. Planet: Earth. No threat detected.' The computer concluded, although it made the mistake of overlooking the gemstone on his belly; it might have been mistaken as jewelry, or the computer was too full of sand to function properly.

  • Despite his nervousness, Steven couldn't help laughing. "Haheh, that tickles!" he said as the green light swept over him. Pausing, he stepped closer-maybe it was cool enough to approach now. Grunting, he ducked carefully inside, peering around. "Hello?" It looked empty. But looks can be deceiving. Steven's eyes widened as he noticed a lone white gem, sitting alone. Hesitantly, he moved to pick it up gently. Should he bubble it?

  • The gemstone seemed to react to the boy's touch; as soon as he picked it up, it began to glow, levitating out of his hands. It floated away, hovering over the sand a couple feet away from Steven. A humanoid shape made of light began to form; first the body, then the hair sprouted out of its head, then clothes formed on the shape's body. The figure fully materialized, revealing a giant quartz. Her milky white dreadlocks fell in front of her even paler face, and her clothes could obviously be identified as being from Homeworld. She tried to stand up, but she felt light headed and fell back down onto the sand.

"Ugh...that felt horrible." She grunted, her voice deep but smooth. The gem then noticed Steven standing nearby. "Hello there, human...boy? Am I on the planet Earth?" She asked; she was confident that she was, but still wanted to make sure from someone endemic to this planet.

  • Steven stared, eyes wide. His eyes darted towards the temple for a moment, then back to this stranger. "Huh? Yeah, this is Earth." Pausing, he mustered up the courage to offer a friendly smile, offering his hand to help her up, even though she was larger than he. "Hi! My name's Steven. What's your name?"

  • "Steven, huh? That's a weird name." She giggled, taking his small hand but also making sure she didn't pull him down as she stood up.

"I'm a Candle Quartz." She answered politely. Candle towered over Steven at a whopping 8'5, so she had to crane her neck down to look at him. She kneeled down to make it less awkward between the two.

"Is that where you live?" She asked as she gestured towards the giant temple behind them. 'It fits the description.' She thought hopefully. "I'd love to meet your...family?" Was that the right word? Who knows.

  • Steven hesitated. She seemed a whole lot nicer than most of the other Homeworld gems he'd met. Smiling hesitantly, he nodded. "Yep, that's my house. And the giant statue holding it is the temple. The Crys-er my… family, lives there," he said, not sure how much to tell her.

  • Candle could sense the hesitation in his voice, which was totally understandable; if a strange gem fell out of the sky and started asking her questions, she'd be pretty freaked out, too.

"I'm not going to hurt you, I promise. I want to help, actually." She smiled, hoping that by being kind, she would gain his trust faster.
