• [fancypost bgcolor=; border: 0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 10.5px; color: white;]for the first few minutes of the train ride, roman had rested his head upon the window, looking out at his reflection and the scotland landscape in front of him. eventually, they had pulled their head back and rested it instead on the cushioned wall behind them, because the vibrations had been giving them a headache.

the second-year slytherin is quite alone in his compartment, just the way he likes it, even if it does make for a boring trip. they can sleep if they want, or read a book, or do absolutely nothing at all. it depends on how he's feeling. if they're tired. if he's in a bookish mood.

    it depends. yes.

    Wow. Just ... wow.

Looking at himself objectively, in comparison to everyone else around him - from first years all the way up to seventh years, teachers and the ghosts and mysterious squeaking noises that seem to have no source at all but you know they're there, darn it - there was one thing that Miyu, unfortunately, had to admit to himself.

It wasn't anything extreme, however, no matter how dire it sounded when you put it like that. No, it was only an innocuous observation - something noticed when walking through a crowd of people that were around his height but at the same time entirely not, teeming with curiosity, gaping mouths, dropped jaws and the brightened eyes of awe directed all around this magnificent castle by those that had simply never seen anything like it in their lives ever before. The contrast between them.

It also wasn't as if he suffered from anything major, like back pains or twinges in his knee or a blur in his eyesight or anything - if he had back pain it was because he slept slumped over a book on a couch in his common room trying unsuccessfully to study, and if he had a twinge in his knee it was because something possibly bit him, and the only blurs in his vision came from seeing stars from a head-on collision or staying up so ridiculously late running around the castle that he would just sag against the wall and start snoring ... loudly.

Which then summoned the caretaker, a whack to wake him up, a scolding and a detention. Augh. Every single time.

In any case ... it just has so much of an impact. Seeing those arrivals into Hogwarts bustling in and accustoming themselves here all around so inquisitively every year, watching them shoot up as he probably gained a dismal inch over the holidays ...

Not that Miyu was short, but watching the lower years under him definitely sent a very strong message home. One that he hadn't, previously, thought to even consider.

Now in his sixth year, still as excited about Hogwarts as ever because it never seemed to end whenever he explored it tirelessly time after time with no Invisibility Cloak but enormous shoes clopping on the floor at a dead sprint and a sheepish wheezed laugh trying to escape from someone once he was caught ... Miyu was old.

So old. He was practically ancient by Hogwarts terms. One more year, then he had to fully concentrate on his N.E.W.T.s where he couldn't dare lose focus and get any grades that mind send him spiraling into a useless hopeless future probably being the caretaker of Hogwarts hobbling around with a little cat padding silently after him with little mewls and deadly accurate hearing. Two more years ... then it would all be over.

Five years here, and yet the wonder of Hogwarts still hasn't worn off. Every book, every spell, every magical animal he encounters and every wizarding custom - he still can't get over the fact that this world is so different. You'd think that this made studying all the more interesting, but you just can't help being a kinetic learner!

The Hufflepuff, of course putting off changing into his robes at the last minute and dressed instead in a ridiculously casual-looking (and that was by itself, let alone in comparison with robes) short-sleeved hoodie and really puffy pants - why? Because his legs needed to breathe, alright - and still dumbfounded over his new epiphany (he's going to get wrinkles), mindlessly slides the compartment door open.

He stands in the doorway unnecessarily long, staring at the seated person already there, and his mind dog-paddles back a few steps. Okay, getting onto the train, happily greeting everyone he knew and everyone else besides, merrily tromping up to his usual compartment ... wait. There. Then he'd gotten sidetracked, had it hit him like a brick that he was one of the older ones here, and for some subconscious reason just dramatically painstakingly trudged forward further like a haunted ghost ...

Oh, yeah, so that's why he's here.

He'd just forgotten that he had continued onward like so and presumed that this was his usual compartment. He was wrong. But, you know, that wasn't too bad. Friendship, right?

So Miyu, his suitcase a messenger back that weighed approximately nothing at all, beams right at the Slytherin and asks cheerfully with a merry wave, "Oh, hey there! Heh, well, is it cool if I sit here?"

  • Nico hated the first day of school. He loved Hogwarts (Even though he thought his sorting was completely bogus, he should have been in Ravenclaw!), but hated the train ride. Bullies reunited with their victims, friends met up again, and the rest were left to awkwardly find a compartment and sit.

Nico usually looked for Miyu, who was a fellow 5th year and his friend of many years. However, in the process of boarding, the teen had no idea where his happy-go-lucky friend went. Many had no idea how the friendship between the Gryffindor and the Hufflepuff began, or even how it worked out. Nicostrata came from a large family of wizards, and could always be seen studying for exams. Miyu was often clowning, but for some reason stuck with Nico like glue. Or, it was more like the other way around.

Dressed in casual jeans and a plain grey tee (robe over top of course), Nico stepped into another random compartment, hoping it was either empty or had Miyu lurking within. He was not disappointed.

"M-Mind if I sit here?" He asked, looking awkward in the doorway. He fiddled with his necklace while he looked at the other person in the compartment, nervously awaiting the answer.

    Haley was running.
She'd gotten to the platform just in time and had then proceeded to give her luggage in and argue with one of her NPC friends over the best Bertie Bott's Beans flavors. She had run to the bathroom and by the time she had returned, the train was starting to move. And so, the young girl was running after it, jacket flapping out behind her as she dodged past surprised people, looking for a good place to swing on. This was only her second year, and she did not intend on missing it.
A muggleborn, Haley had only had a year with knowledge of the magical world. She always kind of had a sense for it, but it wasn't until an actual wizard showed up at their house one day that she understood. Now, here she was, about to start her second school term, and she was about to lose it.
Haley finally managed to leap and grab onto a pole, swinging herself up and around onto the little platform outside the door just as the train left the station. She stood there for a moment, breathing hard, before finally walking into the train car. Several people have her odd looks, but no one asked any questions. As Haley walked down the narrow hall, a rustling in her satchel caught her attention. Her pet, a blue rabbit (turned blue by a mishap in her previous year) poked his head out. She grinned and picked him up to hold him as she searched for a seat.
The female was clothed in jeans and black converse, with a white t-shirt under a blue sweater, covered by a dark grey and blue jacket. She was about 5'1, about average for a twelve year old, and had shoulder-length golden brown hair and green eyes. Haley wasn't pale, but nearly so, and had a splash of freckles across her nose. Her brown satchel hung at her hip, holding a few books and her robes to change into, along with some money for the candy trolley. The ride would take all day- why not eat some snacks? The girl made her way down the hall, only to see Miyu, a familiar Hufflepuff face, leaning into a doorway with another boy at his side. Were they asking to enter? She hadn't spotted any of her friends, so the girl headed over there.
"Hello!" The second-year Ravenclaw joined the group, brushing a lock of golden-brown hair out of her face, "Mind if I join you?"

⋆⋆⋆ 'Is it cool if I sit here?' 'Mind if I sit here? 'Mind if I join you?'

They were all so polite. It was quite sickening.

Meanwhile, another person was appearing in the doorway of poor Rome's little train compartment. This time it was a third-year, and the Slytherin had a blank look on her face which was only slightly comforting compared to her other most commonly worn expression, which was a rather disturbing grin.

Aradia's appearance wasn't any more reassuring. She had long black hair that was extremely unkempt, and it hung down her back and over her shoulders and went down almost to her almost to her knees. She wore the typical black robes, but the bottom of them was torn and full of holes. Her green-and-black Slytherin tie looked mostly new, though. However it didn't exactly hide her necklace which looked suspiciously like human bones. They were fake, right? Sure. You can believe that.

"I am sitting here." Aradia finally announced after standing there for a whole minute, silently studying each of the other students there. She slowly walked into the compartment, sinking into a seat beside Haley. She had of course seen Rome before in her previous years, since they were in the same House, but she doubted he liked her very much. In fact, she had seen everyone here a few times, but no one ever did seem to like her. She was okay with that, though.

  • Nico looked up at Rome, looked at Miyu, then looked back down at his necklace, of which he continued to play with. He shuffled his feet uneasily, and muttered a slight thank you towards the Slytherin. He tapped Miyu o the shoulder and gave his friend a meaningful look. He sure as hell was not going to get into the compartment with two Slytherins without Miyu going first. Whether he was using Miyu as a shield or a safety blanket remained to be seen, but either way he was going first.

//so much muse I just cant

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px]To think that, this year, Miyu wouldn't be a fifth year anymore - now he would be joining the ranks of all the wrinkly sixth years. He was going to turn sixteen and he was going to be so old. So old. Goodbye, youth. Goodbye, pimplefree days. Already the black hole of adolescence has begun to swallow him whole ...

... This entire diatribe is one that he's expressed numerous times before. Every year, on this exact train ride.

    Gotta maintain tradition, you know?

The thing is that in all the years preceding this - even in first year, slumped over his seat in the compartment he'd come to known as his regular one complaining passionately and balefully to the sheepish, rather frightened-looking similar first year before him, griping all about his age and the loss of his innocence and how time was going by so fast, everything's going to change so much - he'd always had someone in particular to complain to all about this. Miyu kept a large cache of friends under his belt, maybe quite a few unrequited, but there wasn't really anyone like Nicostrata.

Nico ... who he kinda ... left behind ... uh oh.

Except the split second look of absolute sheepishness that flashes onto Miyu's face is henceforth stripped away when aforementioned Nico manages to appear behind him, guilty expression replaced at once by relieved happiness. 'NICO, hey!' the brunet cheers, twisting to face him and in only the most solemn of all bro-mannered greetings diagonally raising the back of his wrist to bump where Nico's arm would, allegedly, do the same thing in return.

... It's more casual when it's not being described.

Then there's Haley, who Miyu grins at, and the poor overwhelmed initial occupant of the previously-empty compartment agrees to ... grant them passage. Then there comes a third year Slytherin that comes in and merely sits down; a familiar face, Aradia, that never fails to for some reason give Miyu shivers - really, it's inexplicable, and there's nothing he ever felt so much about that as guilt, but then he looks at her horror movie-esque long hair and that necklace and he feels ready to sprout wings on his giant shoes and fly into the sun.

    Friendship, though. Friendship was important.

'Sweet!' the brunet exclaims animatedly at Rome's acceptance, and even without Nico's indication, though it was answered with a reassuring nod, plops down right next to Rome - highly oblivious to his status as a meat shield.

    Thanks, Nico.

Miyu brightens a second after he contacts the seat, immediately grabs at his bag to sift through. 'Hey, I brought food!' he announces, almost kicking his feet with all his very mature excitement. Aw yes. 'You can all have some! Here, look!'

And so Miyu extracts approximately thirteen packets of gummy bears. How did they even fit.

"uh. go right ahead," they murmur under their breath, shifting a little in their seat. of all the people to visit his compartment.

  • Nico sat next to Aradia, wincing a bit as he sat down. He looked at Miyu and sighed. "M-Miyu, how did you even get all of those?" He questioned. "I-It looks l-like you bought out the whole store..."He mumbled as he took a bag, setting it on his lap.

He opened the bag, then looked around as he began to munch on the strange snack. Or, it was weird to Nico. Miyu was always introducing him to strange muggle stuff all the time. His mother grew up as a muggle-born, but refused to tell him anything about his roots. She claimed that they were dirty, and disgusting. His father more or less agreed.

So, this lead to Nico spending every holiday at Hogwarts, and a good portion of his summer with Miyu. He loved his parents, but hated the ideals.

In any event, the small Gryffindor looked up at said friend, smiling slightly. "D-Did you finish the History of Magic essay? I did 2 extra rolls of parchment, j-just in case I m-misheard the pr-professor." Miyu was almost notorious for forgetting things. A quill here, a book there. So it was up to Nico to pester Miyu until he remembered.

Haley took a seat on the opposite side of Rome and Miyu, next to Aradia, but not next to Aradia. The Slytherin was creepy, and Haley was just generally cautious of all Slytherins anyways, despite her roleplayer being one. Anyways, the girl brightened as she saw Miyu's gummy bears. At his mention of sharing them, she snatched a pack and ripped it open, choosing a green in first. Mm.
She sat in silence for awhile until Nico spoke up about some sort of assignment. "Did you have homework over the summer or something?" she asked the Gryffindor, curious. She'd never heard of such a thing, much less need it or want it. Her parents were queasy enough around magic. The tween glanced out the window at the scenery before returning her gaze to Nico.

It's n-not going to ki-kill you." Nico was determined. He wasn't going to help Miyu cram last minute, he wasn't going to walk Miyu through every step of his Potions papers.
