So I was recently reading http://feralfront.com/index.php?topic=2234853.14 and realized we could probably do something to help boost activity. We might be slower now, but there is still a whole TON of people on this site that could work together to help the site. I noticed the Main Game is slowing down and really hard to get into. (I never went straight to it in the beginning and even now I still find it really difficult to get into it.) Maybe there is something we can do. I notice RP is still a big thing through many communities. So are Pet Sites. On dA, there are even things like SheduCats that are HUGE groups of RPs that have a different style than what I see on dA. They are a community RPing like a Pet Site. Meaning they grow their characters and use stats like you see in video games. I'm wondering if we can use our knowledge from what is already out in the world and working to help make FeralFront's activity go up. Please do speak your mind here, I'm really interested in hearing other opinions/ideas.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: 0px; width: 400px; min-height: 200px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8pt;]I'm a very traditional Roleplayer. I have been since I started. These new pets and such are a turn off for me, but may be very interesting to the newer generation of RPers. That may be where we're at right now. An in between with generations where my generation and the one above are beginning to grow out of it and the younger ones may not be interested in it or haven't found it yet.
I also think the web is dying. By that I mean everything has gone mobile. No one uses a laptop or desktop when you can just pull out your phone and have it all right there. I've even noticed how many more mobile posts I'm seeing.
We could possibly tie this into "Appealing to the new generation" by possibly focusing an app around the site? This could, essentially, tie the fast paced life many of us are growing accustomed to through movies and games, as well as the traditional RP style (but now on the go!
marketing slogan called it). Possible games to level up pets instead of posting with them, genetics tests, site history quizzes, clan/tribe/group quizzes, but also have the option to make posts, in order to keep the site's play-by-writing point of origin. There's my two cents :)

chocco I never mind if people track.

Vestigial, I am also a more traditional Roleplayer, but from what I've seen a good portion of people who do the more 'mobile' or 'stat favored/new gen' RPing still like to do the P-B-W (Play by Write). I myself use PBW with the new gen RPing since I don't mind either. I'm not saying make it very pet focused and gaming and quizzes, but just using our knowledge as RPs and intellectual, adaptive peoples to make the RPing maybe a bit more interesting character wise. We already do this with breeding the characters and using correct, realistic, or made up genetic systems. That's what I mean. Here is an example.
Let's say my character is Examplepaw.
Examplepaw is a healthy tomcat with good genetics and stats.
If he mates later in life with Modelpaw they will pass on their good genetics and stats.
The kits might have Examplepaw's good genetics and Modelpaw's quick and powerful stats.
However all stat gains and other things in life are RPed in a PBW style. -
[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: 0px; width: 400px; min-height: 200px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8pt;] Hm, apparently I misunderstood the question.
I haven't spent much time around the newer features of the site, so I wouldn't know how to add onto them to make them more appealing to users (if that's what you're asking). I have dabbled in genetics (actually started in AP Bio last year which is a rather interesting time) and I do enjoy that portion of the site. It does add a big realism factor for the way the game is played. That and the now ginormous family trees which is really fun to track your characters through.
Um... I know the staff-crafted things such as the BioDome pull a lot of activity. They are rather ingenious in such a way that everyone wants to be involved because it's almost a site-wide activity.
For other PBW suggestions I think we just need more site-wide events or plots. Plots that are more interactive instead of "This clan throwing a party" because those are all fluff and peter out. Currently, ToMS is in a civil war, which is great it spurs activity in the tribe and pulls more people in, but I think we need to go bigger. Site wide battle. Anti-clans v. pro-clans. Rouges on the offence. Floods. Disaster. The stuff in YA books that're being turned into movies left and right. People enjoy reading about them, why not write about them too?

I think the stats could be interesting, but I remember trying to join a site that had a RP based around stats and it was VERY confusing for me. Maybe because I've been roleplaying 'traditionally' for a few years now.
I think Vestigial's idea is a good one- if we maybe got one clan trying to start an empire, or the afterlife coming down to try takeover for Halloween, or something.
I do think, however, the stats as genetics could be interesting & fun! Just more as a member-created thing though? Like a 'family' but a stat database idk.
An app would be beneficial, but it would cost a lot to develop. The site works fine for me on my iPad which I use most of time, but maybe if we had a more accessible mobile layout? Just a simplified version of the one we have now.
I also think that as the Pets expand, the site will as well, especially when/if breeding is introduced. Stats could actually be really fun in the pet game!
-
Vestigial, I agree with the events. I remember when we use to use real weather as an effect on clans which I liked to follow. Currently, I'm getting an onslaught of rain in RL which would be fascinating to see affect the clans much like the hurricanes and snows use to. I feel the clans need to be more in contact with each other as well. You always see people favor one clan or very minimal (usually parties/gifts) contact with clans. Why don't we have diplomats, politics, wars, civil wars, alliances, enemies like we use to? They were so much more of a driving force than they are now.
Glisade, some stat RPs are confusing, but I think that's more of a lack of communication. I enjoy a good portion of sites that use stats, but there are very few guides that actually fully and comprehensibly explain them. More family trees/family interactions (Much like in ancient times how royal families would create better standings with each other by having relationships or marriages between them) as well as genetics and stats would make it really interesting.
-
[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: 0px; width: 400px; min-height: 200px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8pt;] Ooooo I don't think I was around for weather but THAT WOULD BE COOL! Changing by the seasons...
Yessss I can imagine it now.But politics is a big hells yeah from me. More game of thrones, more border disputes and territorial gain, more long-lasting effects which will then later alter the way of roleplaying throughout the site. Maybe a site historian to just keep track of everything that's happened. I'd love to do that that would be fun.
Oh I get it now. So stats per character based on lineage. Do you think that would cause a problem in the maingame with overpowering? Or are we talking pets which would be cool. Then we could do like battle-pets or something and make 'em fight each other. Winner gets silver or something.
-
Vestigial, weather was amazing. I'd love things like politics to be more as well. I remember when we had a map. It's no longer updated from what I'm aware of, but it was pretty cool. I'd love to see that return as well and watch the territories be pushed and pulled and taken and threatened.
A site historian would be difficult, but nice. It'd probably end up being a group of historians instead of one. I'd also like to see disease and other effects as well that seriously hurt or help the story. As for stats, I doubt it would cause many problems, because with most stat like systems there is a limit to how much you can have in a stat and injury or disease could affect it. Having pets have it too could be neat, but I think it'd help the main game by adding something to work towards. A cat with nice genetics and stats would be favored, but hard to obtain since you'd have to seriously track family trees to make sure no inbreeding happens that would lower stats. I'd also love to see some things like mutations or powers have an ability to be passed down through genetics or stats even if you still had to use silver to get them. Like buying a silver item that makes the trait passable. That'd be neat. -
In my opinion it's a matter of bringing in new members. Warriors is an old and withering fandom, even though the site has developed from there. Recruiting new members and creating a program to support and introduce them would be wonderful. The site has become very complicated and hard to understand for most.
-
ailes, this is also true. I'm not certain how we could recruit more members however. It's hard to get a person hooked on a book and it's harder to get them into something like roleplay.

Bump! I still want to here opinions. :3

⭐️Ooc⭐️ I'm dittoing Ailes here. I've attempted to convince numerous people to come onto the site but to no avail. I think that, keeping in line with Vestigial's mention of weather, more site-wide plots, like the Living Legend, would be great, and it might pull people in. I was not around for weather either I don't believe but it would be pretty cool.
But I also think that we need to advertise. Now, I'm not saying the administrators should spend money on advertising, because they are already struggling and getting by on donations from members and such. But to start, until we do get the funds to advertise, we must rely on word-of-mouth, and as you said, Ashes, it's quite difficult to get people hooked onto the Warriors series and more difficult to get into roleplay. Not to mention, there is a lot of stigma surrounding roleplay, especially in this era. When I tell people I roleplay on a Warrior Cats site that's run by staff and has tons of members and has Clans and stuff they shoot me weird looks or ask me what it is, sometimes both. Roleplay is just not accepted in society, IMO. It has a lot of stereotypes and negativity surrounding it. For this reason, I think it drives people away.

actually, the mods have put a lot of effort in detaching this site from the warriors fandom by the sheer reason that warriors is quite a restricted fanbase (which had been okay in the previous years as warriors was in its peak, but as of recently has far begun going down in popularity) - hence the name change from something less specific as 'warriorcatsrpg' into 'feralfront', the far wider acceptance of [all] other animals into the main game and our expanding other rp area, etc.
what ive been thinking that ff's activity problem might not have a solution - fandoms catch fire and they burn with tons of people which is what entirely fueled warriorcatsrpg, with everyone so strongly invested in warrior cats. now that feralfront's broadened entirely and warrior cats has died down - the site is spread so thinly with many fandoms and it may actually be hard to attract any interest because of this. ive invited a friend as well but she told me she was too intimidated to rp anywhere on here but in private threads with me.
i personally really like the idea of a stats sort of system, maybe randomized if youre making a new character, like adding that feature to the generated name, age, personality and appearance for an entirely new character you can get with the pet avatar system -
but for fixing activity in general, i dont know how much we can do. : (

Nᴀᴛsᴜᴋᴀsʜɪɪ, there is no need to feel like your advertising. Your topic was very interesting and I enjoyed reading it and seeing the opinions of others.

Alpha Kratt, you are right when you say roleplay gets you weird looks. It's very hard to find someone in RL to talk to this about. The most I've ever found were D&D players who I love dearly and a BFF of mine since we were real young and have developed our old 'doll and house' thing into RP so we can enjoy more plot.
Tespooka, you are also correct. The Warriors fandom is fading with the few stragglers we see here and there picking up the book and joining the dying fandom. Sadly it's not enough to keep the fandom alive. With the RP stretched thin I'm not certain what to do. However, I can tell you a reorganization of the forums could be in order. It's horribly painful to find things sometimes. As for the intimidation of RP, I have a friend just like that. They prefer to have it 1x1 instead of a group. Besides that and with the stats I'm glad you like the idea. I thought it might help out and just in general gives you a nice way of showing how your character can handle things. The system we have currently of 'easy', 'medium', and 'hard' is just too broad in some ways. Your character might be 'easy' but could be fast enough or smart enough to evade and win against a 'medium'.
