She was trouble; this much was obvious, even during the short amount of time she had been here in Boneclan. She was messy, loud, and boisterous, unabashed in all of those traits. She didn't waste time worrying about how others viewed her (except for maybe when no one was around) and instead focused on having fun, entertaining herself. "This was not what I woke up for!" She ended up shouting, ducking her head as another songbird plummeted through the air, diving to try and catch the top of her head with its small claws. Honestly, if it were only the little guy, this wouldn't be an issue. However, this bird was joined by its friends, a few other songbirds, two crows, and a freakin' eagle. Hey - if an elk could live with lions, songbirds could live with an eagle. Of course, they had a far more complex society built on a hierarchal system, seasonly tributes, and a unifying religion that worshipped the embodiment of their politics, like Robespierre's - you know what? Not the point. But Minaiben cried out, panicked a little bit as the eagle landed on the her back, and tore a chunk of flesh from her neck. |
Yet with Minaiben's tone and childish pout, it was almost cute. She hadn't even registered the small tear by her spine, busy tossing her head about to try and knock a few tweeties out of the sky. /feel free to powerplay birds. [/fancypost] |

There was an odd, twisted, bubbling wail, a rather vile crunch, and then a dull thud that soon followed, and oh, Sam had always wondered what sound an eagle made when its blood was boiled rapidly, and then frozen immediately afterwards.
It was rather messy, too; the corpse was a mangled mess by the time it hit the ground, but Samriel was not focusing on the appearance of his latest victim as he swung his staff into his hand, reared onto his hind legs and ready to help his rather overwhelmed sibling fight off the unusually enraged avians. The first had been killed with almost unnecessary energy, but perhaps the mage had been making a point; either way, the others he faced would be dispatched with swift, effortless precision, so that he did not tire quickly. One songbird was hit square in the chest with violet lightning; the electricity arced and struck three more, and the four dropped down, one heading for Minai but the others safely slamming against the earth. This earned attention, admittedly, but when one crow decided it was going to go for him, he merely twirled his staff like a baton and swung at it in the manner of a batter hitting a baseball, and it spiralled away, only to be consumed by ice that cracked to leave a frozen body behind.
His eyes locked on the other, damned crow; he'd never liked those birds, creatures of death, lurking 'round carrion and shrieking in the night. " Ma halam, " he muttered at its flapping form, slamming the butt of his staff into the ground and clenching his free fist; the crow burst into flames, raising a cacophony as it burnt, immolated. Some of the other birds had been deterred by the sudden attack of the elements, and Samriel would raise hell with lightning again, shooting minor bolts at the smaller songbirds and felling them one by one as he did so. " Minai! " he called, once he could see through the birds. " Minai, how come these things only seem to happen to you? "

He was murdering them. He was killing them, more and more. Her eyes were wide as she watched the bodies of birds drop from the sky and her heart almost felt like it would stop. Why couldn't he just scare them away with a loud sound or aim near them to fright them off. No, he had to kill them. She moved forward elegantly through the scene wary of the birds still fluttering about before she paused and watched as one attempted a dive at her. Twirling her body neatly she slashed dark claws through the air which frightened the bird and it veered away. But then it happened, like another persona taking form and dark grin swept over her maw before her jaws parted, rolling with dark red smoke before a stream of fire left and incinerated the retreating bird. Hmm, that could be lunch. "How did you make so many of them mad?" The advisor asked almost dully as she leaped up in the air and catch a bird by the wing to pin it down and shoot flames right at its face.

The eagle made a horrible noise as it died, and Minaiben found herself shaking a songbird's corpse from her head. She hadn't expected there to be such sudden death above her head, and for a moment, the halla was more frightened of what was causing the death of the birds before spotting her brother. That was, in itself, both a blessing and a curse: a blessing, in that the onslaught of the eagle had been swiftly interrupted; a curse in that Minaiben wasn't entirely used to seeing her brother fight and it unnerved him a little bit. However, the ache between her shoulders brought her back to the present and she managed a grin towards the other Lavellan. Her voice raised itself with no lack of ease, a slight triumph in her tone.
"Hey! At least it's exciting!"She laughed, and raised up onto her hind legs to knock down the other crow with a swing of her head, antlers impacting the small body with a crunch, wet and sickening. This was battle though, and she wasn't going to sit out and be unappreciative. At Tauriel's question, Minaiben spun about and kicked at a low flying avian - missing narrowly as it ducked.
"Turns out, there's a whole group of 'em that I pissed off! Someone tried to make a nest in my antlers, and I was not so accommodating."

Exciting? Samriel, on thought, would have to agree; he conceded with a nod, swinging at another songbird that fluttered out of his way, apparently snapped out of its trance and convinced that fleeing was the smartest thing to do. Most of his mana was exhausted, so he could only fire a minor bolt at it to help it on its fearful way. The dragon watched as Tauriel at first only swung with halfhearted claws at an attacking avian, before abruptly changing her mind and murdering it, and he knew, then, that this would not end well for the birds. A few had caught his ears as he waded through the felled creatures to his sister, swinging at one with his free arm as its claws tore his flesh. " Minai, this can't be healthy. " Samriel remarked, though his voice was not angry, merely weary, hyped up on adrenalin, somewhat exhilarated. " I never get attacked by birds, so it isn't a Lavellan thing. " he added.
